Decorating Jade's new rooms was fun, but by the time we finished the sun was down and I felt like someone had put me on a stretcher and pulled my limbs as far as they could without ripping me into two pieces. I was currently stretched out across Jade's guest room floor where I'd decided to lay down while she put sheets on the guest bed.
"Are you going to sleep there all night?" she asked.
"I might just." I groaned, I thought about moving but my entire body protested by not moving an inch, "your floor is nice and fluffy." I heard her throw the comforter across the bed and a few seconds later something hit my ass; it was soft but sort of hurt. I turned my head toward the bed; Jade was lying at the foot of it with a pillow tucked under her chin.
"Come on Vega, lets get changed." She rolls off the bed and offers me her hand and pulls me to my feet. My legs ache as I shuffle out the door behind her and drag myself across the hall where her dresser was sitting. She handed me some clothes and I shuffled down to the bathroom and slowly peeled off my clothes.
I'm pretty sure she changed in the hallway, because when I came out she was rolling her shirt down over her stomach, "you owe me big time for this West." I say, poking her in the chest before I walked past her and down the hallway. I crawled on top of her bed and wrapped my arms around a pillow.
"Will a massage cut it?" she asked, sliding onto the end of the bed.
"It's a start." I mumbled into the pillow. I didn't fully expect her to do it, so it was a pleasant surprise when she started to rub my shoulders, I melted into the pillow. She won all of the awards for the best massage, my muscles turned to putty and I just became a part of that bed. She massaged my arms, my back and even my legs before she settled down beside me, "Don't think turning me into putty is going to get you out of telling me what happened with your bitchy ass mother."
"Why do we have to talk about her?" she frowned picking at her nail polish.
"Because she's a massive raging bitch and I want more reasons to hate her guts. Spill, Jade." I roll so I'm laying with my head on her stomach, I tilt my head to look up at her, "come on that's what best friends are for, what did the fire breathing witch do this time?"
"Nothing, the same things." Jade mumbled, toying with my hair, "I mean does she always have to be so rude? She's my mother isn't she supposed to support everything I do? Even if it's something she thinks is bound to fail."
"She should, but your mother is not a normal human mother. What did she bitch about this time?"
"I left a script on the counter when I went to pee and she was reading it when I came back in. She told me it was garbage and that I'd be lucky if I could get a job writing for a local news paper with my skills." I scowled, anger boiling in my stomach. She drapes one arm across my stomach and continues to play with my hair, "so I told her I was leaving, and I left."
"She call you or anything?"
"No. She called my dad, he wouldn't say what she said just that he thought she needed stronger medication." She made a sound somewhere between laughing and a sobbing and bit down on her lip, blinking rapidly to try and prevent tears from rolling down her face.
"Breathe slowly Jade, in and out." I murmured, picking up her hand. I massage her palm with my thumbs absently, "in and out." She started breathing again slowly, sniffling for a few minutes before she calmed down.
"I hate that she can make me feel so shitty." She whispered, I tilted my head and looked up at her, I kissed the center of her palm before I dropped her hand, "thanks for helping today Tori."
"Anytime, but not anytime again soon. Today was more of a work out then I've had in months." I covered my mouth quickly as a yawn ripped through me and then I shifted so I was lying next to her and curled up around a pillow, "get the light, West."
"Are you really bossing me around?" she asked.
"Yes, I am. Get the light." I reached around and poked her in what I assumed was her side and she squealed and hopped up. Once she switched off the light she crawled into the bed beside me and stretched, yawned and curled up behind me. It took me about 15 minutes to fall asleep after that and sadly I was awake by 7 am.
Jade was already gone from her side of the bed, and I could faintly smell coffee somewhere, so I stumbled out of the room and down the stairs into the kitchen. Jade was sitting at her breakfast bar with a cup of coffee in her hand and her phone in the other. There was a second mug beside her that was clearly for me because it had creamer in it and Jade only liked two sugars in her coffee.
"Morning, Vega." I grunted and picked up the coffee, my body was sore as hell, and I just wanted to sleep some more. Instead I took a huge gulp of the coffee and slid onto the stool beside her, leaning against the counter, "so I'm thinking pancakes for breakfast."
"Good plan." I mumbled, covering my mouth with my hand as I yawned. My eyelids drooped and I rested my head against the counter, "you cooking?"
"Sure." Jade replied, I heard her swallowing rapidly before she got up. I didn't bother opening my eyes to see where she went, a few minutes later there was a sound of pans clattering, a ceramic bowl being set down on the marble, the fridge opened, she pulled some things out of it. I lifted my head, sipped my coffee and laid my head right back down, "you know you can go back to sleep. I can move furniture alone."
"No. I said I'd help you, I'm going to help you." I yawned again, "it'll just take some food to wake me up."
"Alright, I'll be done with breakfast soon, don't drool on the counter." Jade joked, I didn't bother responding, I was too tired to even think of a comeback, or move to grab the coffee I really wanted a sip of, so I just kept my head on the table and started to fall asleep, Jade set the pan roughly on the counter and startled me back awake, and continued to do so every time I dosed off for the next twenty minutes, and then she set a plate of pancakes and bacon in front of me.
I sat up, took the fork she offered me and ate in a rush, happy to have food warming my belly. I finished off my coffee and then got myself a glass of water while Jade finished her last pancake, shaking her head and chuckling while I rinsed my plate, "I was hungry, I told you."
"I didn't say anything." Jade pointed out with a huge grin on her face as she chewed her last piece of bacon, when she finished she stood up on the rungs of the stool, leaned over the bar top and set her plate in the sink with a smirk before sitting back down to finish her second cup of coffee while I washed the two plates, the pan and my cup from my coffee, and I washed hers once it was empty.
After that I rinsed my mouth with mouth wash while Jade brushed her teeth, ran a brush through my hair and put on my clothes from yesterday. We started moving furniture into the designated rooms, stopping to build some of the pieces, and running a load of laundry with Jade's new sheet set. Two hours later we were heading over to Jade's mothers house to get the things she wanted from her room.
Jade was tapping her fingers against the steering wheel as she drove; she was silent and staring at the road ahead with blank eyes. I tried to think of someway to lighten the mood but none came to mind, I was almost as terrified as she was at the idea of running into her mother when we got to the house, I opted for taking her free hand in mine and staring out the window.
When we got to her mothers house it was empty, so we silently moved up to her room and carried down the clothes in her closet in her hamper, packed up her books into a few tote bags she had, she grabbed some of her movie posts and a collage frame of old family pictures before we went back down to the car, packed up the back and headed back toward her dads house.
She exhaled once we were back on the main road and turned on the radio, the new Maroon 5 song was playing and we both reached for the volume at the same time. I dropped my hand laughing as she turned it up, "if I fall for you, I'll never recover, if I fall for you, I'll never be the same!"
"I really wanna love somebody, I really wanna dance the night away. I know we're only half way there but you can take me all the way, you can take me all the way. " Jade sang, "I really wanna touch somebody I think about every single day. I know we're only half way there but you can take me all the way, you can take me all the way!"
We sang the rest of the song together loudly, the windows rolled down and breeze blowing our hair everywhere, the next song that came on was Miley's new song so we turned it down and listened, I hummed along under my breath, when we got back to her dads house we carried the boxes up to her room, turned on her radio and started unpacking.
"If I hear this song one more time…" Jade muttered under her breath, I chuckled as I hung up one of her dresses, trying to figure out the song.
"Yeah it's overplayed." I agreed, I didn't even know the majority of the lyrics but when the chorus Jade and I both started singing, "and we danced all night to the best song ever! We knew every line, now I can't remember how it goes but I know that I won't forget her cause we danced all night to the best song ever!"
I danced between her closet and the boxes, singing along with the few words I knew of the song, Jade laughed from her place on the floor organizing her books. When I Love It came on I abandoned her books to dance around her room, singing along with the song. Jade watched me with an amused expression on her face, "dance with me!" I laughed, grabbing her arm and pulling her up.
She protested, standing still as I danced around her, singing loudly, and it wasn't long before she started dancing with me, "I don't care, I love it!" when the song ended I dropped back on her bed and she dropped down beside me, "I think we're done with my room now." Jade stated, holding her phone above her face. it was already 11:30.
I wanted to crawl into her bed and sleep; instead I helped her rearrange her office and then her bathroom. By 2 we were sitting in her living room eating left over pizza. A door opened in the kitchen and we listened as someone walked across the house and soon her dad appeared in the doorway, "Hey dad." Jade greeted, "this is Tori-I'm not sure if you remember her? From the play?"
He paused for a second; studying my face with tired eyes, "right the girl that helped you get funded. Nice to see you again, Tori. Are you girls done moving furniture? I need to get some sleep."
"Yeah everything's all done, we're probably just going to watch a movie or go hang out with some friends. I'll text you and let you know if we leave." Jade told him around a mouthful of pizza.
"Alright, it was nice seeing you Tori." He yawned as he shuffled away.
"He's changed. Much nicer than I remember." Jade nodded but didn't say anything as she finished off her pizza, chasing it down with a huge gulp of soda, "you know what would be nice? Sitting around and reading for the rest of the day. I am so tired." I groaned, leaning my head back against the couch.
"I have an idea, go grab two books from upstairs, make sure they're the first in their series, but don't read the descriptions and meet me in the garage." She got up quickly, grabbing all of our trash. I stood up and walked upstairs, grabbed two books like she said and walked back downstairs, heading into the kitchen and out into the garage. Jade was sitting in her car waiting for me. I dragged the kitchen door shut, walked to the passenger side and dropped into the seat.
Jade opened the garage door, started the car and backed out, hitting the garage door opener to close the doors before she made her way out of the driveway and onto the main road. I asked a million times where we were going, but Jade refused to answer. 20 minutes later we pulled into a park, she found a space to park in the shade and we got out. She grabbed bag from the backseat and motioned for me to follow her, by now I assumed we were reading here, but she still remained silent.
A five minute walk led us up a hill with a lot of trees at the top people were sprinkled across the hill reading on blankets alone or with other people, Jade snagged us a place by a big oak tree and laid out a blanket before sitting down, "pick one of the books and give me the other." She told me, I grabbed one at random and handed it to her, keeping the other for myself.
We stayed there until we'd both finished our books, and since the sun was going down we decided to head back toward her house, "mind stopping by my place so I can get some clothes of my own?"
"No problem." She switched lanes really quickly and made what I'm pretty sure was an illegal u-turn and headed back toward my house. Unsurprisingly Trina wasn't home so my trip upstairs to pack up my things was quick. I packed a bathing suit, something to sleep in and clothes to change into later and I quickly changed out of the paint stained shorts I was in, brushed my teeth and then packed up my travel tooth brush before I went back down the stairs.
I left a note saying I was at Jade's and then walked back out to her car, dropping into the passenger seat and tossing my bag on top of my feet, "still nobody home?"
"No, Trina won't be back until tomorrow night and my parents are on a cruise until next Sunday." I rested my head back against her seat as she pulled away from my house, the sun was completely down when we reached her house, and her father was in the living room and waved in greeting as we passed to head up the stairs.
I set my bag beside her wall while she shed her top shirt and kicked off her shoes before she dropped face first into her bed, "mmm, so comfy." She mumbled, dragging her pillow under her. I chuckled and kicked off my shoes, walking over to the bed and crawling up beside her.
"This is the comfiest bed of all the beds." I groaned, grabbing a second pillow and tucking it under my head. My eyelids felt heavy again, and I was really tired, "I'm going to fall asleep." I told her, yawning.
"Mmm, no. it's not even 8." She nudged my leg and then yawned, "we should go watch a movie or something."
"Okay." I mumbled, "movie, got it." I didn't move and neither did she, I thought about getting up and watching a movie, but the longer I laid there they more sluggish my thoughts felt and soon I was asleep, having a dream about sitting at the beach with my feet in the wet sand as the tide rolled in and out.
Sorry this was so short, I tried to make it longer but I couldn't. Don't worry, I will make the next chapter longer! Thanks for reading, hope you're enjoying! –Mel
