Chapter 4
Adventures in the Capital
The full moon provided the greatest source of light for the quiet night as the two small figures walked along the brick road. The street lights were in need of repairs, so only a select few were actually working but that seem not to bother the duo whose faces were that of shock.
"Lindsay...did that seriously just happen?", Romeo asks in a quiet voice while not looking over at the girl.
"If by "that" you mean that one of the most wanted mages in the country if not the continent just offer knowledge on a magic you barely learned this morning, then yes, that seriously just happen", Lindsay answered.
A while ago
"I'm sorry; what do you mean I'm dealing with forces beyond my control?", Romeo asks, "I admit I have had a few hiccups in the beginning but I think I'm getting better at this."
To both Romeo and Lindsay complete surprise, Jellal started to laugh; it was a quiet laugh but a laugh nonetheless.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to do that", Jellal explains, "It's that you're not the first person I met who thought they could control a rare and powerful magic; but back to the matter at hand."
Jellal then started walking toward Romeo but not before Lindsay once again holds up her hand with her magic circle now basically radiating with light.
"Now hold on there a moment!", she screams, "No one told you to move!"
Jellal ignores her and continues to move toward Romeo whose arms were still covered in fire and ice. This annoys Lindsay to no end and due to her being hot-headed she shot off a spell at Jellal.
"Ash-Make: Harden Shot!", as a fist-size ball of harden ash shot out of the magic circle and at Jellal at high speed.
Jellal without missing a beat leans to the right to avoid the projectile and continues on his path unflinching.
"Like I said before, I'm not going to hurt you so there's no need for all that", Jellal says as he walks past a shocked Lindsay and stands in front of Romeo who had yet to act at this point.
"Now let's see just how much control you have over the wheel", he says as he touches the wheel symbol in the middle of Romeo's chest.
"CHAOS WHEEL DEACTIVATED."
Romeo feels the magic leave his body and his arms go back to normal as both the fire and the ice disappear.
"H-how you do that?", Romeo asks as he tries to get over the shock.
"It's very simple really, I just injected some of my magic into yours", he explains, "While the tattoo on your chest is your source of power it's also your greatest weakness so you would do best to protect it."
Romeo is speechless as he looks down at the chaos wheel and then back at Jellal, "How do you know all this?"
"I know many things", was his answer before a noise off in the distance causes him to turn in the direction it was coming from, "But unfortunately, I cannot linger here for much longer."
"What are you talking about?", Romeo wonders.
"A fortnight and a half", Jellal replied as he turns to walk away, "I shall return to this exact spot in that time. If you wish to learn more about the Chaos Wheel, I suggest you meet me here at this exact hour on that day."
"Wait, what?", Lindsay blurts out as she recovers from her shock, "You're just going to appear then disappear?"
But Lindsay's question is ignored as a magic circle appears underneath Jellal, "Three weeks", he says before he is enveloped in a bright light and vanishes from sight, leaving both Romeo and Lindsay alone in the moonlit night.
Back to the Present
"So what do we do now?", Lindsay asks as the two of them reach the entrance to the Mine's household.
Romeo throws her a baffled look, "We?"
"Yeah, we!",Lindsay snapped as she put her hands on her hips, " Without my help, you probably end up burning down half the town or something along that line!"
"Now wait just a-", Romeo began before suddenly remembering that he incinerated the forest around the guild hall just this morning, almost burning down the building itself, "That was nothing more than me having trouble getting a hang of my new magic", he tries to tell himself but the look on Lindsay's face said otherwise.
"You almost destroyed something already, didn't you?", she asks.
"Damn that women's intuition!", Romeo curse as he makes his way inside, ignoring the stare Lindsay was shooting at his back. He didn't say anything as he simply collapses on the living room couch and let the events of today swarm in his mind until exhaustion finally took him.
Next Day
"Wake up", Romeo hears as he was shaken, "Romeo, wake up!"
"I really don't want to deal this right now", he thought as he turns his back, hoping Lindsay could take a hint. But the girl's attitude hasn't changed a bit in all the years Romeo has known her, (which would be all of them) and he suddenly felt a hard punch to his kidney.
Now fully awake and in a far worse mood, than he was earlier, he turns around and comes face-to-face with an irritated-looking Lindsay, her golden eyes staring directly into his black ones.
"Can I help you with something?", Romeo hisses through his teeth and is surprised when the girl merely points to the bookshelf in the living room.
"Could you explain to me what exactly that thing is doing?", she asks as Romeo throws a glance is startled to see that Chaos Wheel rummaging through the shelf, more specifically, the top one. It would hover in front of a certain book, then it would start spinning rapidly and Romeo could see a stream of white particles come out of the book and into the Chaos Wheel.
After witnessing this spectacle, Romeo remember an important detail from yesterday and snaps his head down to his chest and his flabbergasted to see that his Chaos Wheel tattoo is gone and in its place was nothing more than the boy's bare chest.
"When did this happen? It burned itself into my chest!", Romeo wondered aloud, catching Lindsay's attention.
"It what?!"
"Well, how else did you think I received a tattoo on my chest when there clearly wasn't one there before?", Romeo asked.
"Well geez, I don't know; maybe a thing call magic, duh!", Lindsay snaps back before once again pointing at the bookshelf, "Now I'll ask again, what is that thing doing?!"
Romeo returns his attention back to the Chaos Wheel as it performs the same procedure on another book on the shelf, "What books are on that particular shelf?"
Lindsay looks over and studies the shelf for a moment, "Magic tomes that my mom has collected. Not the common type, like basic fire and water spells, but not exactly rare, either. She uses part of the money my dad earns from jobs to buy them."
"If I didn't know who worn the pants in the Mine's relationship before, I do now", Romeo thought but kept quiet, "Tomes, huh?"
But before either could ponder on the thought, the Chaos Wheel seem to finish up what it was doing and floated over to Romeo, or more accurately, his chest.
Lindsay watches in surprise as Romeo's face slowly starts to morph from an expression of surprise to one of horror.
"Oh crap, not again", she hears him say right before he grabs her hand and before she could question it, she sees the Chaos Wheel begin to burn itself into his chest, his screams of pain fill the room while she herself adds her own due to the horrible pressure he was now applying to her hand.
Moments Later
"Okay,", Lindsay began as she continued to massage her bruised hand while still glaring at Romeo, who was still recovering from his ordeal, "How about next time you give me a little warning, you idiot?"
"My apologies…", Romeo said, "Next time I'm about to experience impending pain...I'll be sure to let you know not to be so close to me."
"Smartass", Lindsay declares.
"Flat-chested-", Romeo started to say before he was grabbed by the top of his vest and was once again face-to-face with a displease Lindsay who now had her fist cocked back.
"I'm sorry, what was that?", she growled as Romeo threw his hands up in a sign of surrender, but then he notices them along with his chest begin to glow.

"Wait a minute, I didn't choose to do any of this!", Romeo screams as a magic circle appears underneath him and Lindsay and a moment later, the duo vanish from sight.
Seconds Later
In a plain of lush green grass, a magic circle appears and a heartbeat later, two young teenagers appear forth from it.
"Ahhhh!", echoes throughout the area as the two come shooting out of it and sprawling on to the ground with the girl landing on top of the boy.
Both of them open their eyes up at the same time to see the position they were in, with Lindsay's face only mere inches from Romeo's.
….
…..
…
The seconds' tick by as the two of them stared into one another eyes, his black iris matching her golden ones, before finally…
"I swear to the magic gods if that "Love Aura" of yours is still activated and somehow-" Lindsay began.
"I have already used the Chaos Wheel twice since that…. "incident", so I doubt there are lingering effects", Romeo assure her while turning his head away, "Now if you would be so kind, your bony chest is starting to crush-"
Another hard punch to the kidneys later and Lindsay is standing up, surveying the area while Romeo struggles to catch his breath and smooth his aching side.
"Pretty soon, I won't be able to pee right if this keeps up", Romeo grumbles to himself as he notices Lindsay staring there, looking westward with her mouth agape…
"Lindsay, what's wrong?", he asks as he stood up, "Lindsay?"
The girl continues staring straight ahead and Romeo eventually turns his own head in the direction she was staring at and soon finds his own jaw dropping to the floor.
For there in the distant, not more than a couple miles away from them, towering over all other structures was the astonishing Royal Palace of Fiore, the Mercurius, which hail in Crocus….
Which was twelve hours away from Magnolia…..
By train.
...
...
Romeo once again found himself on the ground with Lindsay once again on top of him; only this time she was attempting to choke the ever-living life out of him and was get very close to succeeding. With her eyes filled with a fury that Romeo has never seen before in them and her mouth slightly open, baring her teeth like fangs, she looked every bit the "She-Demon" she has come to be known as by their peers. Unpleasant when calm, a raging demon when anger.
"Toughest kid in Magnolia indeed", Romeo faintly thought as he tries to gain control of the situation and hopefully, his life.
"What did you do?!", her shouts of rage resound throughout the area, "Answer me!"
"Ack!", as Romeo struggles to pry her hands off of him so he could taste fresh air, but her grip was iron-tight, "Can't breathe!"
"If you're talking, you're breathing; so apparently I need to try harder! How the hell are we in Crocus all of a sudden?!", Lindsay tells him before once more Romeo's chest and hands began to glow and for the second time today Romeo hears the ominous voice in his head….

Suddenly Romeo feels Lindsay's hand goes through his neck, leaving a misty trail in their wake. Next, the girl entire body sinks into the ground through Romeo, yet the boy felt no pain. In fact, he felt nothing at all as he got and move through Lindsay as though he was a ghost and she was nothing but a wall.
"Whoa, this is actually pretty cool", the young Conbolt declares before turning around to Lindsay who was in the processing of throwing a strong right hook at his jaw, but her fist goes right through Romeo and he can only stare blankly at her.
"Listen, Lindsay, I'm pretty sure-", he began to say only to be interrupted by Lindsay throwing another punch...and another….and another.
Pretty soon Romeo is merely standing there as the only child of Wakaba Mine unleashes a fury of punches and kicks that pass harmlessly through him. She may as well have been finding the air itself.
After a good minute of this, Lindsay is on her knees, huffing and puffing as Romeo stood there with his arms crossed looking down at her.
"Are you done now?"
"Don't lord over me all high and mighty, your new magic as a limit and eventually it will run out. And when it does", Lindsay threatens as she regains her breath.
"Then you will have no way of getting home...not unless you are willing to walk the hundreds of miles back because I know you ain't got enough money on you to make a call home, send a letter, or even purchase a train ticket", Romeo points out.
"And you do?"
...
"Nope, but I know someone who does in the capital", Romeo groans.
"What? Who are you talking-oh", as the realization dawns on her, "You don't mean?"
"Yes, yes I do", Romeo confirms as he face-palms, "Though she isn't expecting me for at least three more months."
"How do you know she is even in town, especially around this time of year?"
"Her dancing troupe stops in Crocus around this time to perform their shows for about three weeks before resuming their continental tour. We best get going now while it's still morning. She lives on the other side of the capital from where we're at and it's the largest city in Fiore we are talking about here", as he started walking (hovering?) toward the city. After a moment, Lindsay follows behind him, but once his magic went out and his body returns to flesh and blood, she delivered a firm punch to his shoulder and another to his back for good measure.
In the Capital of Crocus
"I can't believe we were in my living room just this morning, barely after the sun came up and now we're walking through the streets of the capital not even two hours later", Lindsay complain as the duo made their way through the bustling streets, "Why did you choose teleportation magic?"
"Okay, first off, I didn't choose anything. The Chaos Wheel chooses magic at random, in case you forgot. If I could choose the magic we already be home by now", Romeo points out.
"But it only chooses when you cast it though", Lindsay glares.
"I don't know why the Chaos Wheel suddenly activated on it own, maybe it has a mind of its own. I sure as heck have seen it do some things that suggest that it has it own free will", Romeo said in hopes that Lindsay would calm down.
As the pair weave their way pass vendors, through marketplaces, and other attractions that dotted Crocus, they come across an immense park, possibly the size of all the parks in Magnolia, where a number of cemented squares laid scattered about it. At a few of the squares, sizable crowds had gathered to watch groups of mages either to face-off against one another, simply show-off their magic to passing patrons, practice their magic in an open arena, or most importantly, impress scouts from the many Fiore magic guilds looking for new blood. The "arenas" were guarded by the most powerful of magic barriers in order to protect the spectators and there were roving groups of city guards as well as Rune Knights all over the place as an extra layer of security.
"Huh, it's the Royal Dueling Grounds", Lindsay says as they stroll on by, "I have never seen them before in real life."
"What are you talking about? ", Romeo asks before realizing a moment later, "Oh, that's right, you always stay home with your mom while we're here."
"Yeah, I didn't feel like babysitting my dad the way you do yours", Lindsay said as she stops and observes the park, "There is an empty arena over on the other side that no one seems to be using, we could probably get some practice in on that Chaos Wheel of yours."
"Um, did you forget why we're going this way?", Romeo asks.
"Look, by now your dad and my parents are probably combing all of Magnolia looking for us and it's not like we're going be back in town anytime soon, even if we get put on a train right this second", Lindsay began to explain with her hands on her hips, "We might as well take a minute or two to enjoy the sights. It's not like we're in any danger."
Romeo continues to gawk at her for a moment before speaking, "Are there problems at home you want to talk about?"
"I think you're the last person who needs to be asking me that, now come on", Lindsay growls as she grabs Romeo by the arm and literally drags him through the crowds and toward the empty arena, the two teenagers barely drawing a second glance from the people they pass. Moments later, Romeo was standing on the stone floor with Lindsay standing a good distance behind him.
"Okay, do something!", she shouts at him.
"Wow, you would make a great coach", Romeo mumbles under his breath, "One time and we keep going!"
"Whatever", was Lindsay's response.
"Making my day harder than it should be", Romeo says as he begins to focus….

Preview of Chapter 5
"What are you doing here?", Enno asks as she looks down at him from her place onstage.
"Wow, those are the first words to come out of your mouth when you haven't seen me in about a year? Thanks, mom, good to see you too", Romeo replies as he crosses his arms.
Enno put her fingers on her head and lets out a sigh while rubbing her temples, "Romeo, you know I didn't mean it like that, I just wasn't expecting you."
"Wouldn't be the first time for you, would it? Not expecting me, that is", Romeo says as Lindsay stand aside silently, waiting for the inevitable argument that was sure to come.
A/N: A fortnight is two weeks, so basically Jellal meant to say three weeks time. More will be coming in due time and if you have ideas for magic combination PM or review it. Next chapter, Romeo, and Lindsay meet up with Enno and the duo head to the Royal Magic Library to find more information on the Chaos Wheel. Also, Romeo has some serious issues with his mother.
