Chapter 4: Mayhem in the forest part 3 (final part) Cause and Effect
(Previous)
Yukio covered his face with one hand and looked at the ground
"You're not the one who screwed up, I am." Yukio thought.
Yukio sighed in irritation. He rubbed his temples with his free hand while Shiemi was treating the wound on his shoulder.
"Rin looked really upset." Shiemi stated, a look of concern on her face. "It makes me feel like a failure as a friend."
Yukio looked up at shiemi. When he looked at her face he could have sworn that he saw tears forming in the corners of her emerald green eyes. Shiemi seemed to notice them and wiped the tears away with one of her hand. "Rin, he's hurting, just like you Yuki-chan." Shiemi stated as more tears began to form. Yukio just stared completely surprised. How was she able to tell that he was hurting? He hadn't even said anything to her.
Yukio then thought about the look on his older brother's face when he left. That downcast look like a veil covering his face. Yukio never realized that Rin still blamed himself for their father's death. Yukio had also blamed Rin for their father's death, but in actuality he blamed himself. If only I had come in time, if only I had stayed with father, if only I had been with Rin, if only…if only. There were several "if only" that came to mind after Father Fujimoto had passed away.
The younger twin only knew one thing at this moment, if he didn't go and help his brother right away there would be another "if only" added to his list.
(Meanwhile with the bon….)
"Hey Bon, do you even know where you're going?" Shima inquired.
"Of course I don't! But it shouldn't be that difficult to locate the stupid blue monkey just look for the blue light. It should be bright enough to locate."
"Oh I get it!" Shima laughed uneasy.
"Seriously Shima sometimes you are slow." Konekomaru stated. Shima just scratched the back of his head.
"Even so I think it'll be kind of difficult to find him. I mean look at the size of this forest it's huge!"
"That's true." Bon agreed.
The group stopped and looked around. "Damn it! If teach had chosen the same exact location as last time it might've been easier to find him." Bon cursed under his breath.
There was a scurrying noise and the three teen turned toward the noise. Out of a nearby bush came Kuro.
"Hey isn't that Okumura's familiar?" Konekomaru asked. The black two tailed cat walked in front of Konekomaru and started meowing frantically.
"Come on! Hurry! Rin's in danger!"
The teens just stared at the cat. Kuro was acting like he was going mad.
"Uhhh! I forgot they can't understand me. Fine! I'll lead them to you. Rin."
Kuro hissed and moved his head in the direction he wanted them to follow. Then he darted off. The teens just looked at each other.
"What do you think? Maybe he knows where Okumura is." Koneko stated.
"Well he is Okumura's familiar." Shima stated matter-of-factly
"It's worth a shot. C'mon lets follow him." Bon sighed scratching his head in an irritated manner.
With that the teens also darted off further into the forest.
It wasn't maybe more than a few minutes later that the group caught a glimpse of a blue flash of light then it flickered a few times then started to dim.
"Dammit we need to hurry!" Bon yelled.
Bon, Shima, and Konekomaru followed the blue light to an opening where there they saw Rin laying on the ground nearly unconscious. His eyes were partly open. He had scratches all over and was bleeding in a few places but surprisingly enough he wasn't too bad. He just looked exhausted. Spent.
Konekomaru and Shima ran over to him to check on him. He was flat on his stomach. Each movement he made made him feel like a ton of bricks were strapped to his back. While the young bald headed monk and the pink haired Shima helped him they all of a sudden they heard a loud laugh.
"Oh come on, is this all the son of Satan has to offer? What a waste."
"Fuck You!" Rin yelled. His flames roared to life. His friends took a step back to avoid being burnt. He forced himself off the ground. Every movement crying "stop!" Then for some unknown reason his brilliant blue flames started flickering and dimming almost immediately.
"What the hell?!" Rin cursed. He fell straight back to the ground.
"Sorry. Did I play too rough?" the unknown voice laughed maniacally.
Rin was unable to move almost like gravity was preventing him from standing up. The force was becoming greater threatening to completely consume him. It pulled him so hard that he could feel the ground beneath him caving in. His bones felt like they were cracking.
The ground started to uproot and sink down creating a huge sinkhole.
Rin's friends all grabbed him and kept yanking at him trying to pull him to solid ground but with no avail. It took most of Kuro's strength in his huge cat form to pull him up.
"Master you should know not to underestimate a cat sithe's strength." The earth king Amaimon laughed appearing next to the other figure. The two seemed to be denying the laws of gravity and were just floating in mid- air.
"Haha. I guess you are right earth king." The weird shadowed figure laughed.
The group just stood there speechless and frankly confused.
Suguro was the first to speak.
"Who the hell are you!?"
"That's the demon lord Leviathan" Shura cut in, appearing right next to the exwires.
"Kirigakure-sensei?" the group stated. Everyone except Rin who got used to unexpected surprises by his crazy female mentor.
"Rin, ya' look like hell as usual!" Shura looked over to Rin with a look that said im-not-the-least-bit-surprised-that-you-got-hurt-and-are-still-alive. To Shura since training with Rin always resulted in some pretty screwed up injuries usually inflicted by her. So it had come as no surprise that he was messed up right now. What was surprising though was the opponent he was fighting.
Going up against Leviathan was like asking for a death sentence. Surely even the son of Satan wouldn't come out unscathed. But for some unknown reason that seemed to be the deal. Rin didn't look like he had been injured at all any injuries he had probably already healed but the young teen seemed completely out of breath, exhausted, and about ready to drop dead at any given second. This couldn't have just been the work of Leviathan it had to be something else entirely different.
"Nice to see you too sensei." Rin huffed sarcastically bringing Shura out of her thoughts.
Rin was far too tired to think of any insults to shoot at his teacher with the big breasts and inappropriate fashion statement.
Something didn't sit well with him though.
He was laying against one of the unfallen trees that had missed the sinkhole. Kuro close at hand in case anyone thought of hurting Rin again. Even as a small as Kuro was he could still do some damage. He hissed threateningly and Rin put his hand on the little black cat's head and scratched his ears.
"It's okay Kuro, I'll be fine." Rin smiled weakly at his familiar stroking him. The little cat just jumped into his lap and curled up.
No one is going to hurt "my Rin." Kuro purred.
Rin just chuckled.
He looked up noticing that some people were still missing. There was Shura, Suguro, Shima, Konekomaru, and Kuro but…
"Where's eyebrows, Shiemi, and four eyes?" Rin asked.
Shura looked around and noticed the same thing.
"I dun'know I thought they'd were with you." Shura shrugged her shoulders. "I'm sure they'll be okay. They are probably with ol' four eyes back at camp." With that said Shura withdrew her sword from the red tattoo on her chest and held it ready to fight at any moment.
The figure now identified as the demon lord leviathan laughed. A huge maniacal smile plastered across his face.
"Oh don't worry about them, my familiar is playing with them right now."
"Oh well, I'm not worried." Rin stated simply laying his head against the tree.
"Huh? Have you smacked your head? Were you dropped on your head as a child?" Bon yelled. "Teach and everyone is up against one of Gehenna's strongest familiars."
"Yeah but I believe in my brother's strength. He's not some little snot nosed kid. He is strong. How do you think he became an exorcist at such a young age? How do you think my little brother became our teacher?" the man who raised us was a paladin. Father Fujimoto was the one who taught my brother to shoot. I believed in my father and I believe in my brother now."
"Damn Rin. That's probably the most shocking thing I've ever heard out of your mouth." Shura chuckled. She positioned her sword in a samurai style.
"Whatever." Rin stated, eyes partially open.
"Listen Rin, I know you are tired but I need you to help fight."
Rin scratched the back of his head. "Yeah, about that…" Rin didn't get to finish his sentence he was interrupted by the obnoxious Leviathan's fit of laughter.
"Do you not get it? Your brother is dead. By now my serpent has devoured your beloved brother."
"Fuck you!" everyone turned to see Yukio Okumura standing pointing his gun at the hovering figure.
"Yukio! Am I gunna have to get you a swear jar now?" Rin chuckled but then cringed. Pain racking at his frame.
"You really are useless nii-san, you've managed to nearly kill yourself again and on top of that I see you still haven't got your scabbard." Yukio huffed in annoyance.
"Whatever four-eyes." Rin rolled his eyes.
"Scabbard? Oh you mean this?" leviathan chuckled. Holding Rin's scabbard. In his left hand and Kurikara in the other.
"What the hell? When did he take Kurikara?" Bon yelled.
"It must've been when Okumura was nearly sucked into the sinkhole" Konekomaru stated. A look of worry present on the young monk's face.
"Let's see what this does." Leviathan chuckled sheathing and unsheathing Rin's sword. "I see the sheath is like a gate opening and closing." Leviathan kept fiddling around with the sword causing Rin's ears to elongate then get shorter and his flames flicker like crazy. Unfortunately Rin was too tired to fight it.
"Knock it off ya damn snake!" Shura yelled slashing her sword at Leviathan. "I'll be taking that back!
Leviathan finally unsheathed it then threw the scabbard away which was devoured by another serpent familiar that burst out of the ground. "I think I'll keep this for now." He stated after the serpent swallowed the scabbard.
"Damn!" Yukio mentally cursed. Yukio loaded bullets into his gun and fired continuous rounds which seemed to go right through the demon lord almost like he was transparent.
"Sorry I forgot to tell you this isn't my real body." Leviathan laughed.
Leviathan then turned to Rin and smiled evilly. "You know, I've heard a weird rumor that your demon heart is contained within this blade I wonder how true it is."
"Don't!" Rin heard someone say. He was losing consciousness so he wasn't able to hear clearly.
Leviathan took the sword in his right hand and with the other he flicked the sword extremely hard to the point that it vibrated.
Rin screamed. He clutched his chest and huffed violently like he was losing his breath. His ears started ringing probably from the sound and vibration.
Whatever leviathan had done to Rin's sword Rin felt it as his own pain.
"I see. So it is true. Well then there's no point in me keeping it. It would spoil the fun if I always had the upper hand." Leviathan threw the sword into a river nearby. "I think I've had my fun for now, let's go earth king."
"Yes master." Amaimon stated before disappearing too.
Everyone sighed in relief except for Rin who was still having a hard time breathing. With the mix of the pain in his chest and loud ringing echoing in his ears he was having a hard time figuring out what hurt worst.
Rin clasped his hands over his still elongated ears trying to stop the ringing. The flames on his head seemed to gradually be getting smaller but the flame on his tail still burned brightly.
"Rin!" Yukio yelled running over to his brother. Shura was on the other side of Rin helping him up to sit up straighter to allow air into his lungs.
"Suguro! Go get Rin's sword." Yukio called to the three teens.
"You got it teach." Bon responded. He took off running in the direction of the nearby river. Shima and Koneko following close behind.
Yukio looked at his brother. He wished more than anything that everyone would just leave his brother alone. It was enough being the son of Satan, and being on death roll he didn't need anyone else to cause his brother let alone him any more trouble.
His brother had been through too much that day. Enough was enough. All he knew was that he needed to get Rin back to camp where he could look over Rin's wounds and hopefully with the help of Shiemi fix the problem.
(Meanwhile with Shiemi and Izumo…..)
Shiemi was sitting on ground next to her tent looking at her reflection in a plastic bottle and placing it next to her head. She hoped that the coolness of the bottle would distract her from all the worry and mixed feelings that she was having just sitting there unable to do anything.
Izumo was pacing around almost like she was lost. She knew it would do her no good but she also felt a little on edge. After the huge serpent had nearly destroyed their barrier she felt uneasiness like that was just the beginning of something bigger. And what was up with her teacher? She had never seen him so desperate before. She knew that he was worried about his big brother but the way he was acting was so unlike him. It almost seemed like he was terrified of something. Of what? She had no idea.
"Um Kamiki? Do you think Rin and Yuki-chan are okay." Shiemi finally said.
Izumo was brought out of her thoughts and she stared at the blonde haired girl. She could clearly see how worried she was. She knew that petty words would mean nothing to the young tamer.
"Those two are too stubborn to die. I doubt they even know how to." Kamiki Izumo smirked. This seemed to brighten the blonde's mood a bit.
"You're right." Shiemi smiled.
(Meanwhile with Suguro…)
"This sucks man. Sucks with a capital SUCKS!" Shima stated waste down soaking wet. "This gives a whole new meaning to wetting your pants."
"Shima, seriously quit complaining. Now are you going to help us look or not?" Bon stated wading around in a river.
"Sure cause you know how easy it is to find a sword when its pitch black outside, in a river where there are snakes and ugh! Bugs." Shima shivered thinking about the possibilities of bugs.
"Shima now would be a good time to push your phobia to the side and help. Okumura needs us." Konekomaru stated. His sleeve were rolled up and the water came up to his chest.
Shima stood on the shore still partially wet from Bon and Koneko splashing around trying to find the sword.
"God, it would have been so much easier if it wasn't so damn dark outside or if Teach had given us a glow stick or something."
"Don't worry Bon, the sun should be coming up soon." Koneko tried to brighten the mood.
"Yeah, but how long do you think Okumura can last without his sword, I mean that demon asshole said that Kurikara has Okumura's demon heart contained within it. And the sword is usually ablaze, what happens if it gets wet?"
"Good point." Everyone agreed.
(Meanwhile with Shura, Yukio, and Rin…..)
Shura was now carrying Rin in bridal style with Yukio following close by. "ya know, ya should've gave the brats a flashlight or something, they'll be at it for hours.
"Yeah, well unfortunately everything is back at camp and dropped some supplies when we were attacked.
"Always plan ahead" Shura laughed.
"Says the 26 year old drunkard who watches people from trees and doesn't help whatsoever. " Yukio rolled his eyes.
"Hey I have a reputation to uphold." Shura joked.
Rin groaned. He tried to open his eyes but they kept wanting to shut.
"Hey sleeping beauty, mind waking up so I can set you down, yer damn heavy."
Rin groaned again.
This time the fire headed Shura let go of Rin and he hit the ground with a loud thump.
"Shura!" Yukio cried.
Rin groggily opened his eyes and tried to stand. Yukio helped him to his feet. "What happened?" Rin asked rubbing his eyes like a little kid.
"What? Do ya have brain damage now?"
"You did basically throw him on the ground." Yukio stated.
"Is everyone okay?" Rin asked.
"Everyone is fine. Nii-san we need to get back you back to camp the others will catch up."
"Kuro, can you lead Bon and the others back?" Rin asked the little black cat sithe.
"Yes Rin. I can." Kuro said telepathically.
"Where's my sword?" Rin grumbled. He was barely standing being supported only by his brother
"Don't worry Rin, the brats are looking for it they will find it." Shura tried to sound reassuring.
"They won't find it. Not as dark as it is. I need to show them where it's at." Rin mumbled incoherently.
"Can you even do that?" Shura asked looking at the drained teen.
"If I can cleanse a mountain of miasma then I don't see why I couldn't." Rin stated. He was huffing still and beads of sweat were forming on his face.
Yukio looked like he wanted to protest and so did Shura except she gave in."I guess it's worth a shot, just don't overdo it."
Rin chuckled. The group stopped for a second. Yukio let go of Rin. Then at that moment the blue flames burst to life on Rin's head and on his tail around Rin. Off to the left of their location was shining blue light.
(Meanwhile with bon…)
Just when the exwires were about to give up hope all of the sudden just inches from bon the water started to glow a light blue color.
"What the hell?" bon yelled backing away from it.
"Think that's it?" Shima stated sarcastically.
"Yeah that's it." Bon still reluctant reached down under the water and picked up the glowing sword.
Konekomaru and bon both sighed in relief.
"Why do you think the sword glowed like that suddenly?" Konekomaru asked. Both were drenched with water bon to the waist and Konekomaru to the chest.
"I don't know but I have a good idea why." Bon stated looking back towards the forest where a faint blue light could be seen.
"I think I know what you mean." Shima said also looking at the forest.
"This has been a real shitty day." Bon stated simply, closing his eyes and scratching the back of his head in an irritated manner.
