Chapter Three: Unexpected Things
Sesshomaru wandered for what seemed like hours. He thought it was perspective to stay near the pond but after seeing the temptation there, he decided against it. 'Emi…Wait for me,' he thought before a fog grew around him. Slowly it encased him into its grip. Being in fogs is one thing but in unknown territory can prove to be dangerous. His senses were on high alert as he moved about. He did not miss a single sound or movement like the slithering of a snake, a squeak of a mouse, or a cry of a hawk. Everything started to quiet down after a while and he knew something was wrong. It was on long before a powerful wind blew at him. He stood his ground and waited for the person to reveal himself.
Watching a boulder fly his way, he waited until the last minute to dodge it. Staring into the mist, he focused on any sounds that would give away his attacker. Unfortunately none came. Soon regular sounds resumed, from the chirping of birds to screeching of hawks. Everything returned to normal as if nothing happened. Just as he was about to continue on, an explosion was heard behind him. 'Rin!' he thought before rushing back towards the pond.
Stopping at the familiar spot, he froze at the scene before him. Rin, who was now dressed in a sheer fabric over her body, was being circled by two golden dragons. They were not as big as usual demons were but they could be hiding their full size. Their blood shot eyes glowed eerily as they wrapped around her. She looked terrified as she sought a way out from their trap. "What do you want?" she asked.
Hiding his youki, he watched the interaction of the trio. The bigger dragon replied, "Rin… You know what I want." His yellow scales shown brilliantly in the light rays of the sun as he turned to face her, "Be my mate, Rin.. I can give you everything your heart desire and more…" He insinuated this as his claw pulled the thin fabric from her thin shoulder.
"NO!" she screamed trying to move away from him and pull the fabric closer to her body.
"Rin, you are in no position to deny me!" yelled the dragon. "Be my mate…or suffer the consequences."
"I rather die…" she whispered with tears in her eyes. The small shaking of her shoulders gave off her fear behind the brave words.
The rage was tangible from the dragon as he growled, "So be it!" He raised his claws poising to strike. Rin closed her eyes and held her body tightly waiting for his blow. Instead of feeling excruciating pain that would come when the strike came, she felt wind and then heard a clash of metal. Opening her eyes she saw Sesshomaru standing in front of her taking the blow on his sword. Gasping in shock, she exclaimed "Sesshomaru-sama!"
Sesshomaru looked behind him for a second to acknowledge her before turning his attention back to the offender at hand. "Who are you?" demanded the angry demon.
After pushing the dragon back, he replied, "Lord of the Western lands, Sesshomaru."
"Sesshomaru? This is not your territory. This holy place is under the protection of the Goddess, Machiko. We, dragons, are her allies and grounds keeper…" roared the yellow dragon. Slowly a bright light enveloped his body and from the light a handsome man emerged.
His hair was pure gold and pulled into a high ponytail held by a white ribbon. The once red eyes are now teal in color and irises so deep in color it seems endless. The skin on his face and neck was almost bronze. Slender eyes complimented his long nose and elegant lips. He was dressed in a white kimono that was decorated with deep yellow stripes at the hems and blue water patterns on his sleeves. His armor was similar to Sesshomaru except the shoulder guards were bigger. The sash around his waist was red with blue rectangular patterns at the ends. "I am Hideaki, Lord of the Southern Seas. You are trespassing. Leave peacefully and I will not use force."
Sesshomaru gave a scary smile before his lips open to say, "This Sesshomaru will not."
The blond Lord growled but held his ground. Hunching over the sword on his left hip, he watched in shock as Rin cling to Sesshomaru's left sleeve. Furrowing his brows at the sight, "Very well. Violence it is…" turning towards the beautiful woman, he addressed her. "Rin, step away from him. I do not want to hurt you…"
Sesshomaru raise a delicate brow as he glance down at Rin and to Hideaki. Despite him being actually gentle with his words, she clung harder to his sleeve. Looking at her again, he watched her glaze at him pleadingly. "Please Sesshomaru-sama, do not kill him…"
Noddingly solemnly he blocked another blow from Hideaki. Anger was registered in the other demon's face before Sesshomaru pushed him back again. Rin let go of his sleeve and was running in another direction out of harm's way. Facing the enraged man in front of him, he thought, 'Foolish demon…' Almost as reading his thoughts the dragon demon came at him again.
They matched swing for swing and Rin couldn't help but feel anxious every time they barely dodge a crippling blow. The other dragon that was with Hideaki took human form as well. He, like the other dragon, was handsome. His hair slightly lighter than Hideaki's and tied in a low ponytail. His face was a bit longer with more distinct features. Where Hideaki's eyes were thin, his eyes were slightly bigger and bluer. His nose leads down to a set of thin lips that was frowning at the situation before them. His kimono was white with dark yellow netted stripes with ornamental fan patterns in the corner. It was seen as he crossed his arms while watching the scene. "This is your fault, Rin…"
Rin glared at the other demon and retorted, "How is this, my fault?" waving at the fighter pair in front of them. "Hideaki's the one who can't control his temper."
The other demon looked to the female next to him and observed her. She is an ethereal beauty with long silky hair that fell to her knees. Proclain skin covered her face and body. Seductively tilted chocolate eyes stare forward. Her face, full of worry, was still heart-breakingly beautiful. "When it comes to you, he will never be able to."
Rin turned to look at him quizzically and asks, "Why do you say that?"
He was about to say something until another explosion was heard. Turning their attention back to the oblivious battling demons, they saw dangerous levels of youki blasts emanate from the weapons. Sesshomaru's katana was emanating a dark red light and it clashed into dark blue lights from Hideaki's sword. Noticing the growing light that was eating up everything around them, the dragon demon beside Rin grabbed her and jumped to the skies. Rin and he were amazed at the strength shown by the two but worried for the land that was being destroyed. 'This is not good…' she thought. "Hiromasa, please put me down in between them. We need to stop this before it gets any worst."
The demon, identified as Hiromasa, contemplated her request before shaking his head. "It's too dangerous."
"HIromasa! Your brother will be killed!" she screamed.
Tensing at her words, he nodded.
Hideaki stared at his opponent. It was harder than he thought to defeat him. He felt he was close to his limit but Sesshomaru didn't even seem to break a sweat! Cursing under his breath, he forced his youki harder into his attack. 'Let's see if he can still be passive after this…'
A huge surge of energy pushed out from Hideaki's sword and Sesshomaru frowned. 'Baka…' he thought as he dodged the attack. He closed into Hideaki and raised his sword. Just as he was about to deliver a fatal blow…
"Stop."
Suddenly a form materialized in front of him in a great flash of light. Water, earth, lightening, and fire combined into the light enveloping it in their grasp. Breaking from it stood a lone woman staring blankly at him. A devastating wind forced him back twenty feet as he braced himself on the ground. Cleanching his teeth he looked to her.
The woman stood tall against the bright sun. Her dark hair was piled atop her head. Jewels adorn the elaborate style and a heavy jewel hung from a golden chain on her forehead. A strange silver fabric covered her breast with pearls adorning the ends. Her shoulders and stomach were exposed. Wrapped around her arms was a golden scarf laced with specs of gold. Her legs were covered by a gold and silver fabric. One creamy leg stood exposed to his eyes and on its delicate ankles golden bands hung. Golden jewel embedded bracelets clung to her wrists and forearms as well. From her presence, he knew she was not a simple being. It was too pure and full of life's energy. The air about her seems to radiate power. She was not a demon… She was a God.
Rin ran to Sesshomaru's side and fell to her knees. Checking him for injuries first then turning towards the newcomer. Staring in horror she bowed her head and says, "Machiko-sama…"
The woman identified as Machiko turns to Hideaki. His face held awe and terror. "Machiko-sama," he dropped his sword and bowed. His brother, Hiromasa, bowed bext to him.
"Hideaki…"
"Yes, my Queen," replied the dragon Lord.
"Why have you destroyed my precious land with your callousness?" she asked.
Hideaki visibly shook at her words. Everyone knew she was renowned for punishments. "Machiko-sama, I was fending off an intruder who refused to leave. I beg for your forgiveness."
"Is that true, Hiromasa?" she questioned turning his way.
"Yes, your Majesty."
After addressing the dragon demons, she walked towards Rin and Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru, who was still kneeling from her assault, bowed his head slightly. Rin, on the other hand, rushed to speak. "Machiko-sama…Please let me explain. I was assaulted by Hideaki a while ago and Sesshomaru-sama saved me. He-"
"Enough, Rin." The Queen's cold words were enough to shut up the rest of her story.
Rin bowed again. Machiko faced Sesshomaru to say, "Why are you here on my lands, Sesshomaru, Lord of the Western lands?"
"I seek a cure for my mate," he replied causing Rin to look at him strangely.
"What cure did you need from my lands?" she asked.
"The Sea of Life…"
A pregnant pause followed his response as Machiko observed him. Then she moved towards the middle of the field. White light glowed beneath his feet and quickly the damaged ground was covered. Spinning towards Hideaki and his brother, she ordered, "Hideaki and Hiromasa, you will return to the castle. I will summon you later."
The pair reverted to their dragon forms and flew off immediately. Machiko turns to Rin to speak, "Rin, you are to stay with Sesshomaru. Do not allow him to walk on hollowed grounds. And you, Sesshomaru," he looked at her as she called his name. "I will forgive today's mishap since you saved Rin…" Turning away she beganto disappear as she came. "However, it will not happen again…"
Her voice echoed as the last of her head was seen. The ground showed a great light before fading to the green scenery from before. The The small trinkling of the small waterfall was heard again with lively animal sounds. Rin and Sesshomaru stared as if dazed at the view around them.
