Continuation of Scene #3 – Transfixed

ALVIN startles a bit, seeing a shadow hovering over him. He slowly looks up with blurry eyes to see the person's frame standing in front of him.

His heart skips.

SIMON idly adjusts his glasses.

Simon: (lets out a shaky sigh) "Hey, Alvin."

ALVIN doesn't respond, just blinks innocently up at SIMON.

A beat of silence follows.

Simon: (takes a deep breath, clears throat) "I-I just…w-wanted to apologize for yelling at you like that earlier…"

Alvin: (eyes widen in surprise) "Y-you don't…hate me?"

Pursing his lips solemnly, SIMON sits down beside ALVIN on the floor and places his hand on ALVIN's shoulder.

Simon: "I could never hate you, Alvin. You're my brother."

Alvin: (glances at Simon) "B-but…what about the…kiss?"

SIMON feels something surges through him at how soft ALVIN's voice gets.

Simon: (blushes slightly) "W-what about it?"

Alvin: "W-well…" (sniffs) "Theodore tricked you into thinking I was a girl, and I kinda went along with it. And we…k-kissed…"

SIMON bites his lower lip, contemplating if he should just simply laugh off the whole "Alysen from Pennsylvania" joke and forgive and forget, or tell ALVIN that he actually really does have a crush on him.

He gently gives the dress-clad chipmunk's shoulder a squeeze in preparation.

He decides to go for the latter.

Simon: (voice distant) "Alvin…"

ALVIN looks at him, blue eyes glistening from the previous tears.

Simon: "You—" (breathes in, exhales, looks at Alvin sincerely) "You know I've always loved you as a brother for a long time, right?"

ALVIN nods slowly.

SIMON's heart stutters.

Simon: "Well…w-would you still like me i-if I loved you…m-more than just a brother?"

ALVIN's eyes slightly grow wide at the question as relief washes over in a huge, comforting wave. A small smile forms upon his lips before he's holding SIMON's hand in his.

Sparks resonate between the touch.

Alvin: "Yeah, I'd be okay with that. But…w-would you still like me if I loved you more than just a brother?"

Simon: (smiles) "Yes."

They stare at each other blissfully for a little while until SIMON gives ALVIN a quick kiss on the cheek, and they both blush a deep rosy pink, their smiles broadening.

ALVIN hugs SIMON and rests his head on the taller boy's chest. SIMON hugs him back, snuggling the side of his face in the shorter boy's hair.

Simon: (lightly teases) "I love you, 'Alysen.'"

Alvin: (chuckles) "I love you, too."

They stay wrapped within each other's arms for a little longer, loving the warmth and butterflies.

A random janitor: (grumpily) "What are you two doing in the hall? GET BACK TO CLASS!"

ALVIN and SIMON jolt at the tone and get up to quickly run back to the library where MRS. LOWE's class is still being held.

THEODORE is the first to see his brothers come back into the library holding hands and looking a lot happier than earlier. THEODORE walk-runs up to them and grins.

Theodore: (clasps his hands together, hopeful) "You guys made up?"

Alvin: (smiles and nods) "Yeah." (shrugs unsurely) "And I guess we're a couple now."

Theodore: (looks between the two) "You guys really do like each other?"

ALVIN and SIMON looks at one another for reassurance before nodding with shy blushes.

THEODORE just blinks twice, shrugging lazily with his hands on his hips.

Theodore: "Well, I guess I'll have to get used to it." (considers in second thought) "But what will Dave think about this?"

Alvin: "…I dunno."

Theodore: (lets out a light laugh) "Well, it is kinda cute, though."

Simon: (gives thumbs up) "Thanks, Theodore."

Alvin: (suddenly remembering his unfinished homework) "Simon, will you still do all the work?"

Simon: (rolls his eyes fondly, sighs) "Fine."

SIMON hums a laugh as he looks down at ALVIN as if he was the most beloved thing ever.

Which he is in SIMON's eyes.

Simon: "The things I do for love…"

ALVIN twirls, his baby pink dress flaring up and hair flowing freely with his movements.

SIMON silently guffaws and THEODORE openly admires.

Alvin: "Y'know, Theo." (smirks playfully) "I kinda do look pretty in this dress, don't I?"

THEODORE shakes his head at his silliness.

SIMON agrees eagerly with a 'yes'.
