Hey guys, so I've not updated this for nine years and I've finally gotten to this bit. This is in fact the last chapter, but I will be putting a few spin off's for this story. I'm already in the process of writing a few one-shops based on this story.
I'm sorry it ends so abruptly guys, but I just don't see how I can keep writing Happy Halloween, I'll also be changing the 'horror' category because I have no idea why my teenage mind thought to put that there. I think there was something seriously wrong with her but hey, she's the inspiration to be better at writing so we can be thankful for that.

So without further ado, here's the final chapter and the couple of this series is finally revealed!

Enjoy guys!

Disclaimer: I can't stress enough that I don't own Sonic and the gang, I only own the random characters that you DON'T recognize here. I wish I didn't own Flame because he's an ass, but I do so yeah…

Two ruby eyes stared back at her from a dark set of quills and peach muzzle. She felt her heart skip a beat as she let out a small sob, still a little shocked from the near violation. Her eyes welled with tears and her voice failed her for a few moments.

"Shadow?" She asked; tears finally fell from her eyes, staining her cheeks and leaving a salty taste in her slightly ajar mouth. Her feet seemed to move on their own as she launched herself at him, taking him by surprise as he stumbled back a little to steady them. She latched on for dear life as she sobbed into his chest fur.

"Oh thank you, thank you Shadow!" She clung to him, hands clutching his back quills as she sobbed her heart out. "I don't know what would've happened if you hadn't been here!"

She continued to cry as she felt her body tremble and her body only shook more as she felt his arms finally come up to hold her back, clutching the back of her head in one of his hands and the other holding her around her waist.

"I'm here Amy, I'm glad I decided to walk by to check on you now." He pulled back from her a little to turn his head to the unconscious hedgehog lying on the floor. "And I'm glad I could knock him out, I had a feeling he was up to something. Looks like I was right." He huffed and moved Amy to her front door.

Amy looked back at him, feeling a little sorry for him but at the same time knowing that he had it coming. She turned back to Shadow who still had an arm around her waist, guiding her.

"Um, you came to check on me? Why?" She asked, her face flushing slightly as she watched his face.

He turned his head to her. "I told you, I had a bad feeling and decided to make sure that you were home safe. I was literally going to just check that you're light was on and then keep going, I'm glad I didn't come sooner now." He looked back to the guy again, his eyes narrowed. "You think he'd have more sense to not try something like that considering who your friends are." He turned back to Amy, his eyes showing a seriousness that made her slightly uncomfortable.

She turned her head and bit into a cheek. "Yeah well, this'll be the last time I date someone; the nerve of that guy!" She seethed at the very thought, wishing she'd thought to summon her hammer and smash his head into the ground herself. "Oah! I wish I'd thought to do it myself, but I just froze! Why did I just- Ugh!"

She looked to see Shadow looking at her with amusement in his eyes. She blinked at him as she saw a corner of his mouth lift slightly, his face relaxed from its usual scowling seriousness. A softness was on his face and it clearly reached his eyes as they seemed to sparkle as they watched her.

As if realizing what he'd done, he cleared his throat and turned away and slight flush on his face.

She put her hands behind her back, linking them together as she leaned towards him with a smug look on her face. "Was that a smile there Shadow? I'm so glad you found my anger so amusing, I'll have to remember that for next time!" She giggled at him, feeling his eyes move to hers again. He was scowling at her again, his eyes narrowed. She instantly back tracked: "Oh Shadow! I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, I only meant that it's so rare for you to smile like that." She sighed as she looked to her boots. "I wish you'd do it more often, you looked really happy and I shouldn't make fun of you for it." She looked to him again, her hands clasping in front of her face as she pulled off the best pout she could muster. "Please forgive me Shadow, I didn't mean to offend you, honest!"

He watched her for a moment, neither of them realizing that his arm was still around her waist. "There's nothing to forgive Amy." He said while closing his eyes and finally retracting his arm to fold them, sassiness replacing annoyance.

She giggled at him.

"Well, I'm glad you're alright Shadow." She rifled around for her keys and opened the door with a jingle. "C'mon in, I can make some hot chocolate to say thanks!" She walked inside leaving the door open expecting him to follow her.

He took one final look at the guy on the floor and huffed again before going inside, shutting the door quietly as he took in his surroundings.

It was a modest home, small but cosy. A plush cream carpet run through the living room and seemed to disappear up some stairs and into another room to his right. A three seater couch was in the middle of the room, facing a decent sized HD TV, a tall lamp sat beside said couch and gave off a nice warm glow to the living room. A clock sat on the wall, pictures of friends littered the small slots in a dial of time. A sideboard littered with picture frames of more friends, and one in particular caught his attention: It was a small silver frame with a picture of himself and Amy inside. He had a look of complete surprise and slight irritation on his face as she clearly jumped into the frame to snag a picture of the two together.

He remembered that day; he'd been invited to one of Rouge's parties at her home, a barbecue out in her backyard.

Memory

Everyone had attended and the place was bustling with people, too many for his liking. He'd stepped away and sat under a tree that provided him with some relief from the relentless sun; his black fur always made it difficult for him to be out in overly sunny weather. He'd sat there for a long while, the party still going on around him. The sound of laughter and endless noise almost drove him up the wall, but what really grated on his nerves was the familiar sound of someone's hopeless cries.

"Sonic! Wait up!" A pink hedgehog was seen chasing a blue blur around the garden, trying to get him to talk to her. Her hammer was out showing how she was finally at the end of her tether. "Sonic the hedgehog, if you don't stop right now you're gonna feel real pain do you hear me!?" Her yell had obviously caught the attention of a certain white bat who had grabbed her and gave her a good talking to. Threatening to make her leave if she didn't 'behave herself' which had embarrassed the poor girl to the point of tearing up.

Shadow looked to Sonic who was wiping his forehead in relief and tossed an obnoxious 'Thank you!' to Rouge who'd rolled her eyes in response. Amy was clearly disheartened from the whole ordeal and was quiet for the next hour, despite a little rabbit trying to cheer her up. She'd sat in a chair at one of the garden tables with her head resting on her hand and was sighing while looking to Sonic every five minutes. The little rabbit had given up after a while and had gone to see if Rouge needed any help and was roped into helping her bring out some more stuff from the house.

He'd watched all of that unfold and had finally had enough when Amy looked to Faker again with a look of complete adoration again despite having got her in trouble for wanting to spend time with him. Idiot that he was obviously hadn't noticed how much he'd hurt her.

Shadow had stood and stretched his arms above his head to work out a kink in his back, and then looked back to Amy before walking towards her. He sat opposite her and poked her in the forehead startling her, but after realizing who'd done it she smiled and blushed, obviously hadn't heard him approach.

"Oh, hey Shadow!" She exclaimed while perking up some; "Everything alright?" She asked him, slightly concerned that there was something wrong. She was right, but she obviously had no clue why.

"Figured I'd come and get something to eat, what about you?" He asked, she looked at him, blinking. He almost apologized until she smiled at him gratefully.

"Yeah, okay." She stood with him and walked over to Knuckles who was flipping burgers with Rouge supervising of course. "Um, hey Rouge." Amy smiled awkwardly at her and the bat looked at her with a warning look, and in turn Amy started to shrink into herself.

Shadow cleared his throat at Rouge and narrowed his eyes. She'd glared for a moment and then sighed. She turned to Amy and smiled.

"Hey Amy, want a hot dog? I wouldn't trust Knuckles to give you a burger." She jested with a wink. An embarrassed "Hey!" came from Knuckles beside her.

Amy snickered; "Who made the hot dogs then?"

"I did, so I think they're safe. Shadow?" Rouge was alright when you finally understood her, but it was hard to pull all the layers back and realize that she was a good person and a great friend.

"I don't think I'd trust his cooking either." He said with his arms crossed. An indignant "Hey!" came from the irate echidna again.

"Now now Knuckie, you know we're only joking." She winked at Shadow and Amy both and turned to grab them hot dogs. "Here, sauces are over there. Enjoy!" Amy thanked her and walked over to the table she pointed at, failing to notice that Shadow was held back by Rouge. "Best watch your back Shadz, I think Big Blue's feeling a little green monster over there." She whispered jokingly into his ear.

He looked out of the corner of his eye, turning his head slightly and sure enough there was Sonic stood there glaring at him like he'd just stolen his chili dog.

Shadow turned back to Rouge and huffed. "He didn't want to be near Amy, but I don't happen to mind her. I think she's…" He trailed off a small flush on his face. Rouge grinned and winked at him, letting his arm go.

"Have fun, and it's adorable how you dote on her like you do."

He rolled his eyes and walked to where Amy was putting some ketchup on her hot dog, she smiled at him and offered it to him. He shook his head and then started walking back to his tree with Amy close on his heels.

They sat next to each other in the grass under the shade and ate their hot dogs in relative silence. Shadow continued to watch his rival throw frequent glares at him and Rouges occasional wink his way. It was peaceful in a way, to watch others live their lives from afar. He was quite surprised when he felt a sudden weight on his left shoulder, a pink head resting there quietly. He found himself putting his arm around her and pulling her up against him a little more and got a startled look from her in response so he went to apologize, but she then smiled at him and he felt his face become red again. He felt his heart skip a beat as she moved a little closer to make herself more comfortable herself while burrowing into his side. He waited for her to settle before he could rest his cheek against her head as he listened to the birds chirp from the tree and the billowing laughter of a certain red echidna.

He caught one final look on Sonic's face, one that surprised Shadow to no end; the complete and utter loss, pure and utter remorse at losing something precious. He'd recovered quickly enough and was rolling his eyes as he and Amy sat there snuggled together.

Shadow was even more surprised when she'd taken his hand from on her stomach to play with his fingers and wrist band, inspecting his gloves. It was fascinating to watch her do that, the dozy look on her face while he did so made him nuzzle her head again as he closed his eyes to rest them for a moment.

What he'd thought had been a moment was a few hours as Rouge had come up to them and shook him awake, saying that the party was winding down and they were taking pictures. Amy had perked up at the word 'pictures' and was up in a moment's notice, she looked back at Shadow hopefully and he'd gotten up to follow her to the others. Her hand had then grasped his because she didn't seem to think he was moving fast enough, but he found he didn't mind so much. He was starting to realize that he didn't mind much of anything the girl was doing.

He'd joined them for a few pictures of them in a group but then he started moving away to let them have their fun, he'd watched them make silly faces at the camera, smile and even had the boys pick up some of the girls for photos. Amy funny enough had asked Knuckles for one, but had just stood next to Sonic, she'd had one with Tails hovering while holding her hands and laughing. Rouge had one with just the girls, and there was one with just the boys.

Amy had disappeared and he'd almost panicked, but was taken by surprise as he found himself with an arm of pink hedgehog as she jumped into his side to snap a photo of them.

Present

He smiled at the memory, his heart skipping again as he placed the photo down. He'd have to have a tidy picture with her one day, just them so she wouldn't have to look at the surprised face he was pulling. It was kind of embarrassing.

He noticed a door to his right that was left slightly ajar and was letting a small sliver of light through, assuming Amy was in the kitchen he walked through.

A small kitchen with a smaller breakfast table sat against the wall to his right, a small cooker and some kitchen appliances sat atop of a wood effect counter top and pristine white cupboards littered almost all the rest of the space. A decent sized window sat in front of the kitchen sink, giving what would probably be a very nice view of the garden had it been light. A small plant sat on the window-sill, it sloping leaves and long stem with a cluster of purple flowers sat inside adding a splash of colour to the otherwise bare room.

The pink hedgehog was reaching up to one of the high cupboards trying to reach a purple tin and struggling. He walked over to her and put a hand on her shoulder before giving her a gentle nudge to the side as he reached up and brought it down for her.

She smiled at him and blushed slightly. "Thanks Shadow." She said while moving to a small milk pan that was boiling some milk, she grabbed two big mugs off her mug stand and placed them on the counter. She opened up a small silver packet and put two marshmallows in the bottom before moving to the milk to put some chocolate mix in, the sweet smell of chocolate filling the kitchen as she worked. She poured hot chocolate in the mugs evenly and then topped them off with two extra marshmallows and then pulled some whipped cream from the fridge to swirl on top and sprinkled some of the chocolate milk powder on top.

She handed a cup to Shadow before putting everything away quickly and then moving into the living room. She set the mug down on her small wooden coffee table and then moved over to the TV, flipping a switch before moving to sit on the couch, kicking her boots off and snuggling up against the arm to make room for Shadow.

He sat down next to her and watched as she turned the TV on with a remote, instantly turning the volume down with a mutter of curses. She flipped through a few channels and finally settled on a drama.

She sipped at her hot chocolate, licking up the cream when it attached itself to her upper lip and then looked to Shadow with a grin at the cream on his nose he was rubbing off. She laughed and he found it quite infectious so he chuckled in good humour.

"So, how have you been Shadow? We don't see much of you." She asked while picking a marshmallow out of her cup.

He looked to her un-gloved hand and wondered when she'd removed them before shaking the thought away. "I've been around, GUN have been keeping me busy. The assignments they keep giving me are too easy so what should take a week to complete takes me a day or two, and I don't think they've quite caught onto that yet." He shook his head. "I'm glad to have two weeks off if I'm honest."

She perked up at this. "Two weeks off? Wow, now you have no excuse to not hang out with us." She said smugly.

"I don't mind being with you Amy, I find the… company to be hard to get along with." He said matte of factly.

"Oh, you mean Sonic right?" She asked while looking at her hot chocolate.

"Not just him Amy, that echidna is not a conversationalist. He's a bit of a…" He trailed off and looked to see if he'd offended her but was relieved to see her smiling and giggling.

"Oh I know what you mean. Knuckles isn't the smartest, but he's got a big heart. In fact, whenever Sonic used to hurt my feelings he'd try to cheer me up. Sonic doesn't know, but I used to go to Knuckles on Angel Island to spend time with him. He'd show me around and we'd sit by this beautiful lake and I'd listen while he'd talk about Rouge and he'd listen to me gush about Sonic… We've drifted apart since he and Rouge finally got together, but I guess it's good. I was rooting for them, but I do miss my friend…" She trailed off while looking to the TV again.

Shadow contemplated that for a moment and understood where she was coming from. He'd noticed an absence of Rouge who was his only friend at the time and at first it had bothered him, but then he'd gotten used to the idea that she wouldn't ever really leave him completely. He'd even thought about her romantically for a time, a very short time. She was too over whelming and he thought he may have dodged a bullet with her, not that he'd ever tell her that unless he wanted to get kicked in the face. "I know what you mean, but you know that I'm here if you ever need me Amy." He told her sincerely.

She looked to him with a soft smile on her face, tears welling in her eyes. "Yeah, I'm starting to see that Shadow." She said with a blush, her hot chocolate becoming very interesting all of a sudden.

He smiled that soft smile again and looked to his own hot chocolate, taking another sip from the frothy concoction.

When their mugs were empty and their bellies warmed they just sat on the couch in companionable silence, watching the TV with a mulled interest.

He felt a shift in the couch and looked to see Amy moving towards him, she paused and looked at him. He looked at her with amusement and lifted his right arm inviting her to cuddle which she took full advantage of. She nuzzled into his side, a smile on her face as he kept his arm around her. She started to play with his fingers again and he looked to where she was doing it and watched her trace each finger and his power ring. He moved his hand and grasped hers in his which was lax for a moment and then clasped his back.

"Hey Shadow?" She asked quietly.

"Hm?"

"I think I was… chasing the wrong hedgehog. I'm sorry it took me so long to realize." She said and he felt her swallow next to him. "And, if I'm reading this wrong please tell me, but, you've been… Uh…" She trailed off, embarrassment stifling her voice.

He moved back slightly making her sit up. She looked at him with worry evident in her eyes and he decided to put her mind to rest.

"I don't know why my heart beats faster or why I find myself feeling overly happy when I'm with you, but I'd-" He was cut off by a pink hedgehog quickly kissing him. He blinked when she pulled away and found himself leaning forward to her to connect his lips to hers again to feel that connection.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and moved a little to sit up a little more, her lips moving with his as she kissed him again and again. She felt his arms move around herself and she moved a little closer, her chest flush with his as she smiled into the kiss.

They pulled back with their foreheads touching and their eyes closed while catching their breath. Shadow opened his eyes first to see the flushed face of Amy Rose sitting in front of him, eyes closed and smiling. He felt his body warm and he kissed her forehead.

Her eyes shot open then and she wasn't just smiling anymore, she was beaming at him. "Sh-Shadow, you'd better be asking what I think you are or I'm going to-" She was cut off by a quick kiss again and looked at him.

"Would you like to go out Amy Rose?" He asked with a cocky grin, and Amy looked at him with all the confidence in the world. She did that to him, she gave him that confidence, the want to smile! She found that his cocky grin was so much better than that of her long time ex crush and squealed while tackling him and almost falling off the side of the couch.

"Yes! Yes! I'd love to be your girlfriend! Oah! I'm so happy!" She sobbed on his chest fur again, but he was glad that it was for a completely different reason this time.

He grinned against her head and kissed her bangs. "I'm glad."

She pulled back and grinned at him too before moving toward him again and planting another kiss on his lips, her head slanting to deepen it a little. No tongue was involved but it was so sweet and still so filled with passion that they really couldn't care.

At least they had each other and that was good enough for them.

I'd like to thank everyone who followed this story (101 reviews for this thing, now how did that happen?) I really appreciate you all giving me a kick up the backside and for those that are confused I was Sonamygirl_92 but now I've changed to Fork-Tongued-Nemesis. I don't know why Fanfiction doesn't inform everyone of a name change, it would be nice. I've been surprised a few times with this problem -.-;

Hope you guys enjoyed and thanks again!

Don't forget to Review.
