Author's Note: Um, so yeah… I've been hiatus. Sorry about that. Life tends to do this thing, where it slams you into a brick wall and doesn't let you past for a while… I got some reviews someone left on a lot of my unfinished fic, and they just reminded me that I have quite a few left unfinished. I decided to pick one, and this is the one I chose. Now, this does not mean I promise to finish it. I'm only saying I promise to try. I have a lot going on with myself, things I'm dealing with, but I needed a break, so I decided to write for one of my fics to let off some stress. Anywho, I hope you all, at least, enjoy this chapter I finished up. It was half way written. I'll try and write more tomorrow. Enjoy. ^_^
Devil in Disguise
Chapter 4
She really had gone crazy. What the hell was wrong with her? She felt as if she was not functioning properly at all, and her mind was a jumble of unknown things. What had she been thinking? Her mind had instantly fogged, and her emotions had been an inappropriate and wild mess in his presence. Somehow, he had thrown her into complete turmoil! How was he able to do this? It was not as if he was super great looking, though maybe a little, and he was intriguing, but that was not the point! And he was short! Well, shorter than most of the boys, and he was not much taller than she was. That had nothing to do with anything! Why was she even thinking about that?
She gave a growl, startling the people around her, but she did not care. She was irritated! It was embarrassing… He probably thought she was crazy. She was crazy. Surely she was with how she had acted. So embarrassing! She had been surprised the boy had been so eager to agree with being friends with her with how strange she had been! No, she was not strange! He was the strange one! Yes, that was right! He was strange, not her!
Closing her eyes for a moment, she sighed out loud with a bit of a groan and pressed a hand to the side of her face. What the hell was wrong with her? What a disaster…
"Nami!"
Opening her eyes again, she saw Vivi smiling and waving at her and beside her was Robin, also smiling at her. Both were standing just outside of Sanji's restaurant. Nami continued towards them without a smile or greeting, and when she reached Vivi, the one closest to her, she rested her forehead on her shoulder.
"Nami, what's wrong?" Vivi asked, instantly wrapping her arms around the other girl and sensing something was wrong.
"What is wrong with me?" Nami whispered and sighed deeply, feeling physically drained.
"Nami?" Robin questioned, just as concerned as Vivi.
Nami sighed and opened her mouth to speak, but she was interrupted. "Ah, mesdemoiselles, you have come!" Sanji called from the open doorway of the restaurant. "Please, come in and I shall escort you to a table."
Nami sighed and picked herself back up to head into the restaurant ahead of them. Sanji watched her walk by him without a greeting and frowned. He then looked to both Robin and Vivi in question, who both looked concerned for their friend.
"Has something happened?" he asked, now also concerned for her.
"We're not sure. She didn't say," Vivi replied as she also headed inside after Nami.
As soon as Sanji directed them to a table, Nami plopped down in a chair, and then her head came down over her arms, which she folded over the table.
"Nami, what's wrong? What happened since we parted?" Vivi asked as she and Robin took a seat, and Sanji stood beside their table in worry over Nami.
"I'm such an idiot," she muttered into her arms, barely intelligible.
"Why?" Robin asked as she rubbed along Nami's back.
"I've been foolish, that's why, and you guys have just put up with my foolishness. I'm being ridiculous," she muttered and then sighed. "I went to deliver what Mr. Crocus wanted me to, and Luffy was there by himself. It just… startled me, and I let myself act like a fool. I, at least, tried to make up for it by asking him all the things I wanted to know, but he wouldn't answer them. Then I also tried to apologize for Furu, and he actually told me not to worry about it! Then, most foolish of all, I asked him to be my friend despite what Furu said!"
"Y-You did?" Vivi asked, astonished, and Robin beside her held the same expression, even Sanji. "What… What did he say?"
Nami finally lifted her head up to look at her friends, seeing the avid interest in their eyes, about as much as she had over the mystery boy, and then she pouted at them. "He said sure," she muttered, but then she could not help, but to laugh at the obvious relief in their reaction to his reply. "You guys! Here I thought I was being foolish, but look at you!"
Vivi flushed bright red, and Robin cleared her throat as she leaned back into her chair, having leaned forward with her interest. "W-Well… he is strange… and a mystery, and you've been obsessing about it these past three months!" Vivi protested, but Nami just kept laughing.
Sanji had to chuckle as well and said, "I must admit, you had us just as interested. He is a strange kid."
"I know!" Nami said as if that were obvious. "I'm telling you! There's something weird about him! Something not quite right, and all of my intuitions and instincts are telling me this! They won't leave me alone! And this is why I have to find out! The only way I can do that, is if I become his friend. I was wondering if I could invite him to your restaurant, Sanji, if he'll come."
"Well, it's not my restaurant," Sanji muttered as he lowered his gaze, but then he sighed.
Nami smiled at him softly and said, "Yes, but it is your family's – Well, your father's, but I just wanted to ask."
Sanji smiled at her as well, but then he nodded and said, "Of course you can, mademoiselle Nami."
"Thank, Sanji!" Nami said and offered him a brighter smile. "As long as Furu and his cronies don't find out about the friendship, we should be fine, right?"
"Of course, mademoiselle," Sanji said, smiling a little broader as he bowed his head a little.
"It's… kind of exciting," Vivi said with a bright smile as well as she scrunched up her shoulders.
"Indeed," Robin said with only a slightly wider smile which closed her eyes, and she even chuckled. "A secret friendship. Perhaps we can learn more about him, if he permits."
"Well, I'm hoping so anyway," Nami said and sighed as she leaned back in her chair. "But… I wonder why he is being so secretive, and so obviously secretive. Almost as if he's just really bad at lying."
"Perhaps he is. Perhaps he's very honest," Robin said and tilted her head as she smiled.
"Or not very bright," Nami said and laughed a bit. "He did seem a little – Well, not too bright. Maybe I really am looking too much into this kid. It really is all ridiculous."
"But entertaining. I'm looking forward to getting to know him too," Vivi said and giggled. "It's giving us something to do, anyway."
"I suppose so," Nami muttered as she rubbed her lips. "Well, I suppose we'll see, right?" she asked and smiled at them.
To Be Continued…
Author's Note: Haha, this amused me. xD I'm excited to see my ideas come to be. I look forward to writing the next chapter tomorrow. ^_^ Until next time!
