A Heart's Passion

Karrie: Long time no see

Me: Had to finish spring semester...phew

Keith: Knowing you and how much time we've spent together, you're procrastinating on something a little more important life wise

Me: yeah, but it's alright, for now

Karrie: I wanna know if I learn to cook properly!

Rhythmi: I want a romance update!

Keith: food would be nice

Karrie: or action!

Me: I do not own anything except my OCs

Chapter 4

Karrie's P.O.V.

It's been at least a month since I got Keith to reveal that he can cook. To be honest, being stuck with him was not as bad as I thought it would be. He's been somewhat patient with me while I learn to cook. Why cook? Well, I'm a girl and I think that it would be nice if one day I can make something homemade for the person I love. (Not like I have found that person in my life yet) That and I figured since Kellyn and my baby sister, Kiwi, can do it, I can do it too. So far I've been wrong which is unusual.

I am bored, I haven't gone on a mission or a patrol in forever. My pranks have grown more frequent. Speaking of which, I should probably find a safe place to hide. The prank for Kellyn and Rhythmi should be going off soon. I went to go into my room when I heard Keith yell my name. Totally forgot I put shaving cream in his hand while he slept so it would end up in his face seeing as he almost always puts his hand on his face after he wakes up. I opened the door and tried to look at him sheepishly. He scowled at me. Someone is grumpy, but he looked kind of funny with the shaving cream all over his face. I heard Kellyn yell my name and I grinned.

"What did you do?" Keith asked.

"Stuff," I replied before escaping through the window. I rushed to Pueltown where I knew two Top Rangers would be. They were Kaleb and Justin, both were good (not as good as me, but still pretty good) but people tended to forget that they were Top Rangers. I used to occasionally do missions with them and I also was part of the Shadow Crew who took down Black Royalty a couple years back along with them. Granted that's classified information that even the Union doesn't even know, but it's still pretty cool. We were going on a "patrol" that really was a top secret mission Hannah, the Shadow Crew's leader, gave us. Some strange sightings and data was being gathered in the same areas the crystals Kellyn, Keith, and Kate had gotten came from. I technically wasn't supposed to go since Keith wasn't with me, but he's way too smart to bring along without giving any details to him.

"About time, Little Miss Troublemaker," Kaleb said and the two of us got into a glaring contest. The two of us have a strange sibling love-hate relationship. His little sister is Summer, one of the heroes of Oblivia who probably will become a Top Ranger soon. People remember his sister more than they remember him, poor thing. Justin people remember a little better, but I feel like he has spent too much time having to be in the shadows of Kellyn, Kate, and Keith.

"Shadow Fire, you taking the volcano?" Justin asked and I nodded. Shadow Fire was my codename in the Crew.

"Yep, is Psychic heading to Chroma Ruins?" I asked. Psychic, or rather Shadow Psychic, was another Top Ranger. The Top Ranger in question is a tall skinny flat chested serious girl with short hair named Zenya. Ironic how where each crystal is supposed to be there is suspicious activity and signs reported.

"Yes, I'll head to the Ice Castle," Justin replied and Kaleb rolled his eyes.

"Why do I always get patrols in Haruba Desert?" Kaleb complained. He knew the desert like the back of his hand since it was one of the places Hastings frequently had him sent. He's familiar with Ice Castle and the volcano too (actually just about any extreme climate/area he's been sent to), but I guess everyone likes seeing him covered in sand.

"Let's move out," Justin said and we did.

Keith's P.O.V.

I spent my morning watching t.v. like usual after I cleaned my face and hand. I took the time to shave for the first time. I really need to kick my habit of automatically rubbing my face with my hand when I first wake up. I was flipping through the channels when I noticed Teah was on screen for a special. Teah was pretty popular and I have to admit she's good. I almost changed the channel, but I didn't. I saw Karrie on t.v. It was about Teah's Girl Power Project that I guess Karrie must have been a part of during Operation Brighton.

"Why were you only able to get a hold of one female ranger for your project?" The anchor asked.

"There are many great females that a a part of the Ranger Union, but rangers can be pretty busy, especially at the time of the project." Teah calmly explained. "There was an organization trying to control all pokemon so they were working hard to stop them. Karrie happened to have just gotten back from a mission and, since she was a low rank at the time, they were able to spare her. It was a tough decision on their part, but I was and I am extremely grateful they sent Karrie. Karrie really is a fine example of girl power and she also is a great ranger. Recently, I received word that she became a Top Ranger." The rest was about the other girls involved and the showing of the music videos, talks, and clothing lines that came out of this project. I have to admit, Karrie was impressive and her genius self really shows in the talks. I'm surprised that her sarcasm and prankster personality didn't shine through. You could sort of tell Karrie is a bit sassy, but still, I have more respect for Karrie though I can't help but think that Karrie might be a tad bit insecure about her body. I don't know why she would be though, she has a great body...don't tell her or Kellyn that...

"Let's look at an old interview," the anchor said:

"Karrie , there are rumors that you were involved in the taking down of Black Royalty, are these rumors true?"

"I'm flattered that you would think that, but no, I was not," Karrie said. She's lying. I'm not sure why but I just know she's lying. Why?

"Alright, now a question all of us are dying to know the answer to: Do you have a crush, lover, boyfriend, girlfriend, or some sort of love interest?" I felt like my heart stopped for a moment.

"Hahaha, no, sorry," Karrie replied. Why do I feel relieved. That was at least a year ago, her answer might be different now. Why do I care? Do I have a crush on her?

"Keith?" I heard Kate say through the door. I quietly turned the t.v. off so she wouldn't know I was watching stuff about Karrie. She would start thinking I had a crush on Karrie or worse: she would tell Rhythmi and I would be subjected to her matchmaking plans. The devious blonde. I quickly put sweatpants on and a clean t-shirt before opening the door.

"Do you know where Karrie is?" Kate asked.

"Last I saw her, she was jumping out the window," I replied.

"She hasn't been around or in contact with anyone since early in the morning," Kate said. "People are tracking her styler now, apparently she has a habit of going off to do stuff without telling anyone." I rolled my eyes. That did not surprise me at all. "Three other Top Rangers aren't responding either." My eyebrows rose. "I forget their names, but they've been Top Rangers for a long time." Karrie, what the heck do you think you're doing?

"Keith, we need you to look for Karrie, she turned her GPS tracker chip off," Rhythmi said as she ran over.

"How? She sucks when it comes to technology," I commented. Rhythmi gave me a questioning look. Crap, she's coming on to me and my jumbled mess of feelings associated with Karrie. "Right, let me get shoes and my styler." I quickly did just that before picking up my sleeping Buizel. "I'll update if I find something if I feel like it." With that, I was out. I stopped once I got outside to take everything in. This was the first time in forever that I've been outside on a job. Karrie made sure I got outside at least once a week though she had interesting methods of doing it. A little voice inside me expected that this was all a set up, but the rest of me knew better. The Union wouldn't plan this. Karrie probably got bored and decided to do something with those unknown Top Rangers. I wonder why Kate doesn't remember their names.

I walked to Pueltown because I know she tends to go in that direction. That and I doubt she would go to Peril Cliffs with people, too many embarrassing things have happened there.

"Hey Brook, have you seen a short teenage girl with brown hair in a braid?" I asked when I saw the bridge keeper. "Kind of looks like Kellyn."

"Oh yeah, saw her talking to some rangers before getting on a boat heading to Boyeland," Brook replied and I nodded before thanking him. I called Kate on my styler. "Kate, I'm checking Boyeland, Brook might have seen her heading there." It's been forever since I've done this.

"Alright, thank you Keith," Kate replied before hanging up. I got on a boat and headed to Boyeland. It was fairly easy to get into the volcano though I wish I didn't put sweatpants on. I looked around, trying to figure out which route Karrie had taken. I had heard crashing sounds coming from one route so I decided to take that one. I was right, but I wasn't expecting to find Karrie trying to multitask between using ranger skills to release controlled pokemon and fighting skills with flaming gloves to fight her human opponent. What was going on? I put on my styler and jump into battle. I was surprised at how easy it was for us to be in sync without speaking a word. We won, I think. The guy was on the ground with no signs of getting up soon and all the pokemon were saved.

"What the heck did you think you were doing?" I asked. It came out harsher than I had intended it to be. Karrie visibly winced. "Everyone was worried." She fidgeted nervously. "How did you turn off your GPS tracker? You're lucky you look like Kellyn, makes asking around for you a whole lot easier in this region."

"Oh that, Kaleb did that," Karrie replied. "I would have blown something up if I did it." Exactly. "You used your styler."

"Huh? Yeah, I did," I said and she grinned like a goofball. I brought my fist on her head. "It's all your fault so don't act so happy. You're in big trouble."

"Stop treating me like a kid!" Karrie complained as she grabbed my fist in an attempt to remove it from her head. I rubbed my knuckles into her head. "Ah! Argh, stop it! I'm only a year younger than Kellyn!"

"Seriously? So you're seventeen?" I asked and she nodded. "No way, you're too short."

"I'm not short! Flame brain!" Karrie yelled and I couldn't help but smile. I ruffled her hair as she pouted. She looks so darn cute.

...crap, I managed to develop a crush on this girl...

The volcano started to shake, sending Karrie into my arms. My cheeks felt like they were on fire as my heart pounded against my rib cage.

"It has begun," the guy Karrie beat up said before passing out.

"Why do I not have a good feeling about this?" I asked.

"Because the volcano is shaking like its about to erupt," Karrie replied. "Crap, the citizens!"

"We have to get out of here!" I exclaimed. Karrie's watch went off and a hologram of a redheaded girl came up.

"This isn't a good time," Karrie told the hologram.

"Who is that?" I asked.

"Are you a friend? Can anyone overhear?" The girl asked.

"There's a passed out bad guy, my ranger partner Keith, and a volcano that may erupt," Karrie replied.

"My real name is Hannah, I'll explain later, Keith," the girl said. "I've sent an anonymous message about natural disasters occurring in Almia. Evacuation will start with Boyeland so get out as quickly as possible. I gathered enough data off of your devices."

"How do we get out?" I asked as our exit became blocked with rocks.

"Karrie will figure it out," Hannah said before hanging up.

"Hey! Don't dump this all on me!" Karrie exclaimed. A red sphere appeared by the fallen foe.

"Hey, that's just like Heatran's poral," I said before picking Karrie up.

"I can walk!" Karrie yelled, but I stepped into the sphere anyways without putting her down. I guess I secretly really like how she fits in my arms.

The light is blinding and somehow I know its not going to bring us to Boyeland outside the volcano.

Keith: where's the food?

Karrie: whoo hoo! Action!

Rhythmi: A CLIFFHANGER?!

Kaleb: Why Haruba? You always send me to Haruba!

Me: somehow its befitting

Kate: Keith is falling for Karrie!~ He's got a crush!~

Keith: No, I am not! *turns red and tries to stop Kate from talking* Don't say stuff like that!

Kellyn: Hannah sure has confidence that those who work for her will be able to come up with escape plans on the spot

Karrie: T.T you don't even want to know the training you have to get through once you get involved with Shadow Crew. She's the reason I fight like a *beep*

Kellyn: probably helps that you're athletic and have a temper

Me: I have most of the next chapter done already, so don't worry about the cliffhanger! Much!

Karrie: still should review though
