Chapter 3
A blond haired man and a dark haired woman sat down at the table. Both their eyes held signs of lack of sleep. Dark, thick circles that would not disappear with even a store of make-up.
"You think we would be used to this," Alex mumbled.
Nikita just hugged her mug of coffee closer. Another ear-piercing scream left the bedroom.
"You would think that there was a torture session going on," Nikita said in Russian.
Years later and this was still a common practice. Not that Alex could blame is adoptive parents. But they had no idea when it was ok to have sex.
Alex glanced at the young woman beside him. She was his best friend on nights like this. The two of them and cups of coffee as company.
"Are you ready?" Nikita asked.
"I don't know Nikki. I love it here but England is always my home. You get it," Alex let out a confused sigh.
The young woman just smiled. Her phone beeped and the night staff came into the kitchen. It was the start of another morning. Another day and Alex knew just how grateful he should be for a fresh start.
Two hours later and Alex was swimming furious laps in the indoor pool. They were in the house in South Africa. The house was huge just like the family's million other houses. Only the two story house close to Moscow would ever be considered as home.
His body moved with crisp moves and he pushed through the first stage of pain. It was probably time for a cool down. Alex slowed down and he took his time coming to a stop.
In two weeks he'll be back on British soil. Alex did not know what to think. It had been a huge pain getting into Cambridge. Academically it was not difficult at all. Alex was home-schooled. So it was just a matter of pushing and applying himself. If he was stuck with anything there had always been a contingent of tutors to help.
It was getting the security clearance that had been pure hell. Hours after hours of questioning and paperwork. Finally, just before Alex was ready to throw in the towel, the response had come in. He was going to Cambridge.
During the summer holidays Alex had been off the wall. It had been nice to be homeschooled but now he wanted to make an attempt at normal.
Besides if that failed, he knew he would always have a job at Scorpia.
It was close to midday when Alex's parents came out of their room. Nile and Yassen smelled like sharp, clean, cheap soap and gun powder. It was a smell Alex loved.
Before he was adopted at fifteen Alex had faced more than any grown men had to. His life had been on the line more than once. He had served Queen and country.
That meant that he had lost most of his childhood. So for Alex simple things that a family did made his day.
Nile quickly enveloped his son into a hug. Alex was perfect in his eyes. But then again when it came to Alex, Nile would always be subjective. Alex smiled and hugged his dad right back.
His dad, Nile, was buffer than his Pa, Yassen. He leaned into the chocolate man's arms. They felt safe and warm. Something, Alex, did not want to let go of ever again.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Nile gently whispered into his son's ear.
Nile knew the nerves Alex was going through. Nile was nervous himself. University was no joke. As wonderful as it was to be a proud parent he worried about his blond haired son's safety.
"Stop worrying, Nile. Alex will be fine. He can always come home," Yassen said.
The rest of the staff had left on the rare day off. Nikita also went back to their home in Russia. Nikita's baby brother was running a fever and no matter how much the Gregorvich household paid her, medical bills were still expensive.
The whole family loved their house in South Africa. They had managed to buy a place in the Kruger National Park, so most days there was plenty to do. But today was one of those lazy days.
"How about we start with lunch and then we watch a movie," Nile suggested.
Alex and Yassen nodded. It was easier to work with Nile than to disagree. .
The days were few and far in between that the family actually got to rest together and have a great time.
"Ok, I'll just watch you two cook," Nile said.
That was actually a pretty good idea. Both Yassen and Alex preferred subtle hints in their food while Nile never had that luxury as a child.
Nile had little to no taste buds. Anything he made was either bland or a punch of flavours that rarely worked together. Nile got comfortable at the kitchen table.
Lunch was an easy meal. Simple stir-fry and noodles with some dessert that Nikita made the night before. It was the simple, easy moments that made them appreciate each other and the time they spent together.
"You know you can back down if you want to," Yassen said softly.
"Not an option," Alex said with determination. "I worked too hard for this. We worked hard for this." Alex's eyes shone brightly. "I need to do this."
Yassen tried to argue back but a look from his husband stopped him. It would not be easy for any one of them to let go. In the end of it all they had was each other. They were three orphans who had, had the amazing opportunity to become a family.
But Yassen could not help but worry. He hadn't told Nile or Alex yet. It was bad but there were notes. No pattern or anything memorable but Yassen felt threatened by the notes.
The Scorpia team had yet to track the sender. Scorpia was the law and like any system of law it did not like being under fire. But Yassen put a smile on his face.
He would protect Nile and Alex had his security sorted out. It was his duty as a husband, father and to his family to protect and keep it safe.
The Heavens my fall and Hell would turn to an Iceland before he let anything happen to them.
A/N: Tell me if you likie. Other than that can anyone explain to me why this fandom suddenly seems so lifeless?
