A Boy and an Eevee 4

*Fore-note: I was thinking, and decided Trevor needed a travelling companion. So, be ready for a new human character!*

In the morning, I showered in my room's bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror. I shivered thinking about the replay of my nightmare last night. "What is with this dream?" I wondered. I shook my head and woke Eevee. She only blinked twice before she hopped up, ran up my arm, and perched herself on my shoulder. "It was amazing how she could balance so well on my shoulder" I thought while smiling and shaking my head at her.

We headed to the small food court located near the front of the Pokemon Center. I let out Spike and we sat at a booth to eat breakfast. We were all enjoying ourselves when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see a Fiery-red head of hair and an extremely familiar face.

"Trevor!" the boy said, leaning down and grabbing me in one of the fierce hugs I knew him for. Eevee and Spike were a bit startled by the sudden intrusion.

"Nate!" I said back, standing up and returning the hug with just as much vigor. "It's been way to long, man!" I said, releasing him and staring at his face. His face had acquired a scar and became more chiseled and clean looking.

Turning to my Pokemon, I made the introductions.

"Guys, this is my cousin, Nathan. Nathan, this is my partner, Eevee, and my second pokemon, Spike." I said, making the respective gestures. I invited Nate to sit with us, so he grabbed some food from the buffet and we started catching up.

"So, what are you doing in Farrence?" I asked him.

"I'm getting my second Gym Badge. How many do you have?" he asked.

"This is actually my first stop." I said, smiling. He started tearing into a stack of pancakes while I sipped my juice.

"Every time I watch you eat, I'm afraid you're gonna choke. Slow down, dude." I said. He just raised his head enough to smirk at me.

"Whatever, mom!" he said with a roll of his eyes. We both started laughing. Though we rarely saw each other, we got along really well. I suddenly remembered something that I should probably tell my pokemon.

"Oh, guys, before I forget, Nate came to visit when I was learning to understand pokemon, and it turns out that he is a really quick learner." Eevee nearly fell over and Spike did a flip, shouting "Awesome!"

"Is there anyone you know that can't understand poke-speech?" she asked. I feigned a look of thoughtfulness for a second.

"Well, my mom and my sister, basically it's just me and Nate, that I know of." I said, she accepted this and went back to her breakfast.

"Hey, that reminds me, what pokemon do you have? And do they know?" I asked, he grinned, and with a "Yep", he let out three pokemon.

After materializing from red beams, a Chimchar, Magnimite, and a Hippopotas stood in front of our table.

"This is my Chimchar, Signal or 'Siggy', my Magnimite, Casey, and my Hippopotas, TJ." He beamed with pride. Each said hi respectively. "Guys, this is my cousin, Trevor." he bent down and whispered to them, "The one who got me poke-speech lessons." They looked to me and smiled. Signal climbed my leg and body until he was perched on my shoulder. Eevee looked at me with Signal on my shoulder. I smiled at her and chuckled goo-naturedly.

"Sorry bud, but that's Eevee's seat." I said to him, smiling. He jumped off, all little dejected. I looked over and saw the Magnimite bow with the magnate on his side.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Trevor." I smiled appreciatively.

"Nice manners" I complemented, "Maybe you can teach Nate a thing or two." I suggested. I watched Casey's single eye glance at Nate, who was busy playing with TJ.

"Care to join us? I want look around a bit before going to the gym." I said to Nate. He perked up, and we all shoved into the booth, laughing and talking and chowing down.

Thirty minutes later, we were walking down a crowded city street, looking up at all the tall buildings, Eevee and Signal perched on our shoulders, Casey floating along behind us. A thought came to me suddenly.

"Hey Nate, where did you find Casey?" I asked. He glanced over at me curiously.

"There was this abandoned factory on the other side of town, crawling with Steel and Electric types." He said. I started thinking of all the possible pokemon I could catch. He noticed the excited look in my eye.

"You want me to show you?" he asked. I nodded vigorously. He sighed and took off into the crowd. I followed after him, determined not lose sight of him.

Soon, we were standing in front of an old brick and glass storehouse with multiple broken windows and holes in the walls. We were in the outer edge of the city, and there was no one around. As we approached, I saw a couple Pikachu disappear into a hole in the wall.

"Well, this is it. Go on in, I'm gonna wait out here." He said. He proceeded to sit down against a light post that had grass sprouting up near it, pull his hat over his eyes, and fall asleep. Signal followed his lead and curled in his lap. I sighed and looked at Casey.

"Could you stay here and watch him? Make sure he doesn't get mugged or killed?" He nodded and floated above Nathan, looking determined. I let out Spike and turned to enter the dilapidated building.

Once my eyes adjusted to the gloom of the factory, I just barely saw some pokemon scurry into hiding.

"Well, this'll be fun." I sighed to myself. I pulled out my flashlight and swept the beam back and forth across the room. I started into the dark interior with Eevee and Spike close behind.

After 30 minutes wandering around the warehouse with hardly sign of another pokemon, I sighed with resignation and pulled myself onto a dusty, old machine, possibly a generator. My pokemon jumped up with me. I glanced out a grimy window nearby and saw Nate in the parking lot, still sleeping. Casey was floating around him, almost patrolling, with a look of extreme determination in his eye. I had to laugh a bit. I hear my stomach growl, followed almost immediately by Eevee's. I laughed again as she blushed and I grabbed my bag.

"Here" I said, grabbing to apples out of my bag. I set one down next to me as I went back to rooting through my backpack for my knife. I found it and set to work slicing the second apple in half. I gave Eevee and Spike each a half and folded my knife, slipping it into my pocket. As I did, the other apple rolled off the machine, landing with a soft thunk on the ground.

"I got it." I said sliding down. Halfway down, I saw a shiny, round head poke out from under the machine. It darted back under as a hit the ground. I quickly crouched and peered under the generator. What I saw softened my stern, searching gaze. A small, quivering Aron sat deep in the shadows, its frightened blue eyes catching the light. I quickly noticed how small it seemed and looked back at the apple.

"Hi there little guy, are ya hungry?" I asked, reaching back for the apple and signaling Eevee and Spike to stay put. I rolled it a bit in front of me and sat quietly with a soft smile on my face.

The small pokemon slowly came towards me, until I could reach out and touch him. He nibbled softly at the apple at first, then, encouraged by my kind eyes, he started chomping happily on the apple. I reached out and patted it's head. It rubbed my hand in response and made a soft, purr-like sound. When it had finished with apple, I gingerly picked it up and tickled its stomach. It wiggled its short legs and started giggling with a look of glee on his face. I could tell it was a boy from his voice.

"Hehe, stop it! That tickles!" I smiled warmly and stopped, reaching for my bag.

"Oh all right, but on one condition." I said "Would you like to join me and my friends?" I asked him, hopefully.

"Friends?" he asked, finally noticing Eevee and Spike. Eevee smiled kindly and Spike was bouncing up and down with excitement.

"I've never had friends before." He said, excitement and hopefulness creeping into his voice.

"Is that a yes?" I asked.

"Yes! Friends sound fun!" He said happily. I gave him another tickle, getting another of his child like laughs. I reached into my bag and grabbed a pokeball, and tapped the button on his head. He disappeared in a red flash and the ball rocked out of my hands. It shook once and was still. Probably due to the willingness, I thought. I picked it up smiling and said softly,

"I'll call you Eric." I shrunk the ball and clipped it to my belt. I beckoned to my other pokemon and they jumped down. I slung on my backpack and we all walked out the large doors of the warehouse.

I walked over to Nathan slumbering form, giving a short greeting to Casey. As I watched Nathan sleep, an evil thought popped into my head. Quickly and quietly, I told Eevee, Spike and Casey my plan. I carefully pulled Signal's pokeball off of Nathan's belt, and returned him. I put it back, and then with an evil grin, crept around behind him and pulled out my knife. I grabbed Nathan roughly and firmly by the shoulder, putting my knife blade close to his neck. In a deep, grating voice, I whispered in his ear.

"Scream and I slit your throat. Don't even think about moving, where do you keep your valuables?" I could see him visibly tense up and heard him gulp in fear.

"W-w-what?" he stammered fearfully. I saw his hand start to creep slowly down towards his belt.

"I wouldn't do that." I whispered threateningly. "Now hand over all your cash." I demanded. I glanced over and saw Spike, beside Eevee, out of Nathan's range of sight. He was barely stifling his laughter. Nathan reached under himself and pulled out his wallet. I quickly grabbed it and placed my hand back on his shoulder.

"Now keep sitting there for five minutes, quietly, or I will hunt you down and cut you open." I slowly stood up and just watched Nathan tremble in fear from behind. When the five minutes was up I said to him,

"Well, how's it going Nate?" I said, with honest question in my voice.

"Trevor! Oh man, I am in big…" He stopped when he stood and turned to see me standing there with my knife in one hand, his wallet in the other.

"You dick!" He yelled at me. "Why'd you scare me like that?"

"To repay you for all those pranks you pulled on me as kids. And to teach you what might happen if you decide to nap in the parking lot of an abandoned factory on the outskirts of a city." I said smugly. He looked angry for a little bit, but then understanding came over his face.

"I guess I did deserve that, and it's a lesson I won't soon forget." He said sheepishly he then perked up into his usual self. "Hey, did you catch anything?" He asked me excitedly.

"Yep" I answered shortly.

"Well, what then?" he asked me curiously.

"You'll see." I said, smiling to myself.

"Come on! Please tell me?" "Nope" "Please?" "Nu-uh" "Why not?" he whined.

"Because, I love to see you suffer." I said, grinning.

"You suck, you know that?" He said, glumly.

"Yep." I said cheerfully. "Let's head to the gym, after we heal our pokemon." I said. We headed off towards the city. He followed behind, looking depressed and deep in thought, wondering what I caught.
