They got to Cato's room to find him packing up. "Cato, can I talk to you?" Clove asked.
"Of course, Clover," Cato said, turning to them.
"I think we need to clear a few things up," Clove said.
"Like what?"
"I was never abused."
"You weren't?" he asked relieved.
"No never."
"I made sure they never hurt her," Kawino stated.
"How?" he asked.
"Mostly a deal that they can do whatever they want to me as long as she stayed safe and out of it."
"You went through all that alone?"
"Only in the sense that I'm the only one that it happened to but though you didn't realize, you guys and Enobaria helped... a lot."
"We did?"
"Definitely."
"How? We didn't save you."
"You would have failed and gotten hurt or worse if you tried. What you did do is just be there in general which gave me something to look forward to, a reason to keep fighting, a reason to keep LIVING."
"Okay, well we were all glad to."
"You guys are the best."
"Thanks Kawino, I felt like we failed you."
"You certainly didn't."
"So, what happens with your parents?"
"We'll pretty much have to cross that bridge when we get to it," Kawino said, still trying to sort out how he feels on that. "Right now we need to get out of her as soon as possible and 2's the last on the list anyways."
"Last?"
"For the rebellion."
"Right, I suppose that makes sense."
"Yeah, it is the hardest."
"Yeah, with the military force."
"We'll need more experience and man power to stand a chance."
"That's true."
"You almost ready?"
"Yeah, nearly."
"Good."
"We need to leave in just a little bit."
"I know."
"Okay, just making sure."
"Just need a few more things."
"Don't forget foods."
"I won't."
"Okay, I'll leave you to it."
"Won't be long at all." Kawino nodded leaving the room to wait.
Soon they were ready to head out. "Alright we need to be careful and you two need to be sure there is no turning back."
"We are sure," Cato said.
"Okay then, let's go."
"Which way?"
"The old weapons factory." They headed there. They moved slowly through the shadows.
Eventually they got to the same place Kawino and Clove snuck in. Soon enough after that they crept out. "Now just follow us, the trip to the base is a little long and complicated for obvious purposes."
"Kawino, would you pick me up?" Cady asked hopefully.
"Sure." Kawino smiled and did so.
Cady smiled and hugged him as he did. "I missed you, Kawino."
"I missed you, too, Cady," he said, as they kept walking
"What's your base like?"
"It's hard to describe, big I guess would be the start."
"You'll see soon though; you'll love it."
"Is there anything fun for me to do?"
"Lots," Kawino and Clove both answered.
"Yay! I hate being bored."
"That won't happen there."
"Okay," she said happily.
"As I said, you'll love it."
"As long as I have you three."
"Thanks, Cady. You'll like Johanna too."
"Is she nice?"
"Yes actually."
"Oh good, I have always hoped so."
"She played it well though. Practically a Career."
"Yes she did play it very well."
Kawino nodded. "Can't say I'm not impressed."
"What's the deal with her?"
"In what way?"
"Well, why did she join you?"
"Snow wanted to sell her for sex in the Capitol but she refused so he killed everyone she loved."
"That's so sick," Cato said.
"Extremely, they apparently do that with any victor deemed particularly desirable."
"Wow, that's just wrong."
"Another great reason this rebellion need to happen."
"Yeah it does."
"So that's why."
"That and so much else."
"Yeah, too many to list."
"That's why I work towards a rebellion."
"Makes perfect sense."
"You're a smart girl Cady."
"Thanks."
"My pleasure," Kawino said.
"You're smart to though."
"I'm okay, but not as smart as you."
"Not as educated, you're smarter."
"No way," he said, smiling down at her.
"You are."
"Alright, maybe I am a little." He shrugged smiling.
"It takes someone incredibly smart to successfully start a rebellion like this."
"In one place; still eleven to go."
"The point still stands."
"Yes it does of course," he said.
"So, you believe me?"
"Yes, I do, Cady."
"Good." Cady smiled. "It's nice to see you confident."
"He been extremely confident since this started actually," Clove told them.
"He has?" Cady asked, from her position in his arms.
"When I told him that no one's going to let him get away with this rebellion he just said 'The question isn't who's going to let me, it's who's going to stop me'."
"Well it is. By the way the answer to that is if I do it right no one." Kawino said.
"See? Confidence." Clove told Cady with a smile.
"Yeah, I see." Cady said. She smiled widely at that. It was so different from that Kawino she knew that had no confidence at all but in a good way.
"Here we are." Kawino said stopping.
"I don't see anything," Cady said, looking around.
"Hop down."
She did and landed with a loud CLANG. She looked at her feet and moved the foliage revealing the door. "That's so cool!"
"It gets better."
"Really?" She asked as he opened the door.
"After you," he motioned. Cady smiled climbing down. "You can go next, Cato. We've already seen it." He raised an eyebrow but followed.
Kawino and Clove followed down to the living area. Cady and Cato stood with shocked gazes. "And they've only seen the first room." Clove laughed.
"What else is there?"
"Almost anything. Even some stuff we've never seen before like this freaky box thing."
"Freaky box thing?" Cady asked
"Yeah, we found it in one of the rooms and none of us knows what it is."
"Can I see it?"
"Sure, follow me." So she did leaving Cato and Clove alone
Without a word Clove pulled him right in kissing him having need that so badly. "Sorry I missed you." She said panting when they separated. "I just we left so suddenly. I mean, it makes sense why we had to but... I didn't want to leave you."
"You came back though."
"Kawino insisted on it."
"He did?"
"Yeah, I told him how I felt and he insisted on going."
"You didn't want to?"
"Of course I wanted too."
"Why did he need to insist then?"
"Because I wanted to, but I was afraid of what would happen if he were to get caught."
"…I guess that makes sense."
"Sorry."
"Okay, I forgive you."
"Thank you. I really did miss you though, Cato."
"I missed you, too, Clover."
"At least we're together now though."
"Yeah, that's great."
"And we always will be from now on."
"Promise?"
"I promise." He smiled pulling her close again. "I love you, Cato," she whispered.
"I love you, too, Clover," he said, before kissing her again.
"Wanna prove how much?" Clove smirked when they separated.
"Where?" He asked picking her up as her legs wrapped around his waist.
"There's an empty bedroom just through that door and to the right," Clove said, pointing. Cato smiled and went through the door closing it behind them.
Meanwhile Kawino led Cady to the computer. "So this is the box?" She asked
"Yes it is."
"Weird."
"I assume you don't know what it is either?"
"Not a clue."
"Johanna thinks it might be some kind of electronic thing and 3 is our next stop so we might find out."
"Sounds fun." Cady said
"It does doesn't it?" said a women's voice from behind them. Cady turned to find Johanna. "Hello, who are you?" Johanna asked
"Cady Haring, Kawino and Clove's friend and I'm joining this rebellion."
"Awfully young, aren't you?"
"I'm six, but don't let that fool you."
"Oh? You're that good?"
"Yes she is. Youngest ever to make it into the advanced class in the Special Academy," Kawino explained.
"Very impressive."
"Thank you." Cady smiled.
"No problem." Johanna said walking over to Kawino and planting a light kiss on his lips.
"Wow, what?" Cady asked, having not known they were together.
"What?" Johanna asked.
"Oh, Johanna and I got together," Kawino said.
"Well, yeah, I can see that." Cady said, smiling.
"Guess I should have mentioned that."
"Probably." She said now inspecting Johanna. "So, tell me some about the real you," Cady started.
"What do you mean?" Johanna asked
"I saw your Games but tell me about just you."
"Well I like reading and wrestling. I am kind of aggressive."
"You better not be towards him."
"I won't be, unless we wrestle."
"You better not."
Johanna let out a relieved breath grateful the little girl hadn't caught the double meaning in what she said. "I won't hurt him promise." She said
"Okay."
"So, do I get your seal of approval?" Johanna asked.
"For now but I'm keeping my eye on you."
"Understood," Johanna said, smiling.
"When is the trip to 3 gonna be?" Cady asked either.
"Not sure yet. It'll take a while to plan and teach you three how to use a gun though."
"You have guns?"
"Yes we do, in the arsenal."
"Can I see?"
"Of course." She smiled wide. "Follow me," he said, and led her there. She did seeming giddy.
They got there and her jaw hit the floor. "Like it?"
"This is amazing!"
"We know." Kawino said.
"How'd you get all this?"
"It was here."
"Wow."
"Yeah, whoever this place was for meant a lot."
"Clearly."
"This is amazing."
"Yes, and is certainly a good thing because we'll need as many as we can get."
"We take from peacekeepers along the way."
"Perfect."
"Yeah."
"I really believe we can pull this off."
"If we do it right of course we can."
"And we will."
"Of course, how about a movie though?"
"A what?"
"A movie," Kawino said.
"Which is?"
"Sort like moving pictures."
"So like a video."
"Yes but fun."
"Okay, you've caught my interest."
"You'll love it." He said leading the way.
"I believe you." She smiled following him.
Johanna smiled after them though as they disappeared towards the videos, she heard faint moans coming from the other direction.
'Seriously?' She thought looking over in that direction. 'Here and now, where their siblings could find them?' She thought shaking her head. They didn't seem to at least.
'I could open the door and teach a lesson...' She thought carefully weighing her options and then deciding scaring the little girl for life was likely not the best idea. She'll have to talk to them about that once they're done though.
Still a small bit of her was envious Johanna was very...pent up so to speak, and had been for a while. However, she was not the type to just jump into bed with a guy for a fling. She probably would with Kawino but it was too soon. 'Still wish they would have waited.' She thought.
A while later Cato and Clove disheveled hair and all came out of the room smiling. "That was wonderful," Clove said.
"Yes it was."
"So, where do you think the others went?"
"I don't know."
"Well let's look around."
Clove nodded fixing her hair. Cato followed her lead. As she messed with it, Clove tried to think of where they might have gone. "Maybe the armory."
"There's an armory?"
"Of course."
"It's amazing actually."
"I want to see it."
"Follow me."
He did and was stunned by seeing it. "Amazing, there's even guns."
"Yeah, that was a nice surprise."
"They were all here?"
"Yeah, the guns were here before us; all the weapons were. All we did was clean the dust off."
"Convenient, almost as if it were designed for this purpose."
"Maybe, but we think it was to protect someone important."
"I guess either could explain it."
"Yeah, either could."
"Either way, it certainly gives us an advantage."
"Oh yeah, definitely."
"The Capitol won't even know what hit them."
"They won't. It's going to take time though."
"Not denying that."
"So, anywhere else they might be?"
"The video room."
"Video room?"
"Yeah, like the Games but fun."
"Sounds interesting."
"It is."
"And I'm sure that's where they are."
"Let's go then."
She led the way and heard a video already on inside "Yeah, they are." They walked in to find the other three wrapped up in a video, Johanna leaning against Kawino. "There you guys are."
"Shh!" Cady said.
Clove shrugged and took a seat. "This movie is confusing." Kawino said.
"I supposed you can't fill us in then?"
"Not really, Cady probably can."
Cady paused the movie and turned to them. "Okay, so the whole thing's set in a city that's divided into five areas that sets out to fix a problem in human nature. This one girl is from an area that wants to get rid of selfishness and it's just flat out awful. She went to some test to see which area belongs in and got results for three areas which apparently means she's something called a Divergent which is also the name of the video and is apparently dangerous somehow."
"Cool?" Clove said.
"Yeah, just a little confusing."
"Alright, well, continue I suppose."
She pressed play and once it got to Dauntless it stopped being so confusing and more uncomfortable. Once Eric told Al to stand in front of the target Cady hastily turned it off. "No more of that."
"What's wrong?" Johanna asked.
"Too close to home."
"Agreed." Kawino said.
Cato and Clove both nodded. "Sorry." Johanna said.
"We hadn't really seen it coming."
"None of us did."
"Maybe we should pick something else."
"What about Captain America?" Kawino asked.
"Put it in," Cady shrugged, now curious.
He nodded and slide the disc in. "America was the name of the previous society wasn't it?" Johanna asked anyone.
"Yeah, it was."
"Then let's see." Kawino shrugged as it started.
They were all amazed as it started to play. They had heard stuff of America before but it was a completely different animal actually seeing it. "It looks so...different from Panem," Kawino said.
"Unbelievably."
"It's weird."
"A bit but amazing."
"Yeah, oddly."
They just kept watching. Then it showed bits of World War II. That had surprised them a bit. "A war?"
"Apparently."
"Weird."
"I never realized there used to be other countries."
"Me either, I wonder if they are still out there."
"I'd find it hard to believe they all died out completely. If there is, do they know about what the Capitol's doing here? If so, they're no better than the Capitol for just sitting back and letting it happen because it doesn't affect them but if not, they might be of use if we could contact them in some way."
"That could work."
"Beetee might be able to find a way."
"He might yes."
"I guess we'll see." They watch hypnotized by the movie. Eventually it got to the transformation.
"What just happened?"
"No clue, was this for real?"
"How am I supposed to know?" Johanna asked.
"Sorry, I wasn't actually asking, just thinking out loud."
"Oh sorry," she said.
"It okay. Just, wow."
"Yeah impressive."
"Probably fictional though."
"Probably."
"It is cool though."
"Yeah it is."
"Imagine if we had something like that."
"It would be great."
"Impossible though."
"Yeah I know."
"Making a cool video though."
"So far." Kawino said, observing the video for useful information or tools.
At the end of the movie Kawino looked lost deep in his thoughts "What are you thinking?" Johanna asked him.
"That shield and how much I want one," he admitted. "Just think about how many uses it would have," he explained.
"More than a fair few."
"Exactly."
"Well, I don't know if it can be done but..." She trailed off.
"Probably not."
"Yeah, sorry."
"It's fine."
"Maybe we should start planning?"
"Yes we should."
"So where to next?" Cady yawned.
"District 3."
"Right, of course."
"Which we're already plenty close to."
"Good, so that means no long trips."
"Well, to 7 we just snuck onto the train when it was stopped to refuel."
"That's going to be our best transport mode."
"Definitely."
"Now their fence is really well maintained."
"So we need to find out how to get passed."
"Cut the power?"
"Would be hard from the outside."
"Yes it would, but we can't climb it."
"How did you get through 7's gates?"
"Took the train straight through."
"Then why not just do that?"
"It could work."
"Seems the easiest way."
"How do we know when to get the train though?"
"Three is the brightest district literally."
"How does that help?"
"We'll know even from in the train when we're there."
"How will we know when the train's anywhere near to board though?"
"It should stop."
"Wouldn't we need to know when to go after it though?"
"One of us keeps watch for the lights."
"Okay."
"Okay, then we go see Beetee."
"Right."
"From there he can help with everything else."
"Perfect."
"Good, so we have a game plan."
"Then what for the actual revolt?"
"We need to rally the people first."
"How?"
"They work, hard for some of the Capitals luxuries, while getting to use none of what they create, they will already have a lot of built up rage for that alone."
"That does make sense."
"We just need to use that."
"Then there should be no problem."
"Yeah rage is an easy emotions to bring out."
"What's the exact goal there though?"
"To draw them into a fight and then take out those in charge. Also take the electronics industry to a halt."
"There by slowing economy in the Capitol."
"Makes sense."
"Yeah, then the people need to hold the power."
"Should work."
"Then that'll be two down."
"Ten to go."
"Exactly."
"Great progress."
"Yeah, but we should sleep."
"Right."
"So, let's all relax."
"I like that."
He smiled pulling Johanna to him. "You ready?"
"Yes, I am," she said, leaning into him
"Back to the room?"
"Yes, if everyone knows where they want to sleep tonight."
"Do you all?" Kawino asked the room.
"Cato and I found a room," Clove said.
"Cady?" He asked, not realizing how exactly.
"I need to know where the rooms are."
"I'll show you."
"Thanks," she said, following Kawino.
He got up and led her out of the room. "So, do you want a room?"
"As opposed to?"
"One of the couches."
"A room."
"Okay all to yourself?"
"There's an option otherwise?"
"Well you could share with Cato and Clove if you like."
"What about you?"
"Do you want to stay with me?" He asked
"Yeah."
"Why?" he asked, surprised.
"Why wouldn't I?"
"Well I don't know... I'm not your brother at least not by blood."
"Blood doesn't really matter."
"I just thought if it came to me or Cato..." he trailed off.
"I saw Cato all the time."
"Well, that's true. Johanna, would you mind it?"
"No."
"Alright, then you can stay with us."
Cady smiled and hugged him. "I love you, Kawino. Its great having you back."
"I love you, too, Cady."
Johanna smiled, it was heartwarming. "Are you ready now?" he asked her.
"If you two are."
"I am," Johanna said.
"I am too."
"Then yes."
They smiled as he led to a room with a large bed. "So, this is it?"
"Yeah, if you want a bed of your own I could move a smaller one in here," he offered.
"That would be better."
"Okay, give me a few minutes.'
"I can help," Cady offered.
"No, you don't have to."
"I don't mind."
"Okay."
"Follow me then." She nodded following along. They headed to one of the other bedrooms.
Soon they had it moved. "Would there be a way to get it higher?"
"Not tonight."
"Okay, fair enough."
"Sorry," he said.
"It's okay."
"I'll work on it though," he said.
"Okay, thanks, Kawino."
"No problem, I love you, Cady."
"I love you, too. We should sleep." She yawned. They both nodded.
With that they all climbed into bed, Johanna snuggled up against Kawino and they both fell asleep with little struggle.
Cady rolled over smiling pleasantly at them before drifting off herself.
The next day it was time to get to 3. "Ready to go?" Everyone nodded. "Okay let's move out," Kawino said, slipping on his mask.
They headed off to the tracks. "Okay now we sneak in."
"Okay."
"Move it," he said.
They all got on. "Now it's just a matter of patience," Kawino said, going over the weapons he had brought.
"At least this trip is a short one though."
"Yeah it is. Are you guys nervous?"
"A little yeah. Were you guys?" Cady asked.
"Yeah, a little bit."
"How did you handle it?"
"Going over the plans."
"Okay, so we should do that?"
"Just keep going over the plan in your head or take a nap."
"Okay."
"Okay?" he asked.
"I'll try that."
"Probably best."
"Thank you."
"No problem, we'll wake you."
Cady nodded and climbed up some of the crates. "That's better." She said and laid down on the highest one and went to sleep.
"What's with her and heights?" Johanna asked.
"She feels safer the higher up she is," Cato answered. "Says it gives her a better vantage point of any dangers. She's always liked them but about a year ago it turned into a dependency. Now I know what changed."
"Poor Cady, wish I had known."
"About the heights thing?" Cato asked.
"Yeah I didn't know."
"It's okay, you had more than enough things to worry about to be expected to."
"Still I could have tried to help her get over it well I could have talked to her in class anyway."
"If anyone's to blame here it me," Cato countered. "She's my sister and I never even realized something was wrong."
"Maybe but Clove does distract you."
"I still should have noticed something was wrong."
"Maybe yeah but you didn't cause it; they did."
"Even though she wouldn't have said why, I might have been able to help if I had noticed how she felt."
"Both of us failed to notice let's just leave it at that."
"Yours is more understandable."
"They are both understandable."
"How?"
"You can't notice everything." Kawino said
"Pretty big thing to miss."
"Let's just drop it okay?"
"Okay." Kawino spent the ride wondering why he brought along a shield.
Soon the glow of 3 came to view. Shaking himself from his thoughts he prepared to jump out "It's time" he called to Cady.
"Okay." She called hopping down.
Everyone got ready to jump. "Now." Kawino said. They all jumped off with little struggle and rolled for a short distance before stopping.
They again headed to the Victor Village staying out of sight. "Beetee is the furthest house to the left," Johanna said.
So they headed there and Kawino knocked. "Who is it?" A man's voice asked from the other side
"Friends."
"That's not going to work with me I need a name."
"I can't give it out in the open like this."
"Fine, just a moment."
It was a little bit before the door opened. A middle aged looking man with large glasses was there He was surprised at the sight. "Johanna..." he said, spotting her. "How are the rest of you?" he asked.
"They are my friends and more." Johanna said. Beetee rose an eyebrow but let them inside. "Thank you, Volts." Johanna said smiling a little
"What's with the outfits?"
"They are for appearances."
"How so?"
"Well, we're starting a rebellion, might as well look good," she said. "We were wondering if you want to help with that."
"A rebellion, Johanna?"
"Exactly."
"You really think it can be done?"
"Already worked in 7."
"Really? That's what happened?"
"Yes, that was us."
"Impressive," he admitted.
"So do you want to help?" Kawino asked.
"What can I do?"
"Help free 3 first of all but we can use your help back at our base."
"Your base?"
"Yeah, we have a base."
"Okay, but I want to see faces."
"Okay but you're not going to recognize us from anywhere." Kawino took off his own mask and hood first.
"You're right I don't."
"There's only seven people in existence who would. Four of which are here right now. Basically, my name is Kawino Yetter, I'm 15, I'm from District 2, and I'm the leader of the rebellion."
"Interesting," Beetee said. "How could it only be seven though?"
"I didn't get out much. At all actually, besides for Reapings."
"That's interesting. Why not?" Beetee asked.
"I had, sort of abusive parents. That's over now though," he adds quickly.
"Okay?" Beetee said still clearly curious.
"You're a victor. Picture every aspect of the Games first-hand, non-stop for twelve years."
"That sounds horrid actually." He admitted
"It was but I came to realize that that's exactly what it was: the Games. Therefore, it's not their fault. It's the Capitol's. Everything they did: the constant training, the beatings, the starvation, the sleep deprivation, even the insults; was because of the Games; they just went drastically overboard."
"Oh, I see," he said.
"Yeah, so that's why I'm here, doing what I'm doing."
"That makes sense."
"You in then?"
"Well I don't know how much help I can be but yes."
"What's the plan here in 3?" Beetee asked.
"We need to strike at what they already hate."
"Producing the electronics without getting any?"
"Exactly all the work you all do for them but they don't let you have any of the gains."
"So, use that to rally the citizens?"
"As a starting point yes."
"I think that could work."
"Will you help us?"
"Yes, I will."
"Thank you, Beetee," Johanna said.
"What do you need me to do?"
"Tell me where the best place to make a statement is."
"The main factory would work best."
"Okay."
"Where is that?"
"Downtown, as we call it."
"Could you show us the way?" Kawino asked, putting back on his mask and hood.
"Sure I have something I need to get from there anyway."
"Lead the way." He nodded and led the way out into the bright city.
