Gryffindor Common Room, Hogwarts, February 1978
The fire crackled and there is the normal low murmur of students chatting through the common room. My legs are curled underneath as I read through my Charms essay on the couch. James rests his back against me while reading over my transfiguration homework. Of course, he had wasted no time in telling me that he'd finished his ages ago. I resist the urge to tangle my fingers in his hair.
I notice James' eyes roam before he turns to me, "We said we'd tell him tonight."
I let out a long sigh before I decide that my charms is as complete and as polished as it's going to get. I stuff my homework in my bag. James leaves me to drag Sirius away from his latest pray, a fifth year girl who bats her eye lashes and pouts when Sirius walks away from her.
Ew.
James leads us out the portrait hole and down the corridor a bit.
"Okay what's this about you two? She was cute and you're ruining it for me!" Sirius whines, stamping his foot.
"You are actually the biggest drama queen I've ever met, Sirius." I tell him, punching his shoulder. He winces, and rubs the spot I hit him.
"Seriously though, what's up?" His eyes dart between James and I, "What's going on?"
I feel James' hand slide down my arm and his fingers curl around mine. I look up at Sirius. His eyes are on our hands.
"Stop." He steps up to James, "If this is you and Lil's idea of some sort of joke, It's not funny."
I see his hands curl into fists. I drop James' hand and step in between them.
"Listen to me Siri," I push him back a few steps, creating distance between him and James, "This isn't some random hook up. We aren't just messing around." I look back at James. His emotions are flashing in his eyes; nervous, scared but strong and calm all at the same.
"Wh- When?" Sirius stammers over his words.
"Christmas." James answers.
"Christmas?!" He looks at me, "You've been keeping this from me for two and a half months!"
"I'm sorry," I step towards him, "We had to know this was real before saying anything."
"And is it real?" He shoots a look at James behind me.
"Yes." I say, my voice blunt and sharp, "I'm in love with him."
"I'm sorry, what?!" Both James and Sirius say at the same time. I take a breathe in and turn to face James.
"I love you." I say to him. He closes the gap between us and presses his lips on mine.
"I love you too." His words wash over me and I relax in his arms.
"Okay. Firstly, never do that ever again. At least, never in my presence. Or anyone else for that matter." Sirius' hands were covering his eyes, "Secondly, I don't care how in love you are with him Lily, if he ever hurts you, I'll kill him."
James laughs, "You'd kill your best mate?"
"Well, maybe not kill you but I will severely hurt you." He looks at me again, "No more secrets?"
"Promise." I hold out my pinky finger to him and wraps his own around it. He pulls me into a hug and presses a kiss into my hair.
"Love you, lil sis."
"Love you too."
Sirius turns away from us and walks back towards the common room without another word.
There is a muffled, TWO MONTHS! As the portrait hole closes.
James' arms are around my waist instantly, "That was relatively painless. A lot smoother then I thought."
He looks down at me, "So, you love me then?"
"Yes." I smile as he presses another kiss on my lips. I wind my arms around his neck to pull him closer. He steps into me and my back hits the wall.
I pull away briefly, "It feels so good to be able to kiss you and not worry if anyone sees us." I reached up to kiss him again.
Great Hall, Hogwarts, February 1978
"So I had a thought," James sits himself beside me, his legs straddle the bench.
I place the Daily Prophet down next to my tea and turn to him, "Are you telling me this because having thoughts are a new thing for you?"
"Ha Ha. Very funny," I wrinkle my noise at him before I turn back to my tea, "No, I was thinking that we should just tell the whole school at once. Quick and easy."
"Oh? And how exactly are you planning to do that?" Before I was able to get an answer out of him, James pulls me up on to the Gryffindor table.
The students begin to look at us, some from the furthest tables away were beginning to point us out, "James. What. The. Fuck. Are. You. Doing?!"
I try to get down but his grip on my wrists tighten.
"HOGWARTS. JUST SO YOU KNOW," he yells to the crowd of students staring at us. His lips crash down onto mine and I vaguely hear cheers and whistle erupt around the hall. James' hands wind around my waist and he pulls me into a dip, his lips still attached to mine.
We break apart. I struggle to catch my breathe.
"I guess thats one way to announce it." A silence falls over the hall. I follow the eyes of many student to the entrance doors. Sirius is standing in the centre of the doorway, Remus and Peter at either side. Peter looks overjoyed, while Remus looks wearily between James and myself, and Sirius.
Sirius' hands curl into fists, just as they did last night.
"Sirius is going to kill us," I say to James. Students within earshot laugh.
"I know," James helps me from the table. We both watch as Sirius begins to get closer and closer to us. I see the anger flashed in his eyes. He's staring directly at James and shaking out his arms.
"Potter! I'm going to kill you!"
I grab James, pull him up and over the table, "RUN!"
