Forgotten Sky
Here's chapter 4! Thanks again for reviews, favs and follows! I'm glad everyone seems been enjoying this so far :)
Warnings: possible OOC, minor/major OC enemy, angst?
Target 4: Italy
Italy.
Don't ask how he got there, Tsuna would really rather not think about all the, uh... interesting things Reborn had taught him about Airport and Harbor Security. Or the lessons themselves... Tsuna shuddered, then shook his head to clear it of all the unnecessary thoughts.
He looked at his surroundings, the beautiful buildings, the people milling about the busy streets. He listened to a few of the conversations to get a gauge of whether anything weird had happened in the general vicinity of the town. He was suddenly glad that Reborn had forced him to study Italian. Learning the language was certainly coming in handy at the moment.
Tsuna sighed at the memory. Reborn had been so persistent. And when Reborn gets persistent, he gets violent... and trigger-happy. Surprisingly enough, Tsuna had taken to the language instantly. Which was made even weirder by his poor English skills. Reborn just smirked and said it was his mafia blood kicking in. Tsuna had screeched and vehemently denied that it had anything to do with being a mafia boss. Reborn simply kicked him in the head and told him to finish his homework, still smirking.
Tsuna huffed lightly, pushing the memory to the side and focusing on his surrounding again. Well, now as good a time as any. Better get started...
Tsuna pulled out an earpiece and a very sleek looking touch-screen phone... that had been modified... a lot. Reborn was going to kill him for that later. Sighing, Tsuna slipped the earpiece in and turned the phone on, waiting impatiently for it to boot up. Once it was (finally) on, he dialled the only number in the phone.
"Okay, Shoichi, Spanner. Tell me exactly how this thing works." He spoke as soon as the others picked up.
"Right. Well, basically it's kind of like sonar, except it uses flames instead of sound. When used, it will send out a wave of flames and bounce of any strong flame sources nearby. This will give you their exact location, and also give you a good idea of the strength, purity and type of the flame." Shoichi began explaining their modifications, while Spanner was giving Tsuna a visual display to go along with it.
"The strength of the flame will be shown by its size on the screen." Spanner picked up the explanation where Shoichi left off.
"The stronger the flame the bigger it will appear. The purity is measured by the flames colour. The lighter the colour, the purer the flame. The type will be indicated by colour and shapes corresponding to the elements." He finished, still giving Tsuna examples on the screen he was holding.
"Cool..." Tsuna muttered in awe. But quickly shook it off, he should get moving.
"Okay, so how do I use it?" He asked, secretly hoping it was going to be easy.
"All you have to do is open the application, pump some flames into the phone and then press the flashing button." Shoichi answered, sounding extremely proud of his work. Tsuna smiled lightly, then frowned.
"I don't see a flashing button..." Tsuna was concerned to say the least, if there was no button he couldn't get it to work.
"The button won't start flashing until it has enough flames for the sonar to work properly. Remember, it's powered by your flames. It won't work without them." Spanner's voice came through the speaker.
"Ah, I see..." Tsuna flushed a little in embarrassment before pumping his flames into the phone. A little button at the bottom of the screen lit up soon after he started, flashing at him steadily. He smiled happily. Good, it works.
"Alright, let's give it try." He muttered aloud as he pressed the button. The effect was immediate, an almost invisible wall of flames poured out of the phone in waves. He heard small ping sounds coming from his phone, indicating there was a reaction nearby. Tsuna looked at the screen to see several large flames in the direction of the airport. A single Rain, one Sun, and two Mist. A small smile played on Tsuna's lips as he saw the flames, large and pure.
"They're already here, huh? Hmm?" He hummed in confusion as he saw a different symbol on his screen, not too far outside of town.
"Shoichi, Spanner, what does a question mark symbol mean?" he asked as he stared at the strange symbol.
"Oh, that means it's an unknown element. Probably the one you're looking for..." Shoichi trailed off nervously. Tsuna didn't blame him, he had explained the basics of what had happened to the three mechanics. Leaving out the part about him possibly dying, of course. But it was still a lot to take in, especially when you're not affiliated to the mafia (like Shoichi and Spanner currently weren't).
Tsuna idly wondered if the third mechanic had contacted them about the new flame and its potential danger. He was a little worried about Shoichi and Spanner, this could put them in danger after all. Though a small part of him couldn't help but be happy, Shoichi was worried about him.
"Don't worry, Shoichi. I won't be attacking 'him' directly. I'll just be destroying the dimensional rips. I'll be fine." He assured the boy, trying to ease the stomach ache the other boy probably had.
"Yeah... Okay..." He didn't sound convinced. Tsuna sighed before glancing down at his phone again, he should get started.
"Ha ha, cool!" The baseball fanatic exclaimed as Tsuna came out of HDWM. Tsuna sweat-dropped. He had just destroyed a creepy black hole thing and that was what he had to say? As it turns out Yamamoto had spotted him before he left town and followed him. And judging by the look in the swordsman's eyes, he wasn't getting away without an explanation. So he had begrudgingly told him the situation. Yamamoto had then proclaimed them friends (but we're already friends...), and that he was going to help Tsuna.
The way Yamamoto had said it left no room for argument, even as Tsuna stuttered and floundered for a plausible escape. He eventually agreed, albeit reluctantly. He had wanted his friends close so he could keep an eye on them, not drag them into the battle. Although he had to say he was glad that his friend was fighting with him, even if he didn't remember Tsuna. And really, he couldn't say that he hadn't expected it. Well, on the bright side they couldn't destroy anything without flames.
"Ne, Tsuna... how did you use that cool flame thingy...?" Oops...
Similar situations came about with both Ryohei and Hibari. Hibari - like Yamamoto - had recognised and followed him, demanded an explanation on both the dimensional rip and flames, and then disappeared to 'bite the herbivore who started this to death'. He had also stolen Tsuna's phone... one of them anyway. You see Tsuna had foreseen this little problem (even if he hadn't wanted it to happen), and had asked Shoichi and Spanner to make several extra copies for him to distribute if he needed to.
Ryohei had been randomly running around looking for Master Pao Pao. During this running he had, predictably, gotten lost and thus ended up finding Tsuna and seeing him destroy one of the rips. Ryohei had given him the title of 'Extreme Little Brother' and asked him to join the boxing club. Tsuna sweat-dropped. Oh, the irony! Ryohei had then started badgering him about the flames and holes until Tsuna had finally given in, explained the situation, gave him a phone-radar and sent him off.
Luckily Mukuro hadn't found him yet and Tsuna was able to keep his head, for now anyway. What had he been thinking when he called Mukuro a pineapple? Simple, really. Mukuro wasn't going to come easily and was a master manipulator. Tsuna doubted very much that Mukuro would just come to Italy because he asked him to. Therefore he had decided to poke the metaphorical hornet's nest and aggravate Mukuro into action instead. It seemed to be working so far too... Mukuro had found a phone, an explanation on flames and a provocative note (Come find me ~). He had immediately assumed the question mark was his target and set out to destroy. Yes, it seemed to be working quite well... Tsuna damned Reborn and his subtle influence on his personality.
And that brings us back to the situation at hand - Tsuna balancing precariously on a beam as he made his way from the rooftop of one building to another which his phone-radar was highlighting. He was currently in a part of town that was being reconstructed, which meant lots of construction equipment and other random stuff to help him move around freely on the rooftops. If only he wasn't so clumsy...
Tsuna shrieked long and loud as he lost his footing and fell.
The silverette swore under his breath as he ran. These bastards just didn't give up, did they? He swerved around a corner and kept running down the empty street, looking for somewhere to either hide or plant a trap. He could hear his pursuers calling out after him, but he paid it no mind. He took another corner swiftly, but stopped dead in his tracks as he saw what was waiting for him.
He grit his teeth as he saw the gun in the man's hands. Shit, shit, shit, shit! He didn't have enough time to throw his dynamite, he was dead! He flicked some dynamite into his hand, ready to light it and throw it as he was shot. If he was going down, he was sure as hell taking his attacker down with him! He grimaced as he saw the deranged grin on the other man's face. May as well go out with a bang...
"Hiiiiiiiieeee!" Was all he heard before something crashed into him from above and a gunshot sounded. The silver haired teen's body was heavy, he couldn't move, he was dead. It took a few stunned seconds for him to realize, wait no, there's something heavy on top of me... he was still alive? His head snapped up and his green eyes focused on the shocked form of the enemy just feet away from him.
Before the man could recover, the silverette lit his dynamite and threw it as his assailant, knocking him out. The weight on top of him (a person?!) groaned and sat up looking around before down at him. His brunette saviour blinked down at him a few times before screeching and scrambling off with a stuttered apology.
"Don't." He blurted out as he sat up, he regretted it when the brunette violently flinched. He hurried to continue.
"Don't apologize! You saved my life, without any thought for your own! Your amazing!" He looked at his saviour in awe as the boy gaped at him.
"Don't." The silver haired boy blurted, Tsuna flinched back. Of course, he didn't remember Tsuna, so he wouldn't like him. It hurt like hell, but this was just how it was... Or, so he thought. The silverette quickly continued.
"Don't apologize! You saved my life, without any thought for your own! Your amazing!" The boy exclaims, eyes sparkling as he stared at Tsuna in something that looked suspiciously like awe.
Tsuna gaped at the boy in front of him. Silver hair, sparkly green eyes, bombs, misguided notions of saviour... Yep, it was definitely him. Tsuna sweat-dropped, again. Of course the silver haired teen had instantly insisted that he pay Tsuna back somehow. Tsuna had hinted at them becoming friends, much to the other teens horror. He seemed to think he wasn't good enough for his amazing saviour. Tsuna shoved that thought out of his head before the boy could blink. A few choice words and a disapproving stare later and he had an extremely embarrassed and grateful storm on his hands, eyes pleading him to let him help. Tsuna sighed, May as well...
"Well... there is one thing you could help me with..." The silverette beamed. He nodded along as Tsuna explained and immediately exclaimed that he would help, but not before proclaiming himself as Tsuna's right-hand man. Of course... Tsuna thought in fond exasperation as his friend got all fired up about helping his 'Tsuna-sama'. Because he couldn't call Tsuna 'Jyuudaime' and the silver haired teen had quickly figured out he was Japanese. Hence, Tsuna-sama.
"As your right-hand man... and friend... I'll do everything in my power to help you, Tsuna-sama!" He exclaimed proudly, although he whispered the friend part rather shyly.
"Thank you, Gokudera-kun." Tsuna beamed at him, incredibly happy that Gokudera was accepting his friendship. Gokudera beamed back, excited about getting to help. He gave Gokudera a phone-radar and sent him on his way before taking out his own. He faltered a little before using it though. Tsuna stared down at the shaking screen. No, it was his hand that was shaking. Then, little droplets of rain starting hitting the screen. Tsuna looked up. Oh, it wasn't raining...
Tsuna clenched his teeth as the tears streamed down his face. The day had taken a toll on his emotions. Seeing all of them was great, they were his friends after all. But at the same time, they were strangers. And it hurt so badly. Images rushed into his head unbidden. Yamamoto smiling, Gokudera yelling, Ryohei shouting, Hibari glaring, Spanner and Shoichi tinkering. It all flooded Tsuna's mind, before snapping to other images. Yamamoto's fake smile, Gokudera's shyness, Ryohei's confusion, Hibari's indifference, Shoichi and Spanner's ignorance.
It hit Tsuna like a freight train, and he soon found himself on the ground, gasping for breath. He shuddered violently, he felt sick. For a moment Tsuna thought he would retch, he could even feel the bile rising in his throat. But Tsuna forced it back down, he didn't have time for this. It was a bitter thought and it left a bad aftertaste in his mouth. Or maybe it was bile... Tsuna allowed himself no amount of time before forcing himself back on his feet, activating the radar application on his phone at the same moment. He took a deep, shuddering breath before focusing on his task. He could faintly hear Primo whispering words of encouragement. He smiled gratefully before looking at his phone again.
Tsuna frowned down at the screen. It was indicating another Dimensional Rip nearby, except this one had several other flame signatures around it. Large flame signatures. This could be trouble... but he couldn't just leave it alone. This Rip looked bigger than the others, which meant it had probably been around longer. This meant that he couldn't just trust whoever it was around it to destroy the damn thing. Tsuna sighed. He had a horrible feeling about this...
Tsuna grimaced as he watched the people examining the Dimensional Rip in fascination. There were a lot of science-y looking people, which wouldn't be so bad it of weren't for the guards. He'd recognize those dangerous forms anywhere, and right now they were between him and his target. Luckily for him though they were so entranced in the Rip, they hadn't even felt his presence yet. There would be no better opportunity than this, so he quickly slid on his gloves and swallowed his pills.
"Natsu, Cambio Forma..." He whispered as he clenched his fist and gathered his flames. Then, he shot forward like a bullet, streaking through the people without so much as a second glance. He would only get one chance at this. He skidded to a halt in front of the hole and, before anyone had a chance to react, drew his fist back and launched his attack.
"Big Bang Axle!" he yelled as he threw a flame-filled punch towards the Dimensional Rip. The punch landed dead centre and the air shook violently before it shattered like glass, the Rip disappearing. He took the few seconds worth of frozen shock as a chance to run, because god knows they would be on top of him like Hell Hounds soon enough. And sure enough, only seconds later...
"VOOOOIIIII!" the deafening yell pierced through the shock and the Varia gave chase.
AN: Teeheehee, cliffhanger! Again... How was it? Were the interactions with the Guardians okay? How about the sonar thing? It sounded about right, but you never know... Hope you enjoyed!
