The Justice League Ai members which included Steel, G.I Robot, Red Tornado, Alloy, Gonzo and the Void stomped through the thick snow towards the large purple pulsing energy bubble that domed over the land harvested by T.O Morrow. Brother Eye was keeping track of their progress above in the Earth's atmosphere. The blistering winds thundered into their faces but none felt it. This was their first mission and could easily be their last thought Steel as a million concerns ran through his mind.
"What is the plan of attack?" Red Tornado asked their leader John Henry Irons AKA Steel
"We go in all guns blazing!" Gonzo laughed as he morphed himself in Gary Cooper
"Listen up. Perhaps the Void is the one to ask" Steel replied coldly
"We enter. We find the portal into the Techne and then stop T.O Morrow" the Void spoke up
"And how exactly do we stop Morrow?" Gonzo snorted
The Void hesitated. "Great! She doesn't know!" Gonzo cried out
"Do not presume to think you know what I do and do not know" The Void spat
"Teamwork…" the amalgamated voice of the combined Metal Men spoke to itself quietly
"What's that big guy? Speak up so we can all hear ya" Gonzo said sarcastically to Alloy
Alloys metallic facial expression turned sour "Listen 'Gonzo' let's get one thing straight. We don't like you. You're insubordinate, loud and arrogant and frankly I don't trust you one bit. Just saying what everyone else is thinking"
"Jeez, tell me what you really think"
"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Steel shouted angrily. The rest of the journey was silent. The team finally reached the energy dome and tried to gauge how to enter it.
"I guess we just go on in then?" Steel said as he was the first to walk into the pulsing field. He passed through fairly easily leaving the rest of the members on the outside. Alloy, G.I Robot and The Void quickly followed and stepped through. Gonzo still on the outside cursed to himself and kicked a spray of snow into the air.
"Ah screw it" Gonzo laughed to himself as he jumped through. Gonzo landed on the other side and his eyes widened in awe. The metallic wonder was amazing. A whole city coated in metal and pulsing like a living organism. A large nest of tangled wire sprouted from the rooftops and created an electronic mesh above. The Justice League Ai regrouped and stood shoulder to shoulder just taking it all in. the streets were filled with assimilated people, a large red light buried into their foreheads and metallic veins on the outside of their skin covering their entire naked bodies. All their heads turned to face the Justice League Ai in tandem.
"That must be the portal!" Steel shouted as he pointed his hammer towards the large tunnel of purple energy that shot up vertically into the air in the distance.
"Yeah, about 3 blocks away" Alloy answered as the drone people all pointed their fingers at the team.
"Breach! Breach! Breach! Eliminate the Breach!" They all spoke together with their cold dead voices, no sense of humanity left. With that they all began to walk towards the group.
"Let's show them what we can do!" Steel shouted as he rushed forward leading the team into battle. Alloy tripled his size, now standing 18ft in the air. Laser canons morphed from G.I Robot's arms, Red Tornado flew up into the air and the Void hung back. Gonzo laughed as he ran forward.
"UGH!" Steel grunted as he smashed into the mass crowd swinging his hammer from right to left. Alloy stomped heavily and punched his door sized fist onto the horde of drone people. Red Tornado fired off blasts of turbulent wind from his hand causing many drones to fly off and smash into the buildings around them. Gonzo had morphed himself in Rocky Balboa and was punching wildly. The Void stood by closely and watched, more fixated with the Techne portal that rose high up like a beacon.
"This is too easy!" Steel growled "Somethings not right". The team were making light work of the hordes. They were no match for the Justice League Ai, like zombies being cut down in their hundreds.
"The true challenge will come when you enter into the portal" The Void spoke up
Alloy morphed back down to his normal size as the battle was coming to a close, the fight continued but it felt like practice. After some time more the victory was theirs. The dismembered bodies of the drone people lay in their hundreds across the streets.
"Regroup!" Steel ordered as he wiped the mechanical liquid off his hammer
The group came together to inspect the destruction. G.I Robot gazed across the mass of victims and almost felt pity but then readjusted his senses.
"Damage report" Steel asked his team. Everybody shook their heads and smiled.
"Red see if you can patch through to eye in the sky or the Watchtower" Steel ordered next
"Communication is futile" said the Void
"Affirmative. Communication has proven negative" Red Tornado answered their leader
"Guess we're on our own then, we don't have time to waste. Proceed into diamond formation down the street towards the portal. Alloy you take point and Red your our eye in the sky"
The team nodded at Steel and formed up. They made their way down the streets meeting no resistance. Each knew the true test was yet to come, the challenge would come when they meet T.O Morrow. They made the 3 blocks to the portal in no time. They stopped as they came to the energy tunnel, somehow it appeared alive. The ground around from where it spouted was burnt black.
"Now comes the hard part" Steel said softly as he tried to gaze into the portal
The Void shoved pasted them and stepped into the energy field. The Justice League looked at each other slightly surprised.
"So that answers the question of who wants to go first then!" Gonzo snorted
"Guess so" Steel answered "Shall we?"
The team all nodded and walked in after the Void. Entering the portal felt like falling into the abyss, their senses were knocked off balance as they felt themselves freefalling into an endless cybernetic oblivion. Then the voice spoke to them, the distinct voice of T.O Morrow;
'Welcome. You are now in my domain, the place where I rule! The place I can manipulate and control to my heart's content. Here you have no power, you are mine. The Techne is my sandbox and you are my toys. I shall crush you all individually using your greatest fears and lusts.'
The voice rang and echoed through the minds of each Justice League Ai member as they continued to free fall through their minds eye. Then the falling stopped. The blur stopped and left like a curtain being drawn to reveal the Techne. Their eyes beheld the celestial super technology that made up the entire dimension known as the Techne. A new cybernetic plain. Then darkness fell across their eyes.
'Now let the games begin'
