The Newest Princess - a Sofia the First fanfic

The Newest Princess: Wormwood's Fate

Note: this chapter is set during Chapter 1 of "The Newest Princess", and is a request by temir who wanted to know what happened to Wormwood. Meanwhile, for markoalap, this chapter also features Dorrie from my stories "Dorrie" and "Enchancia Castle".

Cedric's plan

Cedric, entering his chambers, suddenly struck upon an idea to get Lucinda's amulet. "I'll use good old fashioned emotions against her. I'll make her leave the castle, and hand over the amulet at the same time!"

That afternoon, Lucinda was in her room. Suddenly, a puff of gray smoke appeared before her, and out of it stepped, of all people, King Gideon.

"Well, you must be the 'new' princess?!" Gideon sneered. "Amazing what they'll let become royalty now - a witch! And here I thought trolls were bad!"

Lucinda froze in shock. "What have I done to deserve this?!" Lucinda thought.

"What makes you think you'll ever be accepted as a princess - WITCH?!" Gideon continued. "Why look at you! Your nothing! Your not wanted here! The royal court will never accept a little freak like you!"

"That's not true, Miss!" a female voice shouted. Lucinda turned around to see Violet, one of the castle chamber maids. "That's not true at all! People love you here, Miss Lucinda. They have from the first time you came to visit."

"Silence!" Gideon commanded.

"I don't know who you are?!" Violet shouted at Gideon. "But your not King Gideon! He would have had more respect for a fine young lady like Miss Lucinda!"

At that point, Sofia and Rex burst through the door. Rex started growling, while Sofia pulled out her wand.

"Lets see who you really are!" Sofia shouted as she fired her wand at Gideon.

A burst of thick white light hit Gideon. In a few moments, Gideon was gone. In his place was ... Cedric.

"Mr. Cee-drick?!" Sofia asked puzzled.

"That's Cedric! You stupid, stupid child!" Cedric snapped back.

"But ... why?" Sofia wanted to know.

"Do I actually have to paint a picture for you?!" Cedric asked in a sneering tone. "It should be obvious! I want that amulet! And since your here, I might as well take both amulets and be done with it!".

Cedric raised his wand in a threatening manner. At that point, Violet grabbed Cedric's arm, while Rex grabbed Cedric's pant leg. The three struggled until Cedric managed to throw Violet to the floor and kick Rex away.

Cedric turned back to Sofia and Lucinda, but it was already too late. Sofia and Lucinda already had their wands pointed straight at Cedric. The two girls fired their wands, and Cedric was hit by a double blast of magic energy. The blast threw Cedric against the wall, knocking him out cold in the process.

Sofia, Lucinda, Violet, and Rex all stood there in shock as some castle guards rushed into the room.

In the hallway

As some castle guards rushed into the room, a fourteen-year-old Dorrie stood outside in shock at what had just happened. At that point, Queen Miranda raced up as one of the guards stepped into the hallway.

"What's happening?" Queen Miranda wanted to know.

"Our royal sorcerer just tried to steal Princess Lucinda's amulet" the guard announced. "He was caught red handed".

"Oh my God!" Miranda exclaimed in shock. "Is Lucinda okay?".

"Yes, my Queen" the guard answered.

At that point, the other guards were dragging Cedric out of the room as King Roland raced up. The guards informed Roland of what had just happened.

"Take Cedric to the castle dungeon" Roland ordered. "I'll contact the magical authorities and tell them what has happened".

As Cedric was dragged off, Dorrie went into the room where Lucinda, Sofia, Violet, and Rex were still standing in shock.

"Are you alright, Lucinda?" Dorrie asked, concerned.

"Yes, Dorrie" Lucinda answered.

"Sofia?" Dorrie asked.

"I just can't believe it" Sofia said in shock. "I had no idea that Mr. Cee-drick was like that".

"Let's go to the dining room, malady" Violet gently suggested to Sofia. "We'll get you some tea".

"That sounds like a good idea, Violet" Lucinda said.

Violet, Sofia, Lucinda, and Rex walked out of the room while Roland and Miranda talked to Constable Miles about Cedric. Dorrie used the opportunity to quietly slip away, and soon found herself in an unoccupied room.

Dorrie closed the door to the room, and waved her hand over her chest. Suddenly, an amulet appeared around Dorrie's neck. It was the Amulet of Cosmarune, a gift that the Scarlet Warrior had given Dorrie when Dorrie was a child. Dorrie then held her amulet.

"Scarlet?" Dorrie asked as the amulet started glowing. "Scarlet, it's Dorrie Cooper. Can you hear me?".

"Yes" Scarlet's voice came from the amulet. "Is something wrong?".

"There is something you need to know" Dorrie started. "Cedric has been caught red handed trying to steal Lucinda's Amulet of Tlara. He's on his way to the castle dungeon as we speak".

"Is Lucinda alright?" Scarlet asked.

"Yes" Dorrie answered.

"And Sofia?" Scarlet inquired.

"She's in a state of mild shock right now" Dorrie reported. "She's always thought of Cedric as a friend. It must be hard on her seeing Cedric in a less than shining light".

"I imagine it is" Scarlet sadly agreed. "Thank you for telling me about this. Keep me informed as events unfold".

"Yes, Scarlet" Dorrie acknowledged as her amulet stopped glowing. Dorrie then waved her hand once again over the amulet, and it became invisible.

A little while later

Dorrie walked down a castle hallway, and soon found herself at the stairway which led to Cedric's workshop. Dorrie walked up the stairs, and got the key to the workshop door from the toe of a nearby statue. Dorrie then unlocked the door, and walked into the workshop as Wormwood swooped down on her.

"Do you always have to swoop down on those coming in here?!" Dorrie asked Wormwood, annoyed.

"You and I both know that you're only allowed in here when Cedric is here" Wormwood informed Dorrie.

"Well, I have some bad news" Dorrie announced.

"And what bad news would that be?" Wormwood scoffed.

"Cedric was caught red handed trying to steal Lucinda's amulet" Dorrie answered.

"What?!" Wormwood exclaimed in shock.

"He's in the castle dungeon as we speak" Dorrie started. "You might want to get out of here while the going is good".

"And why would I want to do that?" Wormwood asked.

"Think about it" Dorrie said. "Cedric has been caught red handed trying to steal a possession from a member of the royal family. That means Cedric is automatically fired as royal sorcerer. And since he's no longer the royal sorcerer, there is no more need for you".

"I'll take my chances here, thank you very much" Wormwood responded.

"Well, if you want to be locked up in a cage, behind bars in the royal zoo, then so be it" Dorrie pointed out".

"No!" Wormwood exclaimed in fear.

"I on the other hand am offering you your freedom" Dorrie offered.

"I could ask why?" Wormwood inquired.

"The crime is Cedric's, not yours" Dorrie answered. "Just because Cedric is going down doesn't mean you have to go down with him. But, if you're going, you've better go now. It won't be long before the castle staff come up here looking to take care of things, and I'm sure you'll be their first order of business".

"I see your point" Wormwood admitted as he flew to an open window. As he was about to fly away, he looked back at Dorrie. "Goodbye, witch. And thank you". Wormwood then flew out the window and away from the castle.

As Dorrie turned around to leave, she found herself face to face with Sofia who had witnessed the entire thing.

"Sofia?!" Dorrie exclaimed, surprised to see Sofia there.

Before Dorrie could react, Sofia hugged Dorrie.

"Thank you, Dorrie" Sofia smiled with tears of joy coming down her face.

"Then ... you're not angry?" Dorrie asked, taken off guard.

"How could I be angry with you for something I was going to do myself?" Sofia answered with a smile. "We'll keep this between us. As far as anybody else is concerned, Wormwood must have caught wind of what was going on, and high tailed it".

As Sofia and Dorrie walked to the door, Sofia stopped and looked out the window for a moment.

"Goodbye, Wormwood" Sofia thought to herself. "Find yourself a new life".

A month later

A month had passed. Cedric had been tried by a court of his peers, found guilty of abusing his powers, and sentenced to Azkaban. With Cedric gone, King Roland appointed Sofia and Lucinda to be the official royal sorceresses of Enchancia, a job the two excelled at.

As for Wormwood, he managed to fly to a far off kingdom, and soon found himself at a village of witches and warlocks. One day, looking for food, he found himself at the open window of a home owned by a witch in her fifties.

As the witch was working on a potion, she looked up to see Wormwood at the window.

"Come in, my friend" the witch invited. "You look tired and hungry".

Wormwood flew into the room where the witch was at, and landed on a table. The witch then conjured up a bowl of bird seed, and a bowl of water. Wormwood then started eating the bird seed, and drinking the water.

"That tastes good, doesn't it?" the witch smiled at Wormwood.

Wormwood nodded his head yes. It had been a while since he had eaten a good meal, and it felt good to have a full tummy again.

"You're alone in the world, aren't you?" the witch asked Wormwood.

Wormwood sadly nodded his head yes.

"It's been a while since I've had an animal companion" the witch pointed out. "If you like, you could stay here with me. I promise you that I would be very kind to you. I would give you all the love and respect you could ever want".

Wormwood flew onto the shoulder of the witch.

"We're going to get along famously" the witch smiled at Wormwood as she gently petted him.

Wormwood spent the remainder of his years with the witch. True to her word, the witch was very kind to Wormwood. His life was good.
