He'd buried himself in work the weeks following the break up. He didn't even want to think of it in those terms though. Whatever it was that he and Shawn--Spencer had had, it wasn't a relationship. Really, all it had been for him was desperation stemming from the fear of loneliness. And that fear made you do stupid, rash, insane things.
Like sleep with Shawn Spencer. Repeatedly.
But there was always work to distract him because work was always the one constant in his life. He could always depend on it to be there. A stack of case files cluttered his desk and he was more than happy to dive into this glut of paperwork.
Spencer showed up, though. Instead of hanging around his desk or trying to rile him up by discretely touching him, he was over with O'Hara and Guster, laughing.
And he wasn't exactly sure why, but just the fact that Spencer was happy--was laughing--absolutely pissed him off. It was like the three of them were blissfully unaware on the mainland and he had been washed out to sea, caught in a riptide.
There was only one way he could think of to fix this situation. So he walked over to O'Hara's desk and tossed a stack of folders on her desk.
"Spencer, I don't believe we called for a consult. So you should make yourself scarce," he replied through gritted teeth.
Shawn opened his mouth to say something, but for possibly the first time in his life, no words came spilling out. Instead he motioned to Gus for them to leave and did so quickly.
Lassiter had already returned to his desk and was watching the two of the out of the corner of his eye while otherwise looking as if he was concentrating deeply on the paperwork on his desk. He hated that he had to send Shawn away, but it was easier to be the bastard. Because the alternative was completely unacceptable.
