Chapter 4:

The Tutor

Ino sat in calculus class with her head down and huffed in frustration. Ino looked at the paper that had a big "F" in bright red etched onto her paper and looked as though she may just go hysterical just by looking at it. "I can't believe this...not another failing grade I can't afford to flunk out of school" Ino harshly whispered to herself.

This was the 2nd test Ino had failed and she knew she couldn't afford to fail another one or she would most definitely fail for the semester. "Alright class dismissed see you on Wednesday" Professor Hatake announced to the class.

Ino gathered her belongings and tried to make a dash for the door only to be called back by professor Hatake. "Hello professor how are you on this fine day" Ino said through clenched teeth.

"I'm fine Ino, but changing the subject isn't going to make me forget about what I needed to talk about with you."

'Damn...oh well at least I tried' Ino thought.

" What's going on, this is the 2nd test you failed this semester and you can't afford to fail the next one." Professor Hatake.

There was a lot in play as to why she was failing. There was other classes, Cheer leading practice of course, and maybe the occasional partying all night long, so she would be too tired to even pick up a book let alone open her eyes long enough to even read the title. Ino didn't really have a definite answer she just shrugged her shoulders and sighed, however Professor Hatake just wasn't taking that answer and shook his head in disappointment. "This is serious for you , if you fail yet another test not only are you going to fail this class for the semester but you'll also be pulled from the cheer leading squad and be banned for a whole year."

Ino's face turned white as a ghost. 'Crap' Ino forgot about the all important rule of keeping the grades up or face the consequence of being pulled from the cheer leading squad and she couldn't have that happening. "Wait I can't be pulled from the team...wait isn't there some type of tutoring I could get to help me out and pass the class."

Professor Hatake pondered the idea over and then had a thought in his mind. "Well I do have one student who passed the class effortlessly, and doesn't mind helping out a student in need of help...if no one else can help he should."

Ino's face beamed in excitement, " Yes! I will take him."

"Good, how about you meet me in my office at around 2 and I'll introduce you to him."

"Ok thanks professor see ya later you are a life saver" Ino yelled out as she dashed out the door.

"So your getting a tutor to help you out with Calculus" Sakura asked Ino while TenTen and Hinata sat at the round table listening on to the conversation.

Ino huffed "Yeah, I mean what choice do I have, I have to pass this class if I don't then it's bye bye to the cheer leading squad."

"Wow I don't know how I would feel to be put in a situation like that I mean...give up cheer leading" Hinata replied.

"Yeah you wouldn't know Ms. Honors Classes" Ino said with her tongue sticking out.

"Hey well sorry that-" Hinata was interrupted by a dark shadow coming over to the table.

She looked up then rolled her eyes slightly at who the shadow belonged to. "Hello Sasuke" Hinata replied to Sasuke.

"Hey Hinata umm you got a minute" Sasuke asked.

"Depends on what it is" She retorted.

Hinata didn't all the way forgive him for what happened at the party a few weeks ago and Hinata felt a tad bit uncomfortable around Sasuke wondering if the bitch girlfriend could possibly be around. Sasuke sighed then finally spoke, " Ok so your smart, hell you're in the same classes as me and you're but a freshmen...well the thing is I need a tutor so I can bring my grades or I'll be kicked off the team for the rest of this season and half of next season...so do you think you'll be able to help me out."

Hinata had a look of uneasiness and uncertainty in his face. Sasuke was a cute guy and all I mean who wouldn't want to be alone tutoring a hot junior athlete, however there was one obstacle that came in two words, Bitch...Girlfriend. Hinata didn't feel like being pestered with her stupidity and thought tutoring her hot popular boyfriend would not be the smart choice. "I don't think that's a smart idea Sasuke" Hinata told him with a small hint of sadness within her voice.

"Why not?" Sasuke asked.

"Well considering that your girlfriend is totally crazy and she might sneak in to my room and try to kill me if she found out...I'd feel like it's in everyone's best interest and in the best interest of my life" Hinata explained, not stuttering once in her sentence.

Ino was happy for at her roommate's progress in confidence, not one stutter in her sentence, maybe a little nervous still, but hey they could work on that. "Forget her she's not my wife...c'mon Hinata this is my first time ever asking anyone for anything literally begging."

Sasuke held Hinata's hands in his and looked intently into her eyes. Hinata tried desperately to look away from his eyes, but his charm won her over. Hinata sighed, "Alright I'll do it but if that girl of yours gives me any type of problems...you are on your own Sasuke."

Sasuke's eyes lighted up then swiftly picked up Hinata then twirled her around in a circle. "Thanks Hinata I so owe you, we should meet up later so we can figure out a schedule...see you around."

Hinata nodded as she watched Sasuke walk away. "So you're going to be tutoring the hot the football player WITH the crazy girlfriend"TenTen asked Hinata.

"Yep...but I've never been one to deny anyone in need no matter how crazy their significant others are" Hinata replied.

"Good luck to you about that...well it's about time for me to meet up with Professor Hatake, and see what kind of tutor he's got set up for me."

Ino waved good bye to her cheer friends then walked away out of the dining hall.

Ino walked down the hallway looking for her calculus professor's office. Walking through the hallways had Ino pondering about who and what her tutor would look like. Considering this was Calculus she was needing help in she automatically assumed that he would look like a mondo nerd. She imagined him wearing glasses, his face all covered in acne wearing vests and khaki pants with loafers. Ino chuckled at the thought and secretly hoped that was exactly what he would looked like. She finally reached the office of Professor Hatake which bore his name in a gold plaque. Ino hadn't really thought about it, but professor Hatake was really young to be a Calculus Teacher, in fact he was actually 27. Apparently from what teachers and older students have told her, professor Hatake came to Konoha University at like 15 years old, graduated at 19 then came back and got his Masters degree at 22 then was offered a job here at the University. It was crazy just crazy how he was not only teaching calculus but college calculus as young as he was, and he was crazy smart. If she was that smart she wouldn't have to worry about getting a tutor and worrying about how she did on her tests, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. Ino knocked twice on the wooden door and after a few seconds heard the Professor's voice calling her in. She walked in and saw Professor Hatake sitting at his desk on his computer. He looked away from the screen to see who came into his office. "Aaah Ino you came please have a seat."

Ino slowly walked up to the brown leather seats located in front of the desk and sat down on one of them. "Your tutor is a tad late so if you don't mind waiting a while till he shows up."

Ino just shrugged her shoulders and whipped out her phone to start texting as Professor Hatake went back to his work on the computer. After a few moments, a few taps were heard on the door. "Come in" the professor replied not taking his eyes away from the computer.

As the door opened up Mr. Hatake looked up and smiled at the visitor, "Oh you finally made it...Ino meet your new tutor."

Ino sighed, "You know had me waiting a long t-"

Ino words were lodged in her throat and all thoughts left her head. She thought he was going to be nerdy, but he was the opposite of that. He was young, he was built,he was cute(not that'd she admit it), he was a football player, he was...Shikamaru? "It's you...Shikamaru you're my tutor."

Ino opened the door to her room and invited the upperclassmen in. "Wow I didn't think that you of all people would be my tutor" Ino said still in shock that he was her tutor.

"Lemme guess...you weren't expecting a football player to be good in calculus did you?" Shikamaru asked.

"In all honestly I didn't, I mean all the football players I knew in high school were pretty dumb, knew how to play...but pretty stupid...you sure proved me wrong."

"Looks can be deceiving" Shikamaru stated with a wink which brought small tint of red to Ino's face.

Staring at Shikamru brought a big question to Ino's mind. "So does your girlfriend know what your doing with your spare time" Ino asked.

Shikamaru scoffed, "Please if she knew that I was tutoring anybody but a football player she'd kill me I would never be out of her sight...we got into it not too long and she's not too keen as to where I am at the moment, but she'll get over it and be her same personality again...so what seems to be the problem when it comes to calculus."

"Everything I just can't seem to get it no matter what I do."

Shikamaru plopped down on her bed and grabbed her textbook, " Well I see we better get started because we have a lot of work to do."
