How are we all? I'm good haha. sorta.. today my teacher at school threatened me into playing sport instead of working on my story, stupid -.- anyway. Thanks to all who reviewed and even those who are reading the story :) Speaking of the story, lets get to it!
Disclaimer; ...
I strode across his office, ignoring the glare I earned from him and sat down in the chair which sat in front of his desk. I crossed my legs and placed my hands down on my lap, this new found courage making me inwardly smirk. I decided to look around the dim room and found a cot in the corner along with some toys, I smiled and turned my attention back to Naru.
"So," I began, thinking of the right words to say. "You have a son?" I looked up at him and matched his glare with my own, I had no intention of backing down any time soon.
"I thought that was obvious? Really Mai. 4 years really did make your brain diminish" He stated, making me sound more stupid.
My anger started to boil at the insult but I took a deep breath to calm myself before looking at him again. "Why did he call me 'Mummy'?"
Naru just shrugged his shoulders before picking up his black book and began reading, a picture fell out and I scooped it off his desk before he had a chance to notice. "Give that back Mai."
"Not a chance." I was being stubborn, I know. But I wasn't giving up without a fight. Not to mention; he insulted me. Naru looked up from his book and glared at me.
"I said give it back, Mai."
"And I said no. 4 years later and you still ignore what I say" I poked my tongue out at him, daring to fight back. He reached his hand out to snatch the photo back but I pulled it closer to me before he could grasp it. I shot up from my chair and bolted out of his office and into Lins. I don't know why I went in there, but it was probably the safest place.
I locked the door and slid down to the ground, my heart beating loudly as though I just committed a crime, well with Naru, it was a crime. I shook my head and turned the light on to get a better look at what I was holding, I felt the door behind me shake before I heard the pounding. "OPEN THE DOOR MAI!"
I giggled to myself and shook my head. "SORRY! I'M BUSY!" I called back to him, I heard a growl and laughed. I looked down at the photo and my laughing stopped, It was a photo of me...holding a baby with children surrounding me. I gasped and turned the photo around to see what was written on the back, it read "Taniyama Mai, 6th of June. Hatiruma Orphanage."
I remembered this case, the Orphanage was haunted by a boy who used to play a game called Hide and seek. But every time a child would hide, he'd catch them and kill them. I shuddered at the memory and turned the photo back around, I don't remember someone taking a photo...
I heard the door behind me bang again but this time I opened it and glared at Naru, shaking the photo around in his face. "Why do you have a photo of me!"
He didn't answer, he just snatched the photo back from me and returned to his office, locking the door this time. I stared at the place where he was standing just a second ago before growling. A few minutes later I looked up again to find Lin coming towards me, I smiled at him. "Lin...Can I talk to you?"
Lin raised an eyebrow but motioned for me to come into his office, I followed behind him and sat down on the couch which was in there, He sat down on his desk chair before turning to face me. "What is it Mai?" He asked, voice still emotionless.
I looked to the door and back at Lin "Is Gene, Naru's real son?" My voice held curiosity and confusion.
He looked at me and then down at the floor for a second, probably thinking about his answer. "No...Gene isn't his real son. Remember that case at the orphanage? The baby was Gene, but now he's just more grown up."
I just tilted my head, more confused now. He sighed and looked at me dead in the eye. "A year after Naru and myself left to go back to England, Naru got a call from the orphanage saying that the child, who was now only a year old, has started to say he sees spirits outside. Being only a toddler, he didn't actually say it...he drew it." Lin took a deep breath and looked at my form which was now perched on the edge of the couch, thoroughly interested.
"We decided to check it out, so we got the earliest flight back to Japan and drove up to the Orphanage. The owner walked out with a toddler in her arms and showed him to us, Naru was surprised but he didn't show it, obviously, to find that the child looked an awful lot like himself when he was younger. He requested that he speak with the child and he did, Later he showed me the papers in which the child drew on and the small scribbled words below the picture said 'He looks like you but happy. His name Eugene too. The drawing was of a man in black with blue eyes, however he had a smile drawn on his face"
My mouth dropped to the floor as Lin stopped talking to catch his breath, I was about to interrupt but he started talking again. "Naru immediately asked the owner if he could adopt the child and the owner was more then happy to give him up, and that's how Gene became Naru's son. The reason he called you his mother..." I raised my eye brow at him. "Yes I heard that, The reason he called you his mother might be from his PK being able to remember your face from when he was only an infant."
I just looked at Lin with a shocked face. "Wait, wait, wait, wait!" I put my hands up in a stopping motion and looked at him "You mean to tell me that that little boy is a reincarnation of Gene?" The onmyouji looked and me and nodded, I let out a big sigh. "Wow...you learn something new everyday, huh?" I let out a shaky laugh and scratched the back of my head.
"Well, I best be going home." I stood up and walked to the door but stopped when my hand was on the handle "I'm going to be here tomorrow, but it's not for Naru. I have a gut feeling that I need to protect Gene and this case is giving me a bad feeling."
With that, I opened the door and walked out, ruffling the little boys hair as I walked past him. I left SPR with more on my mind then I had hoped, it didn't take long for me to get home and crash on my bed. Soon as my head hit the pillows, I was fast asleep, One thought lingered in my mind before the dreams drowned it out. Tomorrow is going to be a looong day...
I woke up the next day feeling well rested and happy until I realized that I had to go into SPR to hear about the case, for some reason my gut feeling told me that I already knew most of it. I sighed and got out of bed, passing the clock in my way to the bathroom. I looked at the time and then continued my walking. 'Its only 10am..' Realization struck me hard as I whipped my head around and looked at the clock again. "10am! Oh no! I'm already late!" I squealed and rushed into the bathroom to have a quick shower before grabbing my dream journal and rushing out the door, not bothering with breakfast.
I ran the whole way to the office and gripped the sides of the door until I caught my breath. "Oh god! Why does it have to be so far away!" I mumbled out of breath. It took a few minutes until my breathing was at a normal pace before I opened the door and entered.
"You're late." I heard Naru say from the lounge, I scowled "Mai, Tea."
My body started heading to the kitchen out of habit before I stopped myself, I whipped my head around and glared at the narcissistic boy. "Wait! I don't work for you any more. Get your own damn tea!"
I heard a chuckle and looked around the room until I found Bou-San, I brightened straight away and grinned at him. "BOU-SAN!" I said, smiling. He got up and walked over to me, rustling my hair.
"Hey Mai."
I smiled widely and found myself in the arms of Ayako, I hugged her back and smiled warmly at her. John came over and gave me a light hug and then last was Yasu, he grabbed my hand and kissed it, causing me to blush brightly. I just nodded my head and Masako and Lin sending them both a smile. I completely ignored Naru who was in his chair fuming over not getting his precious tea. I giggled and sat down next to John. "Well? What's this all about?"
Naru glared at me before turning his eyes back to the folder in his hand. "If you would all pick up the folders placed in front of you, we can begin."
Everyone in then room picked up their folders and flipped them open, I felt bile rise in my throat at the image of a man with a knife in his neck and tears start to form in my eyes. I kept flipping through the file as Naru started talking.
"We are going to be investigating an old Victorian Mansion in the city of Kyoto. It is said that every man of the family die from getting stabbed in the neck and loosing blood. In the folder before you is a picture of the most recent victim, his name was Usai Kaname, he was the father of Usai Yuuki and Usai Zero."
My head snapped up to the sound of Zero's name. I remember that his last name was Usai and he said he was moving sometime before we graduated from collage. The tears in my eyes started to fall as I thought about how they would cope knowing their father was murdered. Ayako came and sat next to me, wrapping her arms around my shoulders. I buried my head in her chest and started sobbing. "A-Ayako! Kaname w-was Zeros fat-her!" I started sobbing even harder as I recalled every memory I ever spent with Kaname, he was such a kind man, he didn't deserve to die!
An hour later and my crying ceased, I was exhausted and I felt my eyes getting heavy and for once I didn't stop them from closing, my world went black and when I opened my eyes, I was standing in the middle of a ball room, my stomach protruding out in front of me. I raised my eyebrow when my hand lifted on its own accord and started rubbing my belly. It took me a moment to understand that I wasn't really me...I was in Yumato's body...This is going to be interesting.
