GIZA PORT - CAIRO
The three siblings were walking along the boardwalk, carrying luggage. Well, Isabella and Evelyn were the only ones with luggage. Jonathan didn't have anything with him.
"Do you really think he's going to show up?" asked Evelyn. Isabella shrugged and kept walking. "Yes, undoubtedly, knowing my luck." answered Jonathan.
"I swear if that man doesn't show up, I will find him, drag him by his hair, kicking and screaming, whether he likes it or not. If that's going to be necessary." added Isabella.
"Bella!" exclaimed Evelyn, looking at her sister, shocked that she had said something like that.
"What? I was just kidding." said Isabella. She turned to Jonathan.
"No, I'm not." she whispered to him.
"He may be a cowboy, but I know the breed. His word is his word." said Jonathan. They came to a stop to rest for a moment and put down their bags. "Well, personally I think he's filthy, rude, a complete scoundrel. I don't like him one bit." told Evelyn.
" Evy, seriously, you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. He might be a fine lad. You'll never know what he's going to be like." said Isabella.
"Anyone I know?" said a voice. The three siblings turned around and saw the man, also known as Rick O'Connell, walk up towards them, who was now cleaned up from the last time they saw him. Isabella looked at him impressed while Evelyn was shocked.
"Oh...um...hello." she stammered. Isabella waved at him and looked at him up and down. "You clean up nice, O'Connell." she said. He smirked at her and nodded.
Jonathan playfully socked his shoulder which caused him to look away from Isabella. "Smashing day for the start of an adventure, eh, O'Connell?" said Jonathan.
"Yeah, smashing." said Rick, checking for his wallet. "Oh, no, no, I'd never steal from a partner, partner." Jonathan told him, making Isabella roll her eyes at him.
" Oh, really? Jonathan, you've stolen from me and Evy so many times that I've actually lost count and we're your sisters!" said Isabella causing Rick to smile at her.
"That reminds me. No hard feeling about the..." Rick mimed the punch he gave Jonathan back at the prison. " Oh no, happens all the time." said Jonathan, looking at Isabella while he said it. She gave him a smile.
"And that's what happens when you steal from me."
"Mr. O'Connell." said Evelyn, getting everyone's attention, " Can you look me in the eye and guarantee me this is not some sort of flimflam?"
"And that would be really bad because if it is then I would most definitely have to kick your ass even if I really don't want to." said Isabella.
"Lady, let me put it this way. My whole damn garrison believed in this so much that without orders, they marched halfway across Libya and into Egypt to find that city." said Rick. "When we got there, all we found was sand and blood." Isabella stared at him as both Jonathan and Evelyn stared at him in complete awe.
"Let me get your bags." said Rick, as he picked them up and walked towards the boat. The three siblings all watched him go before he disappeared.
"Yes, yes, you're right. Filthy, rude, a complete scoundrel. Nothing there to like at all." said Jonathan, causing Isabella to laugh and made her way towards the boat.
It was night. Isabella was sitting at a table, reading a book. Evelyn had went to their room an hour ago. A bag was dropped on the table, causing her to jump. She looked up and saw Rick standing there with a grin on his face.
"Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you." He said while taking off his jacket. "The only thing that scares me, O'Connell, are your manners." Isabella said as she looked up at him.
"Still angry about that kiss, huh?"
"If you called that a kiss. Besides I've had better." said Isabella, keeping her attention on her book. Rick frowned at her and opened his bag. Isabella looked to see that there was a lot of weapons. She put her book down and looked at Rick. "Are we going to war or something because that's a lot of weapons for someone to be carrying around." Rick was assembling a gun and didn't look at her once.
"Lady, there's something out there. Something underneath that sand." said Rick as he put the gun in it's holster. "My sister is actually hoping to find an ancient book and Jonathan thinks there might be treasure. But, that's always Jonathan." said Isabella as she put her hair behind her shoulder.
"Why are you here?" asked Rick. Isabella looked at him and grinned. "I'm studying to be an archeologist. Well, I was before I came to visit my siblings. And here we are now." answered Isabella.
"But, what do you think is out there?" she asked him. He looked at her with a dark glint in his eyes. "In a word? Evil." said Rick. "The Bedouin and the Tuaregs believe that Hamunaptra is cursed."
Isabella leaned forward and looked him in the eye. "Look, I don't believe in fairy tales, Hokum and other stuff like that along with my sister. I did when I was little, but I grew out of it, O'Connell." said Isabella.
"Then, what does your sister believe in?" asked Rick. "Evy believes one of the most famous books in history is buried there. It's called ' The Book of Amun-Ra.' She's told me thousands of times about it and that it contains all the secret incantations of the old kingdom." said Isabella.
"And the fact that they say it's made out of pure gold makes no never mind to you? Right?" said Rick as he cleaned his shotgun. Isabella smiled at him.
"You really do know your history, don't you, O'Connell?" she said.
"I know my treasure." said Rick.
She looked at him for a moment, hesitating about the question she was going to ask. It was quiet between the two for a little moment before Isabella said something.
"By the way, why did you kiss me?" she finally asked. Rick just shrugged and simply said, "I don't know. I was about to be hanged. It seemed like a good idea at the time."
Isabella scoffed, grabbed her book and stood up. She walked away as Rick said, "What? What'd I say?"
She saw a camel and gently pet it's head. After a while, she felt someone watching her and turned her head. She saw that Rick and a scrawny looking man staring at her.
She gave them a narrow look and walked away.
"I mean can you believe him?! Who even says that to someone? Does he like have no respect for people at all?!" Isabella exclaimed to Evelyn, who was sitting on the bed as she watched her sister pace back and forth.
"Told you I didn't like him. But, no. You said not to judge a book by it's cover." said Evelyn. Isabella stopped paying and gave her sister a look. "Don't use my own words against me. I'm really upset right now."
Evelyn looked at her sister sadly. She stood up and hugged her. "It's okay. Maybe you should give him another chance." Isabella nodded. Evelyn smiled at her and walked away. Isabella looked at her confused.
"Where are you going?" she asked.
"Going to check on Jonathan. See if he got into trouble or not. But, it's Jonathan." Isabella laughed. Evelyn walked out of the room.
"Well, it wasn't even a good kiss. I've had better ones." Isabella said to herself mostly.
Isabella sighed and started to get dressed for bed. She was standing in front of a mirror, brushing her hair. Something fell off the sink and she reached down to grab it. When she stood back up, she saw a man, dressed in all black, standing behind her. She gasped as he grabbed her and put a hook against her check.
"Where is the map?" he asked, as he was digging the hook into her cheek. Her eyes drifted towards the table that had the map and the box on it next to a candle. He followed her eyes and looked back at her.
"And the key?" he said, angrily, "Where is the key?!" Isabella looked at him in confusion. "The key? The key? What key? I have no clue on what the hell you're talking about?" she said as the door was busted down.
"Isabella!" yelled Rick when he saw the man in black. He pointed his gun at him, but he turned towards the window and shot a man. Isabella grabbed the candle and shoved it in the man's eye and elbowed him. He screamed painfully and let her go. She ran towards Rick as he pulled her out of the room. Once they were out, she suddenly remembered and tried to go back.
"The map! The map! I forgot the map!" Rick grabbed her hand and pulled her in the opposite direction.
"Relax, I'm the map. It's all up here.'' said Rick, pointing at his head.
"That sounds very comforting, O'Connell." Isabella said, sarcastically, which caused Rick to glare at her. People who were on the boat were running around completely wild. Fire was starting to cover some surfaces of the boat, animals were panicking and going crazy.
Rick grabbed his weapons bag and gave it to Isabella. "Hold on to this." he simply said and started to reload his gun. Bullets were being shot into the wall behind them and were getting closer and closer to Rick's head. Isabella pulled him away before the next bullet was shot. They both looked at each other while she let go of his shirt. They made their way towards the edge of the boat while Rick was shooting the guys who kept shooting at them.
Rick put his gun it's holster and turned to Isabella while she put his weapons bag down.
"Can you swim?" he asked her. Isabella looked at him in disbelief.
"Yes, I can swim. But only when the occasion calls for it and now is not a good time to be asking that!"
Rick picked her up while saying, "Trust me. It calls for it." He threw her over the side of the boat and into the water. Isabella gasped for air when she came above the water and began to swim for shore. Evelyn was already there because Jonathan had thrown her off when things started to go crazy.
"Bella!" she exclaimed when she saw Isabella walking up to her. The two of them hugged each other as Rick, Jonathan, and the warden began to walk on shore. Well, only Rick and Jonathan. The warden was just crawling to get on the beach. Isabella looked at him and rolled her eyes.
"We've lost everything!" exclaimed Evelyn, once Isabella let her go. "All of our tools, all the equipment. All of our clothes." said Evelyn as she looked at Isabella. Isabella looked at the nightgown she was wearing and crossed her arms so no one would see...you know...those.
"O'Connell! Hey! O'Connell!" yelled the man, who was also known as Beni and the guy who was talking to Rick on the boat. The group turned towards him as he began yelling.
"It looks to me like I've got all the horses!" yelled Beni.
"Hey Beni! Looks to me like you're on the wrong side of the river!" Rick yelled back while Isabella laughed as Beni kicked at the ground, swearing.
