Authors note: Okay guys I know it's been months since my last update, but my internet access became nonexistent. I'm back online now and hope to get this story completed and posted. As many of you know and for those of you who don't, the actor that played Finn passed away July 13, 2013. Cory Monteith was a heartwarming man. I cried the day I heard of his death and I dedicate this story to his memory. Although neither Cory or his character were gay, he was supportive of the gay community. Many prayers to his loved ones. Now on with the show.
Ch.4
The sleeping arrangements that night was not something Kurt thought of. Now it seemed that there was only one option, "Finn, you take the bed and I'll take the couch."
"What? No dude, it's your home. I'll take the couch."
"It's too small! You'll be scrunched up all night."
"Well..." Finn scratches the back of his head before finishing his thought, "we could share the bed." At the look of disbelief on the smaller man's face Finn quickly added, "It was just a thought! If you're uncomfortable with that I'll be more than alright on your couch."
Kurt kept quiet for a moment thinking back to high school when they shared a room. Finn had freaked out just sleeping in the same room; granted he's older now and less closed-minded, but Kurt didn't want to risk their closeness now if Finn had another gay freak out. "It's not me I'm worried about, it's you."
"But I'm the one who had the idea. Why would I be uncomfortable?"
"Well, what if I get too close in my sleep? Ryan often complained that I would lay all over him." Finn's eyes got that same odd look that's been happening all night and Kurt was really wondering what it meant?
"I'm sure we will be fine. I have no issue with being near you." When it looked like Kurt might be giving in, Finn clapped his hands together and said, "Great! Now that the sleeping arrangements are settled I'll just go change." He quickly grabbed his night-clothes and toiletries on the way to the bathroom. He caught Kurt's bemused look through his peripheral. This could be fun, a grin played across his lips as the door closed.
Kurt had no clue as to what was going on with Finn, but couldn't seem to find the strength to care now. It could wait till morning. What is it about breaking up with someone that leaves you so utterly drained? It's as if every part of your being that has existed during the relationship disappears with the other person. He feels so hollow. Kurt climbs into bed, giving silent thanks to Rachel for replacing the sheets. There's no way he could have slept in his bed if it still smelled of Ryan's cologne. His stomach turned at the thought of what else they would have smelled like.
Kurt was just getting settled in his self-pity when he felt the other side of the bed sink with Finn's weight. Finn has the tall, muscular build of a swimmer and apparently is heavy enough to have Kurt rolling towards him. Giggling, Kurt bumps into Finn's side. "Finn, I think you've grown." They both laughed and moved into more comfortable positions.
They laid on their sides, facing each other. "Well, Santana didn't call me, 'Frankenteen' in high school for nothin'." Finn was relieved to see Kurt smiling. That alone was worth mentioning the dreaded high school nick-name. After a long silence Finn whispered, "I've missed you."
Kurt's clear blue eyes filled with tears, "I missed you too. God! I didn't realize how much until I woke up and heard you singing. I remember all those times in glee when I'd beg Mr. Shue to have us sing Broadway songs or Lady Gaga, anything except another rock ballad. Kurt scooched just a little bit closer to add, "Do you know what I listen to when I get home sick? It's certainly not Gaga."
The taller man placed his chin on his fist, "Then what does the musically inclined Mr. Kurt Hummel listen to when he's homesick?"
"Journey, Guns-n-Roses, Fleetwood Mac..." Finn looked shocked. "You and my dad have the same taste in just about everything. Your music choice is no exception. I have a whole playlist titled Home, filled with songs that remind me of you both."
Finn could do no other than pull Kurt into his arms and fight the urge to kiss him senseless. Kurt would not be ready for that. Not now, maybe not ever. Pushing his worrisome thoughts to the side he focused on the man who has become the most important person in his life and who seemed to be falling asleep. A small chuckle escaped Finn's lips. He ran his hands up and down Kurt's back. Kurt was an average size guy, but next to Finn appeared small and fragile. Finn's arms tightened around the sleeping figure wanting to protect him from anything or anyone that could cause him harm. They'd left the curtain that surrounded the bed open and light from the bathroom spilled into the rest of the flat. It was just enough to see the pale beauty of Kurt's skin. His skin appeared to be so soft that he couldn't resist brushing his fingertips across his cheeks. Kurt let out a breathless sigh and curled closer in his sleep. Finn returned his hand to Kurt's back and slipped into a dream filled with hopes of their future.
