-Katniss Mellark-

You could hear a pin drop in the square. No one dares to breath, as without warning, Peacekeepers swarm the stage and haul Peeta, Haymitch and myself from our seats and into the Justice Building. As the doors slam behind us, all I hear from outside is Prim screaming.

Moments later the doors swing open again, and I see Peacekeepers surround Gale, Effie and Mayislee.

-Mayislee Everdeen-

Effie, Gale and I are hurried into the Justice Building by the waiting Peacekeepers. Effie is pushed to one side as Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch watch from the far side of the room.

The Peacekeepers push Gale and I into a side room together as Effie shouts across the great expanse of the entranceway to inform us that we will have one hour to say our goodbyes.

Gale's mother, Hazelle, and my aunt, Prim and Katniss' mother, Mrs Everdeen, are the first to say goodbye. As my aunt wraps her arms around me she whispers in my ear, "Your parents are furious, but I'm so proud of you." She pulls away and Hazelle takes her place.

In what seems like no time at all, the Peacekeepers are back and hustling Hazelle and my aunt from the room. The door slams behind them.

-Gale Hawthorne-

Prim and Rory are the next to arrive, they burst in through the door and yell thank you before throwing themselves into our arms. May and I link arms and hug them both.

As we pull away from the hug, I look at May and watch the tears stream down her face, knowing that this could be the last time that she gets to hold her cousin in her arms. When Prim sees this, she launches herself back into May's arms and demands to know why May volunteered in her place.

May's answer is simple.

"Because I can't sit around and do nothing when innocent children are being sentenced to death."
