***Long time no read. Sorry for the wait and Thank You for all the fantastic reviews on this story. My computer, Soundwave crashed and I lost all my progress on my stories, but now I have my new one Nightmare and now I'm back to it. Please note, I've changed the way I'm telling this one, so instead of POVs, you'll have just location changes. Hopefully it'll go smoothly, if not let me know I'll change back.
Chapter 4: A Gentle Heart
Warm sunlight passed into the room as the sun rose. Silver felt its warmth fill the room. It felt nice; he never felt anything like this on Astronema's ship before. He looked down at the girl in his arms; she had finally fallen asleep a few hours ago. But it surprised him, even now, that she had curled up to him. He had just scooted to the back of the bed now lying on his back and she was just curled up against his chest, letting him see how small she really was compared to him. As much as it surprised him, he also welcomed it. He never felt such comfort before, till now. Since he met Jade he had started to feel the urge to protect her.
"This must be how the power rangers feel," he thought, "Especially when we attacked all those innocent people."
The sound of Jade's heartbeat suddenly starting to race broke him from his train of thought.
"Good morning," he said gently.
"Morning," Jade said as she looked up at him, only to realize she was laying on him.
"Are you ok? Your heartbeat sounds a little fast," he said lifting his head a little bit to look at her, "That usually indicates fear….among other activities."
"No. I'm just surprised," she said as she started to rise. The feeling of his armor and his leather-like skin felt weird against her bare skin. He suddenly sat up with her, but made sure to have his hand behind her so she wouldn't fall.
"Sorry, but you fell asleep next to me last night, though I think you may of worried yourself to sleep honestly," Silver explained to her, "I didn't want to wake you, so I just slide back with you on your bed. Hope that was ok?"
"Yeah," she said as she slid off his lap and off the bed, "So did anyone come back?"
Silver heard the change in her voice, most likely to change the subject, "No thankfully, though when I was up there Psycho Black's scent was there, but he was not. I think he was just passing through."
"Good, because I 'm not sure I really want to meet them quite yet," Jade said trying to joke a bit as she grabbed some fresh cloths out, blue jeans and a black tank top.
Silver took the hint, before she could say anything and got off the bed and walked over to the banister of the loft and hopped over. Jade stared in shock for a moment, before she rushed over, "Silver!"
"What?" he quickly answered hearing the worry in her voice.
"Are you ok? You just jumped over the banister to the first floor like it was nothing," she asked.
"Yes, I'm fine. No need to worry," he said, "Psycho Rangers are built tough and durable. It makes jumps like that nothing to us."
"I don't know if that's cool or unsettling," she said as she stepped back to change.
Silver laughed a little before he stepped back when he felt something nuzzling his hand. He looked down to see Thor looking back up at him. The big shepherd had his ears down and his tail wagging his tail. When he knelt down to pet the dog, he immediately starting licking the Psycho Ranger's face. It defiantly a surprise at first, but despite that it was defiantly funny.
"I wouldn't try that with my brothers pup, they may not take it as well," he quietly joked with the dog, but he knew it was true.
"He really likes you," Jade's voice spoke up behind him. When he turned he seen her coming down the latter.
"And I like him," he said simply as he stood back up. There was a small moment of silence as they shared a look. Jade took a deep breath before he spoke next, "Well I better get myself something to eat. Do you want any….oops sorry I forgot."
"It's ok," he said, "It's the thought that counts."
"Do you ever get hungry?" she asked, "Out of curiosity."
"I do. I won't lie about that, but if I do well I'm here there won't be a reason to worry. I'll catch myself a rabbit or something," Silver said waiting for her reaction to come. Granite she was more level headed now then she was last night, but he didn't know how she was going to react to learning their diet.
"So you eat meat?" Jade asked as she made herself some toast.
"Basically yes, Red and the others preferred food with more fight so to speak," he said looking off to the side.
"So the rarer the better," she said to herself, until a thought hit her, "What if I go to the store and get some?"
"I don't want to be a bother," he said quickly.
"You saved me yesterday. Meaning I owe you my life, so let me return the favor," Jade told him as she walked back up to Silver, "It's the least I can do."
Silver thought about it for a second, "It would save him the risk or running into the others."
"Alright," he said. Jade smiled at him, before she finished her toast.
"In that case, first things first, we need to find my horses," she said as she slipped her boots on.
"Sounds fair," Silver said, "But we're going to have to be careful."
As they both walked outside they got quite a surprise, both horses were grazing in the front yard; as soon as they walked out both horses perked up.
"Hey there kids, thanks for saving me a heart attack," Jade said as she walked over to them. After she patted them both them on the neck, the big stallion wondered over to Silver.
It defiantly surprised the Psycho for a minute; he was more use to animals running away from him. Jade's laugh caught his attention, "He's waiting for you to acknowledge him."
"Pardon?" he said.
"Warrior is making sure you're ok," she explained, "So he's waiting for you to pet him."
"Oh," he said feeling a bit dumb, yet the big horse allowed him to rub is head before he walked back to the corral with Angel at his side.
"Maybe we'll have to see if he'll let you ride him," she said with a smile.
"I think I'll pass for now," he said.
"Well I'm going to need to head into town to get groceries. Do you want to tag along?" Jade asked.
"No I think I'll stay and see if I can't find the source of the blood smell last night," Silver said his tone turning more serious, "I just want to make sure their not to close."
"Ok," she said, "Just stay safe please."
"You do the same," he said, "They can hide almost anywhere, so watch yourself."
