Rose watched from the side lines as the Slytherin team entered the pitched and the crowd roared. She sat down on a bench with Andrew O'dair; the other Slytherin substitute. Most of the school had turned up for the first game of the year and the place was buzzing. Next the Ravenclaw team entered and again the crowd roared as Levi Adams led his team. Rose could see Lysandar, flying with the Ravenclaws, doing the 'you're going down' action to Scorpius and Charlie who were laughing together. James and Levi came forward and shook each other's hand, while the teams got into positions.
The whistle blew and the quaffle, bludgers and snitch were released and Carmen Bishop, a Ravenclaw chaser went straight for the quaffle, making James flying right after her. The quaffle was then sent to Lysandar and then to Ellis Bailey, the last Ravenclaw chaser. He then sent it right back to Lysandar who sent it past Charlie and into the left hoop.
"It hasn't even been a minute and Ravenclaw had already got a goal! This is going to be an interesting game."
James shouted at the top of his voice for everyone to focus. He put an arm on Charlie's shoulder and then flew away to start the game again. Within the next few minutes Ravenclaw scored three times. Rose just watched as Ravenclaw scored another and sighed; this was going to be a long game.
-Line breaker-
Rose ran to Scorpius and hugged him, before hugging Charlie too. The changing room was filled with cheers and laughs. The first game of the year and Slytherin started it off with a win. The score was 220:360 when Mike Harris caught the snitch and Slytherin won by just ten points; it was so close but they'll take. A win is a win, whether it is 370:360 or 1000:0.
That night they partied in the Slytherin common room and went wild. James had managed to sneak a bit of alcohol which he soaked up most of. Roxanne and a few other's gate crashed; mostly for the alcohol. Rose, not really being the partying type, left early to go to her room and read a bit before bed. She was just about to tuck in when Erwin, Rose's owl, flew into the room and dropped a small letter onto her lap. She grabbed a treat from under her bed and fed it to Erwin as she read it.
She jumped up and ran to the common room. She waved her arm around until she got Scorpius's attention and ushered him over to her.
"What's up Rose?"
"My first task's next week."
-Line Breaker-
Rose took a deep breath and finished putting on her hoodie; she always felt more comfortable in muggle clothing. Today was the day; today was her first task. She slipped her wand into her pocket and left to go into the Slytherin common; which was filled with people. As she walked in a chorus of 'Good luck Rose!' 'Knock them dead' and other well wishes were said. James and Scorpius pushed people out the way and created a path for her to walk through, almost like she was royalty.
As Rose weaved her way through the school building the crowd dispersed to run ahead and get good seats. The event would take place in the quidditch pitch and so Rose continued to make her way towards there. However before she reached outside, Professor Longbottom arrived.
"Ah Rose, I was just looking for you, you need to come with me to the champions' tent for the brief." Rose just nodded and followed him; she was too nervous to say anything. Rose wasn't expecting all to this to happen so quickly and there was also a small amount of regret. Now that it came to it, Rose wasn't so sure she wanted to do this anymore but she had after all signed a contract the moment her name shot out of the Goblet.
"Alright, champions gather over here. You'll be apparated to your places which will different places for all of you. The rules will be said right before the task starts. Good luck," said Jefferson, the Head of the Department of International Magic Cooperation. Each Headmaster and mistress took the arm of their own champion and apparated into the middle of what looked like a town. There were buildings everywhere, market places and shops. Rose looked around but she couldn't see anyone around apart from Professor Longbottom who whispered a 'good luck' and disapparated.
"Welcome ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls to the every first task of the Triwiard tourment. The rules to this task is simple, each time a champion hits another champion with a spell they get a point and the champion that gets hits is transported to another place in this arena. The task will go on for 20 minutes. Simples. But what's a task without a twist, so just make sure to watch your backs." Toadsnuff, the Head of the Department of Games and Sports, chuckled.
"Good luck Champions and may the task begin."
Rose took a deep breath; this was it. This is her chance. She looked behind her, to her left and to her right, trying to figure out which way to go. Left. Her instincts say left and so she turned and went down an alley to her left. She pulled out her wand, ready for whatever she may have to face. Well almost ready. Rose could feel the ground beneath her quake. Thud, thud, thud, thud. It sounds like a giant running and Rose knew it couldn't be good. That's when it came running around the corner. On the plus side it wasn't a giant, on the not so plus side it was a dragon. Rose stood staring for a few seconds, too shocked to even move. When they said twists, she wasn't expecting to see a dragon. As soon as Rose managed to regain control of her own body she turned around and ran as fast as she could to where she first started. Not sure where to go, she came to a skidding stop and then turned right and ran.
She could feel the dragon getting closer and closer through the vibrations. She could hear a roar and the air behind her get hotter. She quickly ducked and felt fire shoot right above her, nearly scorching her back and head. Rose could only think of how dead she was, and how early she was in the games. Rose looked around trying to figure out what to do but nothing came to mind; 'If only I was smarter' she thought. Fire, fire, fire... water! Water works against fire and Rose knew the spell to create water. Rose quickly spun around and pointed her word at the dragon.
"Aguamenti!" A large jet of water burst out of her wand and sprayed the dragon that, she realised, wasn't actually that big. When the water stopped spraying she watched the dragon's eyes widen. Rose hoped it was fear but she knew she was wrong.
"Great move Rose-" she whispered to herself "-you made it angrier." She looked at the dragon and was just about to turn and run again until she felt something hit her on her back. The next second she opened her eyes, she found herself in a basement. She must have got hit by Mavis or Dy, and transported here. It's meant to be a bad thing that she got hit but she couldn't help feel a tad grateful now that she didn't have to deal with the dragon.
It took a little while, opening random doors and looking around; trying to get out of the house she was stuck it. But eventually she managed to get out of the maze-of-a house. She decided to go right this time, and set off in a slow jog. It was about a minute later that she heard a loud bang from somewhere ahead of her. Her feet followed the noise; she tried to be as quick as she could. In her hurry she failed to notice plant roots that started to appear along the building and the floor. The plant roots got thicker and thicker as she ran on and eventually she tripped over. Not thinking much of it she brushed of her knees and was about to get up when she felt something grip onto her calves. Rose looked over to see the plant roots winding up her legs. She tried to rip them off but it just gripped tighter. What was this thing?
Devil's Snare. Her mum had taught her about this plant, but she wasn't really listening; Rose wanted to go out and play. Rose relaxed and tried to remember that day as vividly as she could in her head. Something something, relax, something light... Light!
"Lumos!" This time a jet of light sprout out making the tendrils recoil. She slipped through the plant and landed on concrete which hurt. She stood up, brushed herself off and looked around. She seemed to be in connected underground tunnels under the town. Looking around, every tunnel looked the same, with each one leading off with another tunnel on the right, left and straight ahead. Not wanting to waste time thinking anymore, Rose ran straight ahead. She couldn't hear or see much, which meant this place was dangerous; she had to get out of here.
It was only a couple of turns later that she thought she heard footsteps and so Rose went into ninja feet mode. Barely making a noise, she walked towards the muffles sounds. She turned the corner but couldn't see anything until a shadow moved and out of one of the tunnels appeared Dy.
"Confundo," Rose shouted as she pointed her wand at him but he jumped out the way and fired a 'Stupefy'. Rose managed to duck and sent another 'confundo' his way, which hit him this time. Rose sighed happily; her first point, and was thrown slightly off guard when another shadow moved. This time Mavis appeared. A bunch of spells were sent off, which were skillfully dodged.
"Stupefy!"
"Petrificus totalus!"
"Confundo."
"Stupefy," Rose cried, as she tried to jump sideways to get out of the way of a spell Mavis sent, but this time the spell just nicked her and sent her off.
This time Rose found herself in an empty shop with dusty shelves and creaky floorboards. When she walked out when she realised she was on the edge of the town with a hedge all the way around the outside. Looking around she found a tall building and decided to climb it; it'd be easier to locate the other from high up. It took a little while to reach the top but eventually she got there. She could see the whole town, but not clearly the farther she looked. However the stands weren't visible which lead Rose to believe she was in an illusion dome. She continued to look around for a few minutes but she couldn't find them. But just as she about to give up she sure them both emerge on the ground below her which immediately lead to a duel. She looked at around and noticed a large clock which showed that there was literally a minute left. So far Rose had only one point. And so she did the only thing she could think of... she jumped.
