Continuation of the flashback...
Nathan was pacing up and down the hallway at the Tree Hill Memorial hospital. He was so worried and distracted about Haley he had yet to talk to any of their family. He just really wanted to see his Haley and make sure she was alright. He couldn't hear the other people in the room as they discussed what they had all witnessed that day.
"How come no one's come to talk to us?" Lucas asked his mom, Karen.
"I don't know, honey." She replied.
"Someone really needs to talk to Nathan. He's gonna pace a line in the flooring if he doesn't stop soon." Brooke said to no one in particular.
"Luke, maybe you should. You are his brother after all." Karen told her son.
"I just feel so helpless. I really don't think anyone including me will be able to talk any sense into Nathan right now." Luke told his mom, watching Nathan pace the hallway.
"Well, shouldn't you at least try?" Peyton questioned her husband as she sat sown next to her best friend, Brooke. She turned to Brooke and asked her instead, "what do you think happened?"
Instead of Brooke answering Karen replied, "Haley has been collapsing lately. It's happened twice already."
"Wow. Really? You'd think she would've told me about this," Lucas started. "After all I am her best friend."
Everyone was lost in their own thoughts and what they thought was wrong with Haley.
"You all here for Haley Scott?" Everyone, including Nathan, turned to the bearer of the voice. It belonged to an older male doctor. He had a friendly face and demeanor.
"Yes, I'm her husband." Nathan answered as he practically ran to the doctors side. "How is she? What's wrong with her?"
"Nathan, calm down and let him talk." Karen spoke softly from behind him, getting up from her spot in the waiting room. She reached Nathan's side and put a reassuring hand on his arm before looking at the doctor and silently asking him to go on.
"Well, we've done some tests, which are all clean. There are others that are going to take a few hours for the results to come back. She will have to stay here over night, as well as the next few days, maybe even longer depending on what we find in the labs."
'But what is wrong with her?" Lucas was the one to ask the one question on everyone else's mind.
"As of now, we have no clue. I am sorry to say that but we should know more in a couple hours." And with that final word he turned to leave.
There was silence as everyone processed the words. Something was definitely wrong, that was for sure. But what was it? The doctors didn't know, so what could it be?
Karen broke the silence, "Well I know you're upset Nate, so I think I will go back to your house and pack up all the food. If that is okay with you? It's not as if anyone's gonna want to eat right now, anyway."
Nathan stared at her as if she was from another planet. He looked down at the hand on his arm, offering comfort and was released from his depression. "Oh, I totally forgot the food. Was there something in the oven still?"
"The turkey. But I got it out before we all rushed here." She finished before Nathan had the chance to worry about it. She knew how stressed he was with Haley in the hospital.
Karen gave Nathan one last hug and walked over to her own son. "We'll talk about your news later. Just come on by." And with that final word to him she walked to the doors that led to the parking lot.
... A few hours later ...
Nathan could feel something pulling on his arm. He thought it might be Haley. "Haley go back to sleep. Just give me a little longer." He whispered out, still keeping his eyes shut.
"Nathan. Nathan, it's Brooke. You need to wake up. The doctors here." Nathan heard a raspy voice breathe out.
He opened his eyes wide, remembering where he was. "Okay, okay. I'm up." He stretched out of the chair he was asleep in just moments before. He raced from his spot to stand in front of the doctor. It was the same one as before. But this time he had an envelope, open in his hands and a grave expression on his face.
"Mr. Scott, I have some news for you. From your wife's lab results we can see that she may have some type of what we call Anemia."
"And what is that doctor?" Brooke asked of him. Nathan couldn't ask.
"It is an abnormal decrease of red blood cells. As of right now, we don't know what type but I believe it is Hemolytic Amenia." The doctor directed what he was saying towards Nathan.
He was still trying to process what he had heard.
"How serious is this?" Brooke asked again.
"It is very serious. Right now we are just waiting for Haley to wake up. She hit her head when she fell."
"So, is she in a coma?"
Nathan tuned out. He was trying to breath in and out. One thing did register in his mind 'they were waiting for Haley to wake up.' So he asked, not caring whether he was interrupting Brooke or the doctor, "Can I see her? Maybe if I talk to her she'll wake up?"
The doctor turned from his conversation with the young brunette woman to look at the man standing heartbroken in front of him. "Well, I'm not supposed to let anyone in to see her yet, but..." he began. "if I were to just say that she was in room 110 right down that hallway and remain a bit distracted, I couldn't see any problem with someone taking the initiative and sneaking in."
"Oh, thank you doctor...?"
"Remney. Doctor Erich Remney."
Nathan walked away down the hall that Dr. Remney had pointed at a moment before. He looked for the room number 110. At last he found it. He sprinted to the door and walked inside. Once he had closed the door to the room, he turned to look at his wife, his beautiful wife. She looked quite peaceful in slumber, like she expected to wake up in their bed any minute, like nothing was wrong. But he knew nothing would ever be the same.
I know pretty much a filler chapter, but there you go... it is up. I proofread it this time. There still might be some mistakes. But most are fixed. And sorry for the shortness.
Anyways, back to present day and time in next chapter and then I might add in some about what is going on with Haley at the end of it.
I hope you all like this. I just wanted to let those of you who read this story that I was looking at the views in the traffic graph portion for this story and it said that there was no one who read chapter 2. SO I urge you to go and read that chapter. It might've been just for the month of May but I am not sure.
Thank you for you time... Reviews help me feel inspired!
