Sorry for being late! Hope you enjoy!

"Love is blind." "Love is blind." "Love is blind?" The three words rambled in Jenni's mind all throughout the rest of summer and into the beginning of December of a new year in Hogwarts. Despite the numerous times she interpreted the words, there was no avail in comprehending the seemingly cryptic words Albus said to her. She assumes it has to the with her relationship with Brendan, but then again, a part of her isn't convinced Brendan has any role in the 'love is blind' equation. How can three simple words make her feel so stupid?

Jenni's sixth year potion class is learning and writing a report on Amortentia and Melanie is ever so kind so point out the irony between the lesson and Jenni's current situation. In the meantime, the two girls sit by the fire in the empty common room finishing their Amortentia assignment with the clock nearing 12.

"So Jenni," Melanie says seeing her best friends stumped expression, "any luck in solving your little love puzzle?"

Without glancing up from her parchment, Jenni asks, "Are you talking about the assignment or the words?" Melanie shoots her an exasperated stare.

"Hmmm… let me see? It could be the assignment - seeing as we are going to smell the potion tomorrow and discuss what smells attract us. Then again, the words do seem like another possibility considering it is all you talk about lately!"

Jenni startles at the sound of Melanie raising her voice, "Mel! Lower your voice, I'm trying to work!"

Melanie looks at her, shocked, "Lower my voice? Lower my- Jenni you cannot be this oblivious! It's right in front of you for Merlin's sake!"

Steam seems to be coming out of Jenni's ears, fitting her angered red face, "Alright I've had it! Is that all anyone has to say to me nowadays? 'It's right in front of you Jenni?' 'You're being so naïve Jenni!' 'Love is blind, Jenni.' Just tell me what the hell I'm not seeing for goodness sakes!"

Just as the portrait door swung open Melanie yells furiously, "It's James you're not seeing!"

"What about me is who not seeing?"

While Jenni stares motionlessly at James, Melanie is stuttering to improvise what she just blurted out. "Umm well… what Jenni's not seeing is… umm... how badly you need to get your haircut! I mean c'mon! Have you looked in a mirror lately? I'm worried some owl will fly by and make a nest in your messy hair!" she says hyperbolically.

"Gee, thanks for putting that in such a sweet, gentle, and compassionate way," he replies sarcastically.

"Well, if I didn't, I would not be me," she retorts, noticing Jenni hasn't stopped looking at James. James realizes it too and tries to brush his hair down, "You okay there Jen?"

"Huh? O me! Umm, yeah…definitely," she says with little confidence in what she was replying to.

"Alright then, I'm off to bed, and since the weekend's coming up soon, maybe you could give me a haircut since you're more… skilled than Mel is in that area."

"Now who's the sweet, gentle, and compassionate person?" Melanie sassily asks.

"Not you!" He quips with his signature smirk, causing Jenni's eyes to twinkle. "Goodnight!" And with that, he ran up the stairs to his room.

Melanie sighs and looks back at Jenni, observing how her friend gazes after James running up the stairs. "Now do you see?"

Jenni sighs with a small laugh, "I do. But, I wish I didn't."

"Why's that?" Melanie asks curiously.

"I'm with Brendan," she says incredulously.

"You're point being?"

"I can't just break up with him now that I know James likes me."

"Sure you can!" Melanie looks at her with sympathy, "Sweetie, that look you were giving him, I've never seen it that intense. Even though you've been with Brendan for three and a half months, you've never looked at him in that way."

"I don't know. It's not right… it's not me," Jenni contemplates.

"Maybe not. After all, you've only known about James liking you for two minutes."

"Exactly!" Jenni says.

"Well, I'm here if you want to talk about Brendan versus James," Melanie says reassuringly.

"There's no 'Brendan vs. James' Mel. Just 'Brendan'," she replies with a small smile.

Melanie gives her a long, deep stare, finally saying softly, "The only person I think you're trying to convince with those words is yourself." While leaving Jenni to ponder with the piercing words she spoke, she goes off to bed. "Try not to stay up too late analyzing."

"Sure," Jenni says staring off, with feelings of hollowness, "Now I see."
