The Weekend Flies With The Wind
It was a boring day, to him that is. Gamiya followed Negi around, falling asleep in half of the classes with him and the rest of the time spent trying to memorize the 3A class roster. Plus, at any time he was in 3A, Evangeline kept giving him dirty looks. Of course, the high priest only looked at her once and spent the rest of the time ignoring her, mostly by napping. This of course, irked her to no end. Eventually, school was over for the day and the sleepy priest found himself in the staff room, going over the student's work while Negi was out.
"Hey, Iroi-sensei. I heard a rumor that there was a sleepy ghost following Negi around," Takamichi said as he took a seat at the table next to him.
"Heh. I guess word gets around. What are they calling me?" he said with a smirk as he turned to the teacher.
"You haven't become famous just yet, not like Nitta-sensei here. He gets called the Ogre," he said while thumbing the rather old looking teacher that had just entered the staff room.
Gamiya yawned and muttered, "When is Negi coming back… he should be doing all this…"
He got up from the chair and went to look out the window, ignoring a chuckling Takahata-sensei. It was then he looked up and saw Negi flying past him. Luckily he flew over the window or all the teachers would have seen him. He just looked on straight ahead, not really believing what he was seeing.
"What the hell is the stupid kid thinking, flying around in public? Is he retarded?" he thought as he took his time to go out of the staff room. Remembering that the kid flew to the back of the building, Gamiya decided to look for him there. He quickly went round the building and looked up. No sign of the boy; he probably stopped flying but why was he in such a hurry that he needed to fly, of all things?
Then, he saw a pillar of light shoot to the sky. Puzzled, he immediately made his way there. Rounding the corner of another building, he found Asuna kneeling on the ground with an unconscious Miyazaki Nodoka (Huh? Is she the local damsel in distress here?) while talking to Negi and some hot dog shaped animal. Getting in closer, he heard the animal telling them some sob story about a sister, ladies underwear and being Negi's pet. The story sounded quite fake to the high priest, but before he could come out and say anything, Negi started crying and said the animal, Chamo-kun, was to be his pet. The high priest narrowed his eyes, not quite believing in the fact that Negi was so easily fooled.
Plus, he silently agreed with Asuna when she said, "A sucker is born every minute."
Gamiya shook his head and decided to leave them alone. He still hasn't finished helping Negi grade his student's papers anyway.
The alarm clock rang loudly; the same one Sister Shakti gave to him. A hand stretched out and turned off the alarm. Groggily, Gamiya got up and made his way to the bathroom. He took a cold shower and brushed his teeth. He put on his clothes again; he had washed the pants and hooded shirt last night and thankfully, it didn't rain. But it was still damp, and yet he didn't care. He would be able to go shopping tomorrow since it would be the weekend. He then put on his gloves, which he had wiped with a damp cloth last night, and went to the main sanctuary. He said his good morning's to the trio at the church and left. He then made his way to Chao Bao Zi to buy some nikuman from the only person manning the mobile stall there, a polite and well mannered student from 3A named Yotsuba Satsuki. He would take a few and walk leisurely to the school while munching on the delicious food.
He had just arrived inside the building when he saw Negi running away from Evangeline and Chachamaru with a scared yell while Asuna and that Chamo-kun chased after him. Evangeline was just about the walk out when he grabbed her by the collar and walked to class with her in tow.
"Eep! Let me down! LET ME DOWN! YOU DARE TREAT ME LIKE THIS!" she yelled at him, shocked stiff that he would actually do this to her. Her face went beet red out of embarrassment.
"Oh shut up, little kid. You are going to class," the high priest said nonchalantly, as if it was the most normal thing for him to do, and continued on his way.
"WHAT! HOW DARE YOU CALL ME LITTLE! I WOULD BLAST YOU TO PIECES IF NOT FOR THIS SEAL!" she ranted at him, now actively struggling against his hold.
"Hmm," he stopped for a moment. For a moment, Eva finally thought he listened and will let her go, but then he said, "Meh," and continued walking.
"HOW DARE YOU! HOW DARE YOU! CHACHAMARU, GET HIM," she finally ordered.
Gamiya didn't think much of that since he was probably much better than a student in a real battle until he caught the vampire's partner flicker past him and stood in front of him.
"Please, Iroi-sensei. Unhand my master," she said in a weird sounding voice.
He just stood there and wondered what would happen if he didn't. Then, he caught sight of her hands and feet. They looked man-made, doll-like even. He tilted his head to the side, still ignoring the struggling vampire.
"So… you're a mechanical construct, aren't you…" he surmised.
"Not construct, an android, Iroi-sensei," Chachamaru clarified.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING, CHACHAMARU! MAKE HIM UNHAND ME!" the vampire yelled again while still struggling.
"Man, you sure are a noisy brat," he said as he suddenly tossed Evangeline at her partner, who expertly caught her and set her gently on the floor feet first.
"You… you dare lay hands on ME!" the vampire raged, but Gamiya ignored her and strolled past her. "Hey, answer me!"
A few feet away, he turned around and said, "You know, knowledge is power. I learned a lot about you and your partner from this. You better ask yourself, what do you know about me?"
With that he turned around and continued, while giving a parting shot, "Geez, little kids these days…"
"I AM NOT LITTLE YOU OLD FART OF A TEACHER!"
It was business as usual for the rest of the time. One thing of note was that Gamiya paid a visit to the library today and took a liking for literature after reading a few books. He stayed there a little past dinnertime, checking out a book entitled "Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring" by J.R.R. Tolkien for a few days. He had his dinner at Chao Bao Zi then went straight to the church for bed.
The next day, he woke up late, close to lunchtime. After dressing himself, he went to the shopping district to shop for a tailor for his suit. The high priest was thankful that the dean had sent someone to create his bank account in advance; the bank actually reminded him of Kapra Corp. a little. Getting fitted and tailored was a breeze, since he did go through it before when he was being fitted for his priest attire back in Midgard. After getting confirmation that he could pick up the suit the next day, he decided to look around the place. The shopping district was huge, sort of reminded him of the Pronteran day markets. As he was strolling around, he then had a feeling that someone was following him.
He ducked into a store and waited. A while later, a rather busty red head with her hair tied back like a flower ran to the front of the shop, looking around for something. Recognizing her from class 3A, he then stepped out of the shop and stood behind her.
"Too easy," he said, making her jump.
"Ah! Oh, eheh, Iroi-sensei…" she said in shock. Then, suddenly recollecting composure, she announced to him, "I am 3A seat number three, Asakura Kazumi, news breaking reporter from Mahora News. I would like to interview you."
"Oh, great, a reporter," he muttered, wondering what he got himself into. A few minutes later, they were sitting at a café named Starbooks Coffee. The young reporter then took out a tape recorder and microphone.
"Testing, testing. Okay, ready to go. Commencing interview with Iroi-sensei, "she started by saying. "Okay, Iroi-sensei, may I ask for your full name and age please?"
"Har… Iroi Gamiya, and I'm in my fourties," he said stiffly. He rather didn't want to do this, but so far all this was only to humor her. He still remembered he had to keep the existence of magic secret.
"Where did you live prior to coming to Mahora?"
"Somewhere far away."
"Aww, can't you give me something more?" she asked as she pouted.
"Like what? Me?" he fired back, deciding to fool around for the time being.
"Eh? No-no-no, not that, I mean… where do you come from exactly?" she stuttered, startled at his forwardness, only to be able to keep her composure and continue.
"Sorry, I'm not at privilege to say," he said as he shook his head.
"Okay…" she trailed, thinking she couldn't get any more out of him. Moving on, she continued, "Well, where are you staying currently?"
"The church."
"Ah, I see. Are you affiliated with the church in any way?"
"Hmm, why should I tell you?" he replied, throwing her off again.
"Eh? But, this is in interest of the truth," she declared.
"Or that you were fishing for information, like probably some of your classmates asked you to?"
"Eh? Erm… ah…" and she was at loss for words.
"Wow, sensei made the Mahora Paparazzi stutter in an interview," someone suddenly said.
"Shh, onee-chan. They will hear…" shushed someone else.
The two seated people looked to the side and saw two strikingly similar looking people sitting at the table next to them. Both had pink hair, which kind of reminded him about his own daughters. One had two pigtails on each side of her head while the other had her hair collected into hair buns on each side of her head.
"Who are you two?" Gamiya asked, wondering if they were related.
"Narutaki Fuka," said the one with the ponytails.
"Narutaki Fumika," said the one with the hair buns.
"Right… Now, about your fishing," he said, turning back to Kazumi, "I think you know the saying 'Knowledge is Power', right?"
As she nodded, he got up from his seat and said, "Well, let's just say I don't want to reveal my hand just yet. I'll tell you all at a later date. Seeya."
With that he turned and walked away from the watching twins and a sad-looking reporter who wasn't able to finish her interview.
The rest of the day was like any other day, although there were somewhat more people at Chao Bao Zi than usual since it was the weekend. After that, he took a slow walk back to the church. By chance, he spotted Mana on the roof of one of the buildings, messing around with quite a large gun with a bipod. This sparked his interest and after making sure no-one was around, he teleported onto the roof. She quickly greeted him with a revolver aimed at his head… at least he thought it was a revolver.
"Sneaking up on people isn't polite, you know," she said coldly.
"Neither is drawing your revolver at a defenseless person," he retorted with a slight smile.
"You are far from defenseless, Iroi-sensei. And this is a IMI Desert Eagle airsoft," she said with a smirk as she re-holstered the gun… the high priest had no idea where she took it from in the first place…
He shrugged and moved to sit down next to her since she had no further objections.
"What are you doing up here, Iroi-sensei?" she asked as she resumed fiddling with the gun.
"Well, I'm curious to what kind of gun you have there. It reminded me of the gatling guns in my world," he explained.
"You called it Midgard. What sort of place is it?" she asked as she took the big gun apart.
"It's home. Life mostly centers on the big cities and a few islands, but most of the time there are adventurers wandering everywhere. My own lineage is pretty much all over the place," he said briefly. A moment of quiet passed between them.
"The dean said you were a priest; a sort of fighting priest. I've never heard of that before," she asked, breaking the silence.
"Well, I've never heard of demons living amongst the populace, but somehow that notion is being proven wrong these past few days," he remarked, only to have her Desert Eagle pointed at him once again.
"Heh, your reaction betrays you," he said as he smirked.
"How long…" she started as she hesitated.
"Ever since I went to the class. Priests in my world are attuned to sense such things. I sensed one or two more with a similar feeling to yours, but I won't tell you who else is there. I will confront them though, when the opportunity arises," he said before moving down the roof a bit and lying on his back while tucking his hands behind his head, looking at the night sky. Mana re-holstered her gun and went back to cleaning pieces of her big gun; an uneasy peace and quiet between them for the rest of the time.
The next day, after the church session, he quickly went and got his suit from the tailors and bought a few more items. He felt quite relieve to get this over with and quickly brought it back to the church. The jacket and trousers were light brown in color and made of wool. The other items included three white shirts, a few red ties, a box of underwear, a few pairs of socks and a pair of brown shoes. Other than this errand, he didn't have anything else to do on Sunday. So he stayed in his room, reading The Fellowship of The Ring the rest of the day.
