** Okay here's Chapter 4. Sorry it took me awhile. We went back to work from Spring Break this week and my life got crazy. Hope you all like this chapter. Should have the next one posted, in a few days :) I won't leave you hanging too long."

1 month later

"Jess!" Cece calls as she sees her best friend coming down the sidewalk to meet her at their favorite coffee place.

"Hey Ceec!"

Jess hugs Cece and notices that her little belly is starting to show.

"Aww Cece you look so cute with your little baby belly! I'm so sorry I haven't had a chance to hang out much lately. Between work and Nick my time is full."

"It's cool babe I totally understand."

Jess thanks her lucky stars for Cece. No matter what happens between the two of them they always catch right back up as if no time has passed.

"So.." Cece begins to pry. "How are things going with Nick?"

Jess looks at Cece and doesn't want to spill her guts. Her and Nick had decided shortly after their first night back together that they wanted to keep a modest amount of privacy within their relationship. That night they had talked for the longest time about everything, but mostly what they didn't want to happen this time. Nick and Jess had both agreed that their relationship was pretty public within their friend group. Which isn't a bad thing, they love their friends. Nevertheless, the lack of privacy did cause a small wedge in their relationship before.

"I haven't been this happy in a long time. We're beyond good. I don't really have the right words. I love waking up next to him and having him there when I come home. He's busy writing his second book and running the bar. The sex is still out of this world. I don't think I could be much happier."

"Do you think he'll ask you to marry him?"

"I don't know Cece and honestly I don't care. I'm fine with the way we are. If he wants to that's great and if he doesn't that's great too. As long as he's mine."

"Yah right Jess! Since you were little you couldn't wait to get married! Don't lie!"

"I know that but, I'm not going to rush this at all. I can't lose him Cece."

Jess looks down, feeling defeated. Cece registers that she's stepped over a line.

"Jess I'm sorry. Change of subject. Do you want to come with me to my doctor's appointment on Wednesday?"

"YES! Of course I do. Everything's okay right?"

"Oh yeah the baby is fine, I'm good. Schmidt can't come with because of work and I figured that Aunt Jess might like to come with."

Cece smiles at Jess hoping that her overstep had passed and Jess isn't upset with her

"Aunt Jess" Jess smiles, she's never been called an aunt before, "I'd love to come with!"

On the other side of the city Nick is pacing in front of a jewelry store. He had wanted to propose to Jess the moment he kissed her in the elevator. Quickly he had decided that might not be the best idea. He knew she wouldn't say no but what if she did? What if the thoughts of the night they broke up come flooding back and she realizes he's a dumbass with no hope of a future. Schmidt was the one that convinced him to get a ring. One buzzed up night at the Griffin, Schmidt had caught Nick staring at Jess as she was sitting in their favorite booth with Cece and Aly.

"I told you I've never seen you look at anyone else like that."

"Hey Schmidt." Nick ignoring the sudden embarrassment rising to color his cheeks.

"When are you going to ask her?"

"Ask her what Schmidty?"

"To marry you? Cece and I are married, Winston is engaged, now it's your turn."

"Man, I still don't understand how I got her. I don't want to lose her but she deserves so much better than my sloppy, grumpy self. I mean look at her."

The two of them turn to look at their girls laughing at one of Winston's jokes.

"She's all I want Schmidt. I need her. She's everything."

"Then you need to ask her. You know what Nick, if Jess didn't want to be with you, she wouldn't be. She loves you man just like we all love you. You're an amazing guy, you have the biggest heart. Of course she loves you, you need to start believing that." Schmidt states with only that certain fondness Schmidt has.

As the present comes back to him, Nick steels himself and walks boldly into the jewelry store. After spending nearly 2 hours in there, trying his hardest not to panic moonwalk away, Nick finds the ring he knows is "Jess". It's vintage with a circle cut diamond, surrounded by vanilla colored filigree, vines wrapping down toward the center of the white gold band. He knows she'll love it. But now what? Does he just go home and ask her? No he can't do that. Jessica Day deserves the most loving proposal that Nick can give her, to show exactly how much he loves her.

"Hey Schmidt are you busy? I need to talk to you in person."

"No, I'm just hanging out at home, come on by"

In record time, Nick is knocking on the door of Jaipur Aviv. "Nicholas, come into my office"

"I did it, I got a ring.", he says breathless.

"NICHOLAS! You surprising devil! Let me see it."

Nick hands the ring to Schmidt in hopes that it suffices. Nick has never bought jewelry this important in his life. Schmidt opens the box and lets out a sigh, before covering his mouth with his hand.

"It's awful isn't it. I knew it! Schmidt come back with me to help me. I don't know how to do this."

Schmidt grabs Nick by the arms, shaking him out of his own head. "Nick, this is beautiful. It's perfect actually. It's totally something Jess would pick. Good job man!"

Nick let's out the breath he's been holding as Schmidt returns the ring. "Now how do I propose to her? It has to be amazing."

"I have an idea." Schmidt says in excitement. "There's a certain movie playing in the park tonight."

TONIGHT!

"Tonight…."

Back at the coffee shop

Cece comes back to the table after taking a phone call from Schmidt, a little more giddy then she was before.

"So... that was Schmidt, there's a movie playing in the park tonight, you know how they do the inflatable screen. Well I guess Schmidt thought it would be nice if the 6 of us went out. Whaddya think?"

"That sounds great! "

"Great!" Cece giggles, shaking a little bit.
Why is Cece so excited?

Jess enters the apartment, confused about why Cece needed to leave in a hurry, she notices that Nick isn't home. Odd. He didn't say he was going anywhere today. Oh well.

Jess heads over to the couch, feeling sleep taking over her eyes. She had been fatigued this week, more than normal, but she had resolved it to work and late nights with Nick. Thinking of the last late night with Nick, Jess curls up on the couch and gently falls into sleep.

A few hours later she wakes with a panic. Where is everyone? She stands urgently looking around the room, and begins to feel herself fall to the side. She composes herself, as she grabs the arm of the couch.

What was that about?

"Ding!" Jess hears her phone go off and easily walks over to her purse sitting on the table. There's a message from Nick.

Hey honey. Sorry I'm not home. I had to get some paperwork done here at the bar. We're all going to meet at the park. I'll see you then.

Jess's reply concerns Nick immediately.

Nick, I'm so sorry but I don't think I can go to the movie. I'm not feeling very well. Can you come home? I need you.

Without hesitation, Nick grabs his coat, already at the park with everyone. "Nick where are you going?!" Schmidt yells.

"Something's wrong with Jess."

Nick gets to the apartment and takes no time with the elevator, running, skipping steps until he's busting through the door. He finds Jess sitting on the floor in front of the fridge.

"Hey what's up babe, are you okay?" grabbing her face giving her a once over.

"I'm okay I think. I'm really dizzy all of a sudden."

Nick can see it in her face that she's out of it. He helps her up, placing his hands at the crook of her elbow pulling her up, leaning her into him. "Here sit down. Let me make you some tea."

"That's what I came in here to do to begin with but I couldn't reach up to the shelf."

As she drinks her tea, Nick can see the color return to her face, to her eyes. "I feel better already. Thanks honey. You didn't have to come rushing home for me."

"Yes I did, I'd do anything for you Jess."

"Do you want to go to that movie now? I'm feeling better."

"As long as you're feeling better, yeah lets do this."

As they arrive at the park Nick's heart is beating out of his chest. Jess immediately notices the words "Dirty Dancing" across the screen.

"They're playing Dirty Dancing?! YES!" she giggles, making Nick's heart flutter in his chest. This is it.

They take their seats on a blanket next to their friends, Schmidt winking at Nick letting him know they all support what's about to happen. As the final dance and "The Time of my Life" starts playing he knows it's time. He looks down at her, wrapped in his arms, head on his chest, with small tears in her eyes, the movie pulling at her heart. He gently sits her up and turns to face her.

"Jess I need to ask you something."

Jess can see the intensity in his eyes, feeling the static building between them.

"Jessica, oh God please don't let me mess this up, I didn't rehearse this or anything so I'm speaking from the heart here. When I first met you, I didn't know that I'd find love. I found it where it wasn't supposed to be, right in front of me. You are right in front of me now and I will never let you go. You are my everything and I pray that I'm yours. I want all of this with you, marriage, a house, the kids. I've never wanted anything more. I came to life when I met you and I never want to go back to who I was before. I want you for the rest of my life. You're my best friend in this entire world. I love you and there's nothing you could do that would make me love you less. Jessica Day, will you marry me?"

Nick pulls the ring from his pocket, tears building in his eyes, waiting for the answer he so desperately needs to hear. Clinging to her every movement, he hears it, the quietest whisper. She pulls him into her, hugging his neck, practically choking him.
"Nicholas Miller, of course I'll marry you. Yes!"

In that moment he stands up, grabbing her tightly and spins her around. Their friends break into applause and laughter. He releases her only for a second to place the ring he chose for her on her left hand, where it'll stay for the rest of their lives. Schmidt collects Jess in a hug, crashing her to him. He's sobbing in hysterics, hearing Nick's confession of love to Jess. Schmidt has something he needs to say to Jess before the moment passes between them. He and Jess have always been close but if it wasn't for her, Schmidt wouldn't have his friend back. "Jessica I can't thank you enough for coming into our lives, I will forever be grateful for you". Jess smiles at her friend "Schmidt thank you for voting for me to move in. You changed my life before I even knew it."

All of the friends take turns hugging the freshly engaged couple. Everyone feeling the finality of what is happening in their lives. This is what was always supposed to happen. As the movie wraps up, the gang grabs their blankets and chairs to head back to the parking lot. Jess and Nick holding hands, swinging them gently between them, Jess looks up at Nick and feels a wave of dizziness come over her again.
"Nick…" he hears her say before he's being pulled down to his left.

He sees her laying there on the ground

"Jess? Jess!" he calls to her, shaking her to life, no answer coming from her lips. "Jess! Oh my god Jess, baby wake uo" Schmidt call an ambulance!"
