The Looking Glass
-Chapter 4-
How did it turn out like this?
Oh yes, she remembered how it went. Delsin Rowe, the infamous conduit known as the Banner-Man, which she needed to call him one of these times, is here in her apartment, and spending a night. Unfortunately for her, her guardian, or care-taker, which ever you prefer, is out for the night, and won't be back until tomorrow. A plus one for Delsin.
Let's not forget that she also met his older brother, Reggie, who isn't a Conduit, but a Sheriff of the Salmon County. A complete opposite of the rebel guy who is constantly bothering her considering they just met for crying out loud. Reggie came to check on his brother, and see if she was real. Leah thinks he wanted to see if Delsin did anything to her which he didn't. Reggie seem nice to her, reminds her of Caleb at times. She like him a lot better than Delsin, who can't take no for a no.
However, Reggie was going to leave, until he decided to stay. Of course, he asked her. Leah couldn't say no to him. For one, he is a nice guy. Two, he wants to watch Delsin. Three, she couldn't say no. She was nervous, and kind of scared to say it. Also she couldn't say no to Delsin so how can she say no to Reggie. She is such a pushover, but she could see Reggie's reason why to stay.
It was to make sure Delsin wouldn't fool around. At least with him, he can make Delsin listen.
Leah sigh as she sat at the table. 'It's only for tonight... I can do this... I should be a little happy, since I got company, but a very unusual company. Since Reggie is here, Delsin has to listen to him... Also Reggie is the nicer brother.' Leah thought, feeling slightly better on her decision.
Reggie will keep Delsin in check. She just hopes so.
Leah turn her head over to the bickering brothers. She told them that no one is allowed to sleep in Caleb's room, or her room. The reason is that Caleb's room is off limits, because it would be rude of her to let someone sleep in there without his permission. Plus his room is a complete mess, and has hardly room due to all his books, and leftover college papers.
Delsin, of course, complained about how Caleb isn't here, and it's not fair. She didn't care. She just want no one in there. After all that, it led to this.
"Delsin, for the last time-"
"I spent few weeks sleeping in alleyways, roofs, hell! Even on billboards! The couch is mine, Reg. If you want it, you're going to have fight for it."
Reggie sigh, "Fine. It's yours. I'll take the recliner."
"Thank you. You're such a sweet big brother."
"No, no, no, a sweet brother would force his little brother to leave the apartment of a supposed friend he just barely met."
"My supposed friend is letting us stay for the night, by the way you're welcome."
Leah just shook her head. What has she gotten herself into? She gets up, and walks down the hallway to her room. Not writing anything in her notebook she left on the table. It was slightly frustrating, but it's only for tonight she tells herself.
She heard Delsin say goodnight behind her, but ignored it. That guy is sure knows how to irritate her even though she is known to not get annoyed, but with Delsin it's hard not to. Though she got admits he is interesting to have around.
Leah entered her room, and change into her pajamas which is just a plain grey oversize shirt, used to belong to Caleb, and black basket ball shorts. She grab her phone, open it to look at the text Caleb sent her earlier. It was odd for him to do this. Does he really trust her that much? She can't help, but feel suspicious. It's a little sudden of him. Also considering she met a Conduit, and somehow befriend him. It might somehow connect to it, but she doubts it.
'Perhaps I'm being too paranoid... though Caleb always say paranoia keeps one alive.' Leah brush the thought away. She gets under her covers on her bed, and turnoff the lamp next to it. She better get some sleep, before Delsin comes in here pestering her with his questions. Not that she minds, despite what she says about him.
A small smile appear on her face at the thought. In a way Delsin reminds her of Zoey. He's getting to her. Maybe to a point where she could think of him as a friend. Delsin is a good person, anyone can see that. He's nice, (most of the time since he is an... ass as she quote.)charming, and don't take stuff seriously, but actually does when you think he doesn't.
She close her eyes as she drifts off to sleep.
Leah continue to run around in the backyard of a small secluded house out in a woods. It was normal for a young child her age to do that, especially in her dream. She's appear to be about 9 years old, or maybe a little younger. The young girl stop in her track as she absorb all around in her surroundings. She knows she's never been here. However, it feels familiar to her. Like she's been here before so many times.
Is this really a dream?
Or maybe a memory...
"Leah!"
She turn around to see a woman with light brown hair, and dark brown eyes, standing behind the house facing her. Her hairstyle is similar to hers, but it was more curly, and wavy. She looks like she's about in her mid twenties, or maybe a little early. She's wearing a long navy blue sleeve shirt with blue jeans. She looks the type of woman to do labor, and not focus on her feminine habits and men. The woman look similar, and felt familiar to Leah.
"...Mom?"
The woman smile, and it made Leah smile back at her. Most of all feel happy emotion to see such a thing on person. Surprisingly it didn't feel foreign, but... natural. All the more reason to prove that this is her mother. Leah's eyes lower slightly at the thought of it. She never really knew what her parents, or even her mom look like. For her to see her in her dream, is like her starting over again. Being reborn, seeing your mother for the first time.
Her mother chuckled. "You look lost kiddo. Don't tell me you forgot your sweet ol' mom."
"I..."
"Anyways it's time to eat, Leah. C'mon, don't want to keep your father waiting. You know how impatient he gets if it's spaghetti night." Her mother said as she heads back inside before Leah could say anything to her.
It cause the young girl to look around in her surroundings. Trees, nothing but trees all around. There are no sign of neighbors, or anybody around them. It was if they're in a remote place out in the woods. It may her question about her past more. She never thought she would lived in a place like this. 'Unless we live in the mountains away from town, or just away from town... but... why am I remembering now?'
"Are my memories coming back?" Leah said to herself. It wasn't a surprise to hear her own voice. She could talk, but with only Caleb around since he was the most closest person to her. She's slowly trying with Zoey, and is almost there, but she thinks she might freak her out if she talk. It's the thought of it. She thinks it would be best if she doesn't, until she feels Zoey is ready for it.
Leah was about to walk towards the house, until a dark chill travel down her spine. The kind you get when you felt a slight cold breeze hitting your skin. In her case, it felt like someone is watching her. The young girl turn around to see her surroundings morph into a darker version of it. The once lively trees, withering away. The grass no longer green, but ash covering the top of it like snow.
In the center was a girl, that look about the age of 14 or maybe a year older than that. She has black hair, or maybe dark brown, but it looks black to Leah. Her hair is wild, and tangy everywhere. Show no signs of any brush or cleanliness to it. Her hairs ends below her waist. Leah couldn't see her eyes, her bangs were covering them as if to shield themselves from the world. The girl is wearing a white straight jacket, straps hanging down both sides of her sleeves on each arms, along with white pants that look saggy on her. She's wearing no shoes. What pop her out the most is the red stains on different spots on her clothes. a few on the edge of her pants, and sleeves. Most of it is on the center of her shirt, with a few of it on her face.
Leah's grey-blue eyes widen at it, knowing full well what those red stains are. 'Blood... whose?!... Who is she?'
The girl must have read her thought, because a large grin spread out across her face. It gave Leah goosebumps. It didn't help that there was blood on her face to make her smile more unpleasant. The girl brought her hand towards her face. Her index finger on her right hand stood up straight in front of her mouth as if giving a sign of shoosh to Leah.
That was the last thing she saw before her world went to complete darkness.
Leah bolted up from her sleep. Her eyes wide open as heavy breathing left her face. Even in the the dark of the night, she could see the person standing next to her bed was none other than Delsin. "Whoa, Leah! Take a deep breath there! It's just me." said Delsin.
It made her rolled her eyes. She turn on the lamp next to her bed to give some lighting in the room. She grab a small notebook next to the lamp along with a pen, and wrote on a blank page. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN HERE?!" She wrote it all in big letters.
"I can't sleep."
"Okay... Well try, because I'm going back to sleep."
"Nonono, I can't sleep! Reggie is snoring like bonkers out there. Listen!" Delsin ran over to the door, and open it. It was silent for a few second, until she heard the snores coming from down the hall. He snores just as bad as Caleb does. Leah looks at Delsin who is giving him pleading eyes.
She shook her head soon after she finally got what he is trying to ask her. "No! You are not sleeping in Caleb's room! That is off limits!" She wrote to him.
"Snowflake, he's not even here! Look, I'm just going to sleep in there for one night. One night! I'll wont make a mess, I swear."
"For the last time no, Delsin. His room is off limits, no matter what." She held her notebook up to him to show him she was dead serious. His puppy dog face won't convince her on that, despite her being a pushover. When it comes to Caleb, she knows she has to be serious, and keep his things off limit. He will get mad and blow a casket on her. He will know if someone been in his room, or even touch anything of his. You could say she is paranoid of that. "I'm sorry, but I can't let you."
"Well... There is another solution, but-"
"NO!"
"It's only for one night! Don't be heartless!"
"No, you are not sleeping in here, Delsin!" Leah wrote, and could feel her face starting to blush at the thought of it. She barely even knows the guy, and he already wants to sleep next to her in her own bed for one night. It may be okay for him, but for her that is a big no.
"Please, Leah! You know I can't sleep through that! Reggie will keep me up all night! Trust me, I've been through that before and it was torture! Please, it's only for tonight..."
Leah stare at him, unsure whether to give him an answer or not. A huge part of her wants to say no, and kick him out of her room. However, a small part was slowly giving in. It didn't help that he was giving a pleading look, all the more to make her feel guilty, and pity towards him. Even though he cause her nothing, but trouble for her.
She took a deep breath. 'I'm going to regret this...' "Alright. Only for tonight." Leah wrote to him. He soon was smiling, began taking off his jacket. It made the white-haired girl wrote down in her notebook quickly, with her face feeling like it was on fire. "Clothes stay on!"
"Yeah, yeah, okay, Snowflake. Thank you. I owe you one."
Leah brush it off as she set her notebook on it's original spot near her lamp. She lay back down on her bed, and turn over to have her back towards Delsin. Her face is facing the wall, not that it matter. She would always lay in this position. Believe it or not, she felt safe. If she lay next towards the edge, she gets paranoid that something might pull her off. It's a childish thing, she knows, but she can't help to feel that way.
Delsin should have enough blanket to make a small bed on the ground. He has two pillows, so he's good.
Leah's eyes shot open, when she felt weight sink down behind her on the bed. Instantly she turned around, only to face Delsin laying underneath the covers with only his pants and no shirt on. The sight of it made Leah blush badly. She tried her best to avoid her eyes to look anywhere beneath Delsin's face. She kept her eyes on his, and glare at him with annoyance.
If only she was closer to her notebook. She would grab it, and write to him about how crazy he is at the moment. However, before she could get up to do that, Delsin grab her shoulder to hold her in place. He gave her a pleading look to justify his action. "It's only for tonight. I won't do anything... On scout's honor... unless you want me to?"
Leah glare at him in response. No doesn't mean anything to this guy. She knows anything she will say will just be futile. Delsin will always get his way. She huff, giving up completely. She turn over to have her back towards him again, and was glad there a foot between them. Thank god her bed was a queen size. She could imagine Delsin smiling like an idiot behind her as he turned off her lamp to make the room completely dark.
She close her eyes, and tried her best to go to sleep. It didn't help that Delsin is right behind her, and this is first time she ever is laying in a bed with a half-naked guy. She blush at the thought, and soon brush it away. She has to sleep. Caleb will be here tomorrow. Hopefully, Delsin will leave her alone, and this night will be done with.
Unfortunately for her that won't likely happen. Her eyes shot open as her face burn with embarrassment when she felt two arms wrap around her waist as a chest is pressing against her back. Her face burning so bad that she is sure that she looks like a tomato. It didn't help that her heart is running fast like a man on marathon run.
She tried struggling, only to have to him hold her tightly in his hold as his warm breath hit the side of her ear making her heart beating fast as ever when he spoke. "It's okay, Snowflake... Just relax." He said in a deep voice that made Leah shudder slightly. She shudder more when she felt him snuggling his head in the crook of her neck. "Relax..."
It was not like she could relax. She curse in her head at her situation. Delsin is making it more worse for her. Leah close her eyes, having no choice in the matter. Soon his embrace to her start to feel relaxing, just a bit. She still is new to this, and this will be the last time this will ever happen between them. Before Leah knew it. She feel asleep in his arms. His warmth, and breathing sing her off to sleep like a lullaby. If only she knew what he was doing to her.
A/N: Yeah, I plan on updating this, but I got caught up on other things where I kind of... have a writer's block. Don't worry, I'm starting to get back into the Infamous series lol So expects some updates. Will Delsin and Leah kiss next chapter? No, Delsin is just teasing and flirting with Leah. Unfortunately for him, Leah will be naive since she is inexperience to his advances so she will be confused about everything.
Fetch will be here soon. I was planning to do a chapter where Delsin goes find and get Fetch's power on that one mission. I am following the game plot but with my own twist of course. Have no fear.
Also thanks for the comments. I appreciate it^^ Please keep them coming. Sorry if I sound desperate or anything xD Comments help keep me motivate to write this story. It makes me happy to know people actually read it, and like it. When there's no comment no motivation, because it feels like no one likes it or actually reads it. It's an author thing^^
