Chapter 4:

Proof

Over the next couple weeks Cosmo was still hanging out with Tamara girl often and Wanda still didn't like it.

She hated herself for being jealous like this. She was Cosmo's wife and she knew that he was nothing but faithful to her. And it wasn't like he wasn't allowed to have friends that were girls. She had plenty of male friends as it was. She didn't want to believe that Sparkle and Dana were right and she tried to ignore the whole thing but it was driving her crazy.

It was obvious that she liked Cosmo whether he realized it or not (and knowing him he didn't). The way she dressed, always being so close to him, the way she looked at him and giggled around him. Not to mention the argument they had that day. It angered her that another woman would act this way around her husband.

She had tried to ignore it and let it be innocent but it was starting to get to the point where she was dying to get to the bottom of this, yet she was afraid of what Cosmo would actually say if she asked him. Cosmo was the love of her life, they had been married for such a long time, what would she do if Cosmo really did want to be with Tamara?

One evening she was making him dinner and heard him come through the door.

"Wanda I'm home!" he called.

"I'm in the kitchen dear!" she called back.

He flew in and kissed her cheek. "Hey gorgeous." He looked at what he was making. "Ooh, spaghetti. You're amazing." He kissed her again.

"I know," she said with a smile. "How was your day?"

"It was fun," Cosmo replied as he sat at the kitchen table. "Tamara and I went go karting."

Wanda nodded slowly, she should have known. "Sounds fun."

She put dinner plates on the table and sat across from him wondering whether she should bring up Tamara. But she didn't want to sound like a naggy jealous wife.

Later, after changing into their pajamas for the night, they were sitting on the swing on the balcony in the back of the house. Finally she had to do it. She couldn't resist. "I've noticed you've been hanging out with Tamara a lot," she said tentatively.

"I haven't been hanging out with her that much," he said.

"Are you sure you don't like….have any…feelings for her?" Immediately after saying it she wanted to take it back. Now she was really sounding like the naggy jealous wife.

He looked at her surprised. "You mean like, love her?"

"Yes."

He was surprised that Wanda would ever think that. He put his hand on hers. "Wanda why would you think I'm in love with her? You're my wife honey. There's no one else in my heart."

Of course she felt stupid. Her husband was amazing and nothing but faithful. Even in the way he looked at her and held her hand now, she could see the love for her in his eyes. "I just thought maybe you felt something for her since she likes you."

Cosmo raised his eyebrow again surprised. "What? She doesn't like me that way."

Wanda crossed her arms. "C'mon Cosmo. You can't tell me you haven't noticed that she likes you."

"But we're just friends. She doesn't feel that way about me."

Wanda narrowed her eyes at him. "Cosmo Cosma are you really that naïve?"

"Define naïve."

"Clueless, honey. They way she looks at you and acts around you, she's flirting with you Cosmo."

He put his hands on her shoulders. "Wanda, I don't want you to worry about it okay? I'm not in love with her. I only love you."

"You promise?" she asked with a pout.

He smiled and kissed her hand. "I promise. I'm going to prove to you that she doesn't like me."

"How?"

"You'll see."

The next day Cosmo pulled Wanda out of the house.

"Cosmo, where are we going?" she asked as he led her down the street.

"To the diner," he said excitedly.

They went to the diner he used to work at when he was a teenager. It was where he had his first job and where he'd met Wanda the summer before senior year of high school. But they weren't going there to reminisce.

"Why are we here?" she asked.

"Because Tamara and I were here the other day," Cosmo said.

"So?" Wanda asked still confused.

"So, we'll ask the guy who works here if he thinks she likes me."

"Cosmo, that's ridiculous…"

They went up to the counter and sat in the spinning chairs. "What can I do for you Cosmo?" Kev asked as he poured lemonade into a drink for a customer.

"I have a question. You know that girl I was in here with the other day?"

"Yeah, the black haired one?"

Cosmo nodded. "Do you think she liked me?"

"Oh yeah. If you weren't married to Wanda, I would have thought you were on a date with her." Kev looked back and forth between the two of them for a moment. He had been working here for years and he'd watched Cosmo fall head over heels for Wanda that day. Since then they'd come by often and they were always joined at the hip. Now he wondered if Cosmo was asking him this because there was trouble in paradise. "You weren't on a date with her...were you?"

"No!" Cosmo said surprised by his answer.

Wanda looked at him. "See? I told you she likes you. Even Kev thinks so."

Cosmo took her arm and pulled her out of her seat. "You know Kev is crazy."

Kev rolled his eyes. "You'd be one to talk Cosmo!" he called after him as they neared the door.

Cosmo pulled Wanda down the street in another direction.

"Now where are we going?" she asked.

"Just follow me."

They arrived at Cosmo's best friend Jeff's house. They went up to the door and Cosmo rang the doorbell impatiently.

"Hey Cosmo, hey Wanda," Jeff said after opening the door.

"You remember that girl I was with a few days ago?" Cosmo asked.

"Yeah Tamara. Why?"

"Do you think she liked me?"

Jeff snickered. "Yeah. She's totally in love with you. I thought you were dating her. I was about to go find Wanda and tell her to kick your ass."

That made Wanda giggle.

Cosmo sighed in frustration, then took her hand again. "Come on."

"Where are you going?" Jeff asked.

Wanda twirled her finger by her head and mouthed "he's crazy" in response.

Next they went to an intersection and went up to the fat crossing guard. "Hey Mr…" Cosmo looked at his name tag, "Stevenson."

Stevenson gave him an annoyed look. "Cosmo, I've seen you on this street every other day for years. How can you not know my name?" He tipped his hat to Wanda. "How are you putting up with this guy Wanda?"

"It's been difficult Stevenson," Wanda replied.

Cosmo elbowed her. "Hey." He looked back at Stevenson. "Well, do you remember the girl I was with the other day?"

"Yeah…"

"Do you think she liked me?"

"No doubt about it she liked you."

"Damn it," Cosmo mumbled.

"Excuse me you two, but I have to get back to work," Stevensen said turning back to the crosswalk.
