chapter 4
They got to rubys house and ruby brought her inside, they saw scarlet and rubys dad jasper sitting on the couch. Scarlet jumped up "sapphire what happened? You're covered in marks, are you ok?" ruby gripped her hand and answered for her "her mom was abusing her, i don't know exactly what happened when she was first getting hit because i got knocked out when dimond threw a bottle at me." scarlet stepped forward seeing the marks all across her arms and legs. "Stay here for a while, you said your dad is on a business trip?" sapphire nodded "he'll be gone for a few more months" scarlet nodded "than you're staying here until he gets back, and i think ruby'll agree with me that you shouldn't be back home until you have someone other than just your mother." ruby nodded "yeah, i do agree. I don't feel comfortable with you going back only to get beaten again." sapphire nodded "can we just go up to your room, i need a nap or something" ruby nodded leading her upstairs with her.
They laid in bed ruby sighed while holding sapphire in her arms, she looked down at the smaller girl looking across her legs that where starting to bruise. She didn't stop a tear that was slowly rolling down her cheek softly whispering "i'm sorry i couldn't be there for you sapph" she felt the girl in her arms shift and start to wake up. Sapphire tiredly looked up at ruby "where you crying?" ruby nodded slightly "yeah, I just feel guilty. You have bruises all over me because i couldn't block a fucking bottle." sapphires confused look softened when she said that "ruby it's not your fault. My mom threw a bottle at you and you weren't expected to block it, none of these bruises are your fault she's been like this for years. I've gotten to really dark places because of it." ruby looked at her confused before understanding what she meant, she ran her hand down her arm intertwining their fingers and pulling it up looking across her wrist at the scars going down it. She lifted her hand up to her mouth and gave it a soft kiss, "you know i'll always be there right?" sapphire nodded. Ruby looked to the side "good, just remember that. I'll always be there if your in a dark place again so you don't have to turn to self harm again" sapphire nodded leaning up and giving ruby a soft kiss the act still new to both of them. Ruby smirked pulling her closer, sapphire straddling her legs. Ruby leaned forward kissing her again quickly stopping and getting sapphire off of her bringing her knees up to her chest. Sapphire asked "what happened was i too much or?" ruby thought quickly but couldn't come up with a lie and giving up "it's not you, you wouldn't understand it" sapphire looked at her weirdly "ruby what are you talking about?" ruby sighed "look, i'm transgender" sapphire nodded "that's ok, i'm just a little shocked you don't look anything like a guy" ruby nodded "I know, I've been on hormones for two years now." sapphire nodded "ruby i don't care what you used to be, you're still my girlfriend and that won't change… i mean unless we… ya know" ruby nodded letting her knees go and leaning forward "don't worry baby that won't happen right now" sapphire smiled softly when ruby pulled her closer into her arms.
They woke up the next morning, ruby sat up with a groan rubbing her back. When they decided to go to bed sapphire said she would sleep on the floor but ruby wouldn't allow it, she slept of the floor so sapphire wouldn't feel uncomfortable but she regretted it now. She stood up stretching her back, she looked down seeing sapphire looking u at her as she said "are you ok, what happened?" ruby sighed "it's my back, sleeping on the floor fucked it up." sapphire nodded scooting over and grabbing her hand pulling her down so she was in the bed. Ruby sighed and intertwined their fingers, she kissed her four head "i don't want to go to school, i'm going to ask my mom if she can call in for us" sapphire nodded chuckling when ruby grunted straddling her hips and leaning down kissing her she broke the kiss and looked down when sapphire said "we should go talk to your mom before she comes up to wake us up and sees this" ruby chuckled before mumbling "you're adorable" and kissing her once more and getting off of her deciding she was right.
