Chapter 3 - Plan
Soon after they bid goodbye to Coran, Keith and Allura headed to one of the castle's smaller conference rooms. Today was supposed to be a series of meetings and they've decided to include their former team member Sven and Romelle to represent Arus' sister planet. Just like Arus, Pollux was also going through its own planetary upgrades.
When everyone settled down and took their seats at the oval shaped conference table, Keith glanced to his fellow team members and spoke in a serious tone, "Something is going to happen to us and to our robot lions."
"Oooh, foreboding and mysterious." Lanced wiggled his fingers in the air.
Seated beside Keith, Allura looked at Lance pointedly, "Lance."
"What? You two are too darn serious for your own good. We're at peace. Peacetime! Don't you get it?" Lance crossed his arms. "And you two are still all wound up, like Lotor's going to rise from the dead or something."
"Still, we can't let our guard down. This is the best time to improve our skills and be ready for whatever's out there." Keith countered.
"I agree with Keith," Sven concurred. "We must never let our guard down. As we speak, Bandor has already organised an enlistment of able-bodied Polluxians for both National Guard and Reserve Army Training."
"Whatever you say, Viking." Lance rolled his eyes and shook his head.
Ignoring the Red Lion pilot, Keith raised holo-screen of today's agenda. "We'll be having a three-month intensive training program starting two days from now. And, right after this meeting, we'll begin plotting our training schedule for the next three months."
"We need to upgrade our skills and re-tool ourselves," Allura added.
"That is a word I can relate," Hunk exclaimed and did an energetic 'air guitar' rift.
"Uhm, Yeah. Thanks, Hunk." Keith cleared his throat, "Once we completed that task by midday, we'll move on to Pidge who will be presiding the meeting after lunch."
"What kind of tech wizardry will you be showing us? It better not be the boring stuff, Squirt." Lance asked, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
"You'll love it, Lance!" Hunk backed-up his best buddy.
"Hey! How come I don't know these bits?" Lance raised a brow.
"Have you been hanging around at our workshop, lately?" Pidge nudged his eyeglasses on his nose.
"Point taken. Carry on." Lance lounged back.
Unsure how long Pidge's presentation would be, as he was known to stretch his tech tutorial lessons, Keith asked, "Hunk, when do you want to schedule your presentation?"
Hunk rubbed the back of his neck, "Uhm, I think I'd rather have it tomorrow after breakfast. Meet you all at the Hangar Bay?"
Keith glanced at his notes from his data pad, "Okay, last item would be the castle tour and that's tomorrow after lunch. By tomorrow evening, we'll be greeting our training instructor for the intensive boot camp."
"You mean you're not the one training us, Oh Fearless One?"
"No, Lance. I don't have the accreditation level to teach what we yet need to learn," Keith replied.
"Figures," Lance snorted.
"Lance," Allura warned. He was being too Lance at the moment, and might just tick off Keith too early.
"Chilling here, Your Highness." Lance gave a mocking, elaborate wave.
Keith let out a loud exhale, blatantly ignoring his second-in-command's annoying antics, "Before we adjourn for morning tea, we have an announcement to make." Keith paused and held Allura's gaze. He squeezed her hand and smiled warmly. "We're getting married."
Everyone cheered out loud, stood up and approached the affianced couple.
Romelle hugged her cousin then clasped Allura's hands, "When is this happening?"
"Our wedding will be exactly a month after the Galaxy Victory Celebration. So you better make sure you'll be back from your honeymoon, okay?" Allura flushed several shades of pink. She felt her heart was going to burst. She felt so relieved and happy to finally sharing the news to their dearest friends.
Once all of the congratulations, hugs and cheers were given, Romelle looked at Sven and nodded, "Sorry, we can't stay too long. Sven and I need to leave within the hour. We have a meeting with Bandor and the planetary ministers."
"I understand. So, we'll see you on Earth?" Allura gave her cousin one more quick hug.
"We'll be there two weeks ahead of you." Sven replied. He smiled at Romelle. Glancing at the two princesses, the Norwegian still couldn't believe his luck. The universe has given him a second chance at life, and blessed him with an amazing, courageous partner like Romelle.
"Do we meet you at Pollux Embassy on Earth?" Keith stood beside Allura, his hand on the small of her back.
"Or at our embassy with Coran," Allura replied.
"I'll assume that Coran already knows about your engagement." Sven smiled to Keith, proud of his best friend to finally tie the knot with the Arusian princess.
"Yes, we met Coran first thing this morning before he left for Earth."

After waving goodbye to Polluxian couple from the Castle's midlevel shuttle platform, the Voltron Force turned towards the recreational room for morning tea.
"So, you got it all worked out, huh?" Lanced asked, his hands behind his head.
"What do you mean, Lance?" Allura held Keith's hand as they entered the rec room.
Lance strode towards the kitchen and grabbed his favourite mug. "Why would we suppose to believe what a bunch of hocus-pocus mumbo-jumbo soothsayers said about Voltron?"
Glancing at Allura with a knowing look, Keith prepped their new countertop espresso machine and coffee bean grinder, "Lance, you weren't there."
Lance placed his mug beside the expresso machine then plopped himself on nearby L-shaped couch, "Keith, you of all people would know, as someone who likes hard, credible and tangible facts, why would you believe them?"
Hunk, quietly listening to his friends' conversation, grabbed a sealed bag of coffee beans from the kitchen cabinet. He ripped open a new bag of coffee beans and poured it into the bean grinder. "Keith, I'll take over from here. I love this beast of a coffee machine." He quickly went to work, tamping ground coffee and making everyone's favourite coffee concoction: Double Espresso for Keith, Soy Cappuccino for Allura, Flat White for Lance, and Long Black for himself.
Pidge smiled in amazement at how Hunk worked seamlessly on the behemoth coffee machine that looked like it came out of a steampunk era. Shrugging, Pidge pulled out a carton of chocolate milk and pre-prepared tray of sandwiches from the fridge and brought them over the coffee table. He settled beside Lance and began drinking his favourite beverage.
Keith leaned on the kitchen counter, folding his arms around Allura's waist. "I can't explain exactly, but my gut feeling says it's okay to trust what the empaths told us."
"Okay, I'll play along. I'm prepared to give the benefit of the doubt. I'm not for this 'build-and-retool-your-skills' crap. I was eyeing a three-month vacation and not a three-month training boot camp." Lance grumbled.
"Is that the reason why you were grumpy at the meeting earlier?" Allura frowned.
"Quit grumbling, bro. You're making my tummy grumble. Before we hit school stuff, let's have recess!" Hunk placed all the coffee cups on a tray and brought them over to the coffee table.
"That's the best idea I've heard all day." Lance grabbed his signature coffee mug and drank deeply.
