Trying to finish this story as quickly as I can, but I realize I have a lot of characters and years I want to write so lets see where this story is goes.
His voice snapped out her trance. Himiko break off eye contact with him and staring towards the ground before answering back.
"I'm just a guest here." she stated, praying that the boy doesn't see her blushing. What she was said wasn't a lie, but wasn't exactly the truth either. Right now, her mind was a mess as she tries dealing with these new emotion that rose up from her heart. She could feel her heart pounding away like a drum.
"A guest?" he questioned.
"Yes, please excuse me, I have to get going!" she shouted as she ran away from the spot.
"What the hell-?" he thought as he watched her running away. The more she ran, the dense the garden grew as she was surrounded by rows of hedges. As she stopped to catch her breath, she sank down to her knees and rested her head in her arms.
"Why did I run? Maybe I was surprised...I mean he did appear out of nowhere." she thought rationally.
"Maybe that's why my heart is pounding so fast." She found herself thinking about the boy with the beautiful crimson red eyes and started blushing again.
"I am over thinking this too much. I, mean it must be shock or something." Once she got up to her feet, she looked at her surroundings.
"I wonder how deep this garden is." she thought to herself as she pushes forward through the bushes. On the other side of the garden, a young Dino Cavallone was laying down the grass, his hand behind his head as he was watching the clouds roll by. His school dress shirt and pants was messy as his tie hanged loosely around his neck.
"This is so boring!" he complained.
"When is Dad going to finish that meeting?"
"Ah, Dino..." he sat up and turned to a nerdy girl around his age who was sitting next to him. She had thick lens glasses and her dark red hair was twisted into two long braids. She wore an old fashion red dress and brown lace up boots. A worn out book was placed on her lap.
"What is it, Scarlett?" he asked.
"I was just wondering if you heard the rumor at school?" she said in a panicked voice.
"Is it the one about the new transfer student that coming to our class next week?"
"Yeah, that one...I heard that this transfer student is very smart, even skipping a couple of grades."
"Like it matters, the kid doesn't know what he in for. The school is ruthless, I bet he's going drop out like the rest of them"
"Oh...that's too bad..." Then they heard some rustling coming from the bushes.
"What is that?!" Scarlett exclaimed, grabbing onto Dino's arm.
"I'm-m sure-e it-t was-s nothing-g." Dino stuttered. Suddenly, something popped out of the bushes and right in front of them.
"Ahhhh!" they screamed. Coming out of the bushes, Himiko was dusting off her clothes which were covered with leaves and dust.
"This garden is huge; it's kinda fun exploring it." She soon saw Dino and Scarlett, pale faced and their jaws wide open.
"Ah, hello" Himiko said, awkwardly.
*A few moments later*
"So your name is Himiko?" Scarlett asked.
"Yes, sorry for scaring you, I didn't realize that there were other people here." Himiko apologized.
"It's alright." Dino said. After introducing herself, Dino and Scarlett finally relaxed and begin a small chat with Himiko.
"So what are doing here, Himiko?"
"Oh, my grandfather is at a meeting right now. One of his men led me to this garden."
"Grandfather?" Both Scarlett and Dino look at each other and started whispering.
"Who is at the meeting right now?" Dino whispered.
"Let's see our fathers, the boss of the Conti family and the boss of the Rizzo family and also Vongola Ninth." Scarlett whispered back.
"But the bosses from the Conti and Rizzo are too young."
"Is Himiko your niece you don't know about 'cause you do have 5 older brothers, right?"
"No, none of them are even married yet."
"I am only child so Himiko cannot be related to me."
"So that means..."
"Hey, what are you guys whispering about?" Himiko asked. They nearly jumped out of their skin when they found Himiko very close to them.
"Did I say something wrong?" she asked when she noticed that Scarlett and Dino became pale once again.
"It's nothing, Himiko!" Dino stated, still kind of pale. His words didn't relief any of Himiko's worries.
"Maybe I should go play somewhere else. I am sorry for bothering you." Himiko stood up and was about to walk away.
"Wait!" She turned around to Scarlett.
"Ah...please stay..." said Scarlett.
"Huh?"
"It must be...lonely playing by yourself...so please stay. We can still talk."
"Okay..." Himiko said, uncertain. Then she noticed the book on Scarlett's lap.
"What book are you reading?" she asked.
"Oh!" Scarlett held the book up with both hands, showing the cover to Himiko.
"It's Gone with the Wind, by Margaret Mitchell."
"I love that book!" Himiko said excitedly as she sat in between Dino and Scarlett. Scarlett giggled.
"It's also one of my favorites as well." Scarlett added.
"Eh, aren't you a little too young to be reading that kind of book, Himiko?" Dino questioned.
"Not really, I grew up reading classical and fiction books along with fairy tales." she explained. Stunned by the little girl's words, Dino and Scarlett looked at each other, shocked. It's not often that people heard of little kids reading difficult books beyond their age, but they soon broke into a small smile as they returned their attention back to Himiko. Hiding behind a marble pillar was the boy Himiko met before. He grew curious of the little girl and unknowingly follows her to her current spot.
"What am I doing?" he thought to himself. He sighed and went on his way down the archway. The afternoon soon turned to evening as Himiko with Coyote standing behind her, was waving good bye to her new friends.
"Bye, Scarlett! Bye, Dino! Come back for a visit some time!" Himiko shouted.
"Okay!" Dino shouted, out the car's window.
"Bye, Himiko!" Scarlett called out. Himiko watched as both cars pulled away and disappeared down the road.
"It looks like you made some new friends, Miss Himiko." Coyote commented.
"Yeah!" she said with a smile.
"Let's head back inside. Your grandfather wants you to meet someone."
"Who?" she asked as she and Coyote head back to the castle. Inside the castle, Coyote led her down a hallway and stopped at a pair of french doors. He opens the doors and allows her to walk in before him.
"Himiko" her grandfather called, sitting at the end of an elongated dining table with Brow Nie Jr and Schnitten Brabanters.
"Oh, Grandfather." Himiko quickly went to his side; Brow Nie Jr seated Himiko in her chair as Coyote walk over to her grandfather's side.
"Sorry for making you wait." he said as a plate of food was set before her by a servant.
"I had some...business to take care of."
"No problem, the garden was very lovely and made some new friends." she said, putting a cloth napkin on her lap and pick up a knife and fork.
"New friends, you say?"
"Dino of the Chiavarone and Scarlett of the Angelillo" Coyote whispered to him.
"I see...Well, there is another person I would like you to meet." her grandfather commented. Then the dining room's doors slammed open as someone enter the room. Himiko's eyes widen as the boy she met only briefly in the garden, slowly walking in and taking his seat at the table. When he saw Himiko sitting across from him, if he was surprised, he disguised behind an angry scowl.
"What are you doing here?" he questioned.
"Ah-" she said until her grandfather spoke for her.
"Xanxus, this is Himiko, your niece and Himiko, this is Xanxus, my son and your new "uncle" sort of speaks."
"What?!" both Himiko and Xanxus shouted.
"What the hell, old man, you don't say about a niece?!" he shouted.
"If I remember correctly, I believe you meet Himiko's mother, Ariana before, isn't that right, Xanxus?" her grandfather mentioned. Xanxus widen before turning his glare towards Himiko.
"She look nothing like that woman! Why is she even here?!"
"My mother is...gone." Himiko answered in a soft voice. Instead of pity, Xanxus was very indifferent on how she was feeling right now.
"So what, are you an orphan?"
"Xanxus!" Himiko put down the knife and fork that she picked up beforehand as she begins to lose her appetite.
"I'm sorry, but I am not very hungry right now." She put the napkin on the table and quietly exited the dining room by herself. Soon all eyes turned on Xanxus, who went on to eating his steak. Later at night, Himiko found herself once again in the garden, sitting down on a stone bench and looking up at the starry night sky. In her quiet surrounding, she was lost in her thoughts as she lay lie down on the hard surface on bench. The cold surface felt cool against her head and she closed her eyes. For the longest time, she and her mother lived happily together without a care in the world. Now that her mother was gone, she tried her best to put up a brave front for her grandfather. She tried to be happy since she had a new family to look forward to until Xanxus coldly remarked and reminded her of her mother. Tears streaked down her face as she remembers her mother.
"Mommy..." she whispered to herself.
"Himiko..." she quickly sat up and wiped her tears away once she saw her grandfather walking towards her.
"Oh, grandpa, what are you doing here?" she asked as he stopped next to her.
"May I sit down?" he said.
"Yes, please." He sat next to her and turned his attention to his young granddaughter.
"I am sorry about Xanxus...it's difficult for him to warm up to anybody."
"No, no, it's fine. I am just a stranger to him. It's normal for someone to react like that." Then her grandfather put his hand on top of her head.
"If you need to cry, you don't need to hold back for my sake. I know how much you miss your mother. If you keep all of your emotions bottled up, you make yourself suffer even more and know your mother doesn't want that." As her grandfather takes his hand off of her head, Himiko fall silence as she rests her head on his arm, sobbing once again.
"...Mommy" Her grandfather hugged her as she continued crying. Not far from them, on the balcony, Xanxus looked down at them. When he looks at Himiko, a flashback occurs inside his mind.
"You must be Xanxus. I am Ariana, it finally nice to meet you." said a gentle voice.
Xanxus shook the memory out of his head and left his spot.
