A/N: Sorry for taking so long to update. I kind of forgot where I was going with this story. But, it's all figured out again.
Disclaimer: see chapter one
Red moaned as he began to wake up. At first he thought he was still in the copter, but then he noticed that his arms and feet were propped up on something. Slowly, he opened his eyes to find himself in an examination room. The red blood cell looked around but didn't see Luke anywhere and panic instantly overtook him. Red jumped when the door opened and a female cell dressed in doctor's attire walked in. Her main focus was on a clipboard in her hands, not on the red blood cell in the chair.
"You're quite the mystery," she said, thinking that Red was still out cold. She walked over to a desk and placed the clipboard down, flipping up the top page and looking at the one underneath. "How did you acquire that blaster?"
"Stole it from a cop," Red replied.
The cell jumped and swung around, her eyes wide with fright. Red waved casually.
"Hi," he said.
"You're awake," the female cell observed lamely, putting a hand to her chest.
Red tapped his fingertips against the arm rests of the chair he was in. "Just woke up. Sorry for scaring you. Are you okay?" he asked with genuine concern.
The female cell nodded. "Yeah," she replied. "I'm fine."
"Etiquette says that I should introduce myself. I'm Red Haemoglobin. May I ask your name?" Red asked.
"Cilia," the female cell replied. "Cilia Aorta."
Red bowed as much as he could in the chair. "A pleasure to meet you, Miss Aorta. Now, that we've been properly introduced, would you mind telling me where I am?"
Cilia smiled. "You're in the City of Hector," she answered. "You were found in a crashed haemocopter at the site of a wrist wound this afternoon. You've been unconscious for most of the day."
Red nodded, his anxiety for Luke's wellbeing coming to the forefront of his mind again. "Was I found with anyone?" he asked.
"A white blood cell," Cilia told him without hesitation. "You were both unconscious, but you didn't seem to have sustained any physical trauma. Your friend is in another room being tested."
Red sighed in relief, but then he frowned. "Tested for what, exactly?" he wanted to know.
"Viruses," Cilia replied.
Again, Red nodded. "Understandable," he muttered, more to himself than to Cilia.
Cilia looked down at the clipboard again. "So, you're from Kevin?" she asked, looking up to face Red again.
Red swallowed thickly. "Yeah."
"What was it like?" Cilia questioned. "I mean, you're a red blood cell. Unless you somehow forgot that you were a red blood cell and what your job was, you weren't meant to have that enzyme blaster. That's only regulated to the Immunity force."
Red shifted in the chair uncomfortably. "Like I said, I stole it from a cop. No word of a lie. The streets of Kevin were hard on any type of cell, especially us blood cells. Kevin got sick...really sick. The city was crawling with viruses and bacteria in no time. One day while I was on my way to deliver oxygen to the brain I was jumped by one of the virus gangs that had formed." He frowned as he remembered the event. "To this day I don't know why they chose me. However, before they could do anything, the cops showed up. Unfortunately for them, the viruses were stronger and the cops were shot down. That's when I got my hands on the enzyme blaster."
Cilia stared at him with wide, horrified eyes. "You took a gun from a dead cop?" she whispered.
Red shrugged. "He didn't need it anymore," he pointed out.
"Still," Cilia said.
Red raised his hands in defense. "Hey, it was a tough city to live in." He trailed off and his eyes became distant. "Really tough," he mumbled quietly.
"Well, you're safe now," Cilia told him. "We may be young, but we have an excellent Immunity Force."
Red smiled. "That's good to know," he said. "Um...where did you say my friend was?"
"Just down the hall," Cilia replied.
Red jumped out of the chair and headed for the door. Cilia began to panic.
"Where are you going? You still need to be screened," she called after the red blood cell.
"Maybe some other time," Red called back over his shoulder.
He hurried down the hallway, but there were so many rooms he didn't know where to start looking. Red jumped when he heard a yell and a crash. He ran to the door at the end of the hall and threw it open.
"Whoa!" Red exclaimed, just barely managing to duck a shot from a blaster.
He looked into the room to see Luke pressed up against the corner of the room, enzyme blaster clenched tightly in his hands and a doctor cell flat on the floor with his arms over his head. Red cautiously stepped into the room, hands raised.
"Luke? You okay, buddy?" he asked carefully.
"Where are we?" Luke asked, eyes wide and afraid. "She got us, didn't she? We're in her lair."
Luke was clearly not in his right state of mind and it made Red more than a little worried. He made his way over to the doctor and knelt down, placing a hand on the cell's back.
"You okay?" Red whispered.
The cell nodded, but didn't move. Red looked back up at his friend. Luke was visibly shaking and Red feared that he might get trigger happy and start shooting the room up again.
"We're safe, Luke," Red assured his friend. "We're no longer in Kevin. We made it out."
Luke shook his head. "No," he breathed. "The copter...we crashed...people were shooting at us."
"We fell through a wound," Red explained. "We're in the City of Hector."
The crazed look slowly began to fade from Luke's eyes. However, whatever calm was starting to take hold was shattered when the door burst open and heavily armed Immunity cells barged in. Luke swung his blaster towards the cells and Red could see his friend's finger tighten over the trigger. The yelling wasn't helping anything, either.
"We are in her lair!" Luke screeched.
"Drop the weapon!" the cells were shouting over one another.
"I'm not becoming one of her lackeys!" Luke screamed.
Just when Red thought that someone was going to get shot, a blow horn sounded. Everyone cringed and covered their ears. Red looked up to see a white blood cell and a cold pill enter the room. Since the leukocyte was holding the blow horn, Red guessed that he must have been the one who blew it.
"Why don't we all just take a deep breath and calm down?" the white blood cell asked.
At the sight of another white blood cell, Luke started to calm down. The cell with the blow horn looked over at Luke and smiled. He walked over with his hand out stretched.
"Hey there. The name's Osmosis Jones."
Luke lowered the blaster and timidly took the other cell's hand, shaking it. "Luke Marrow."
"Welcome to Hector," the cold pill greeted warmly.
Jones noticed the frightened look in Luke's eyes and smiled. "Don't worry. Drix may look intimidating, but he's nothing but marshmallow fluff on the inside."
Red made his way over to Luke and took his friend's hands. "Let go of the blaster, Luke," he said.
Luke shakily released his hold on the blaster. Red took the gun and patted his friend on the shoulder. Luke slowly slid down the wall until he was sitting on the floor, his breathing ragged.
"Hector," Luke mumbled quietly. He looked up at Red, the crazed look once again fading from his eyes. "We made it out?" Luke whispered.
Red nodded and smiled. "We made it out," he confirmed. "We're safe."
"We found you when your haemocopter crashed," Drix explained.
Luke looked up at Jones and Drix. "Osmosis," he started.
"Call me Ozzy," Jones said.
"Ozzy," Luke started again. "Drix. Thank you."
Jones placed a hand on Luke's shoulder. "Hey, don't mention it, Marrow. Coming to a new city can be disorienting, take it from someone who knows."
"But, if you'd like we could help you get back on your feet," Drix offered.
Red smiled. "I think I speak for both of us when I say, it would be much appreciated."
