Wow. I may have been longer gone than I had anticipated, but please keep in mind that I don't entirely know where to go with this story and welcome suggestions. Also, the song is Name by the Goo Goo Dolls...Thank you.
The midnight hour is not one that is typically beautiful and loved, rather, a reminder of the thoughts which plagued the minds of those who suffer. And a pawn is moved forward one space.
Clouds roll over in the sky, weaving back and forth as wisps. They gently caress the moon, only just for a moment before returning to the wide open space ...alone. A man stares aimlessly at the ceiling. Not for any reason in particular but only as a resort to think. That's what black spaces do; they give a place to fill with shapes, thoughts, words. And yet as of this moment, words, shapes, thoughts, they all failed him. His true nature had seeped through, a brush of insanity mixed with his craving for control had taken over once again. It had been going on for weeks, the rush of rage, the pass of conscience and his trigger. The boy who walked without fail on nights that were clouded. That boy, just below him in age should've been looking up to him, as he had once before as would once again.
"Percy." The name was a sweet on his lips burning his desire. HNis blue eyes shift from the ceiling to the window. Arms beneath his head, body reclined on his bed; he relaxed.
That kid would never say a word. He would never leave and would never refuse. But his memory was a problem. Whatever had caused this lapse of remembrance was infuriating. But he couldn't deny it was an unmistakable act of amnesia. There had been some definite signs of it ... Just in the way Percy had looked at him, and how he was never actually addressed until the end. How could such a thing happen? It made him so furious, he could just,
CrUnCh,
Break. His. Face.
The alarm and side table relocated... A sizable crater was etched into its wooden surface and bits of plastic and metal were scattered about the crime scene. How Luke didn't care in the slightest about a dent in mahogany Was beyond comprehension.. But then again, his posture was no longer relaxed, no longer calm... no longer sane.
His teeth clenched tight, his eyes strewn shut, and his fingers curled and pressed together. Luke sprung from his bed and surveyed his room with red eyes. Eyes of strain and lack of sleep, insomnia and overwork, his new eyes to see through. And these eyes saw everything within this 'hole in the wall apartment' as items to be eradicated. His body whipped to and fro, ripping paintings from walls, tearing down drapes, pushing all items littering his table to be thrown across the room. He was a whirlwind of livid emotion, destroying anything and everything in his path.
The pain was still there, throbbing with each pulse of blood to his face. It pounded with such a force that his vision slipped in and out of commission. A slow soft voice sang through his agonizing thoughts. It wasn't one he could always place was unsure of what it meant to him? Sure enough he could recognize the song from his mothers collection of music but could not recall the name. What confused him was the voice, someone was singing it softly in the halls.
Percy did not know if he could contain his curiosity ...especially as he now approached his door. The singing grew more intense as he got closer, the muffled lyrics gradually getting clearer. His hand was on the knob. His ear was pressed against the wooden frame of the door.
And even though the moment passed me by
I still can't turn away
Cuz all the dreams you never thought you'd lose
Got tossed along the way
And letters that you never meant to send
Got lost or thrown away
Percy's eyes widen at the voice. A low soft melodious voice that belongs to someone most likely younger than he is. Does he know this voice? No. This is one he doesn't know and believes he has never once heard before.
And now we're grown up orphans
And never knew their names
We don't belong to no one
That's a shame
His body is currently flush against the door. That voice keeps getting close, oh so close! Percy can hardly contain his interest and complete curiosity.
But you could hide beside me
Maybe for a while
And I won't tell no one your name
And I won't tell 'em your name
And scars are souvenirs you never lose
The past is never far
Did you lose yourself somewhere out there?
Did you get to be a star?
And don't it make you sad to know that life
Is more than who we are
His fingers were curled so tight into the knob, and his body couldn't get any closer. Maybe if h-
The door swung open as Percy tripped forward and into the hall. He could hear a gasp from above where he had fallen. Quickly pulling his sprawled limps to his body, Percy dared a glance upward. What he saw was not what he expected.
A mostly young figure with caramel skin, the darkest of hair and eyes that rivaled the depths of the deepest abyss. There was a tint of pink lining his cheeks and the boys eyes were as wide as they could go. Percy was at a loss for words as he took it all in but so was the boy. A good few moments of his life...gone...as his own eyes raked the body of this kid while the the kid did the same.
Quietly standing, Percy shook his head.
"Hey kid, sorry about that..."
"Kid? Whatever, it's fine. But why did you..."
"Um, Right, I was... I was just... Listening..."
"Oh." The boy glanced around with a seemingly nervous expression. Everything was so awkward now. The silence hung heavily in the air.
"Yeah, Well..."
"I'm Nico."
"Percy."
"Where are you off to Nico? Not that i need to know or anything, just.."
"Just the office."
"The office..."
"Yeah, I need to change my room"
" Wait... You go here?". Percy's eyes nearly burst from their sockets,;there was no way a child could get into this school. He himself was only a freshman.
"I do!". Nico stared defiantly at Percy, with his hands on his hips. A very...interesting pose for him.
"Right and you want to change rooms because...?"
"That's none of your business," Nico snapped.
"My bad." Percy brought up his hands in surrender, pity he didn't have a white flag to wave. Nico was glaring at him, radiating a sort of death threat if Percy continued.
"Look, maybe it's best that you stay out of others business, I don't even know you that well."
Percy sighed. "Fine, but I promise, I was just curious."
Nico stayed silent, diverting his gaze to the hallway itself. It was as far as the eye could see until it became a hole of darkness.
"Well you might as well be on your way. Feel free to drop by anytime. ""You don't have a roommate?"
"...I did for awhile, but it doesn't matter. He transferred out."
The kid had a genuine look of empathy as his head slowly nodded."I can understand that," he said, bring his stare to Percy."
"Thanks, and go on, you had some place to be?"
"Oh! Yeah I do. . . I guess I'll see you around?"
"You just might, but be careful around these hallways. You never know what hides in the darkness."
"I am well versed with the shadows, I'll be fine.". With a last glance at Percy, Nico began the long trek to the office.
"Weird kid," Percy whispered to himself, shaking his head as he entered his room. Good thing he didn't ask about his own bruises, stage makeup can only cover up so much.
Seeing as how he only had the little bit of it, Percy figured he'd have to call his friend for some more.
As ironic as it seemed to be the low chime of bells that was his ringtone rang out. It startled Percy in the slightest as the sound pierced the rooms calm.
Caring little for the soreness and sharp pangs of pain, he moved past his rooms furniture to his one and only window. Every step he took squeaked the wooden floorboards and was cool to his bare feet. But his attention was caught by the early rise of the sun signaling his severe loss of time.
The moon was no longer visible and a mural of oranges and reds began to color the horizon. The colors painted his plain white phone that still insisted on ringing. The sweet little tune pushed him to snatch up the phone. Speak of the devil, by way of the caller ID. But did he want to face his problems now or later? After a moments hesitation he cautiously answered, placing the cell in the general vicinity of his good side.
"Hey."
"Percy?"
