Chapter 4
The week after the graduation exam, all of the new genin were in the academy classroom, chatting amongst themselves waiting to be assigned teams. Shikamaru walked up to where Naruto was sitting next to Sakura.
"Hey Naruto, you do know that only people who graduate get assigned teams." He smirked.
"Do you see the head-band?! I made it to genin, see?!" Naruto huffed out indignantly.
Iruka entered the classroom and quickly instructed everyone to return to their seats so that he could begin to assign squads. He began to read from a list he pulled out. He read the list of people in the first 6 teams, and then began to announce the members of team 7.
"In team 7 is Sakura Haruno, Naruto Uzumaki—" Naruto began to cheer, while gloom rolled off of Sakura in waves. He continued reading.
"—Sasuke Uchiha—" Sakura began to cheer while Naruto moped.
"—and Toya Uchiha." He finished irritated from the interruptions. Naruto's gloom quickly turned to anger.
"Iruka-Sensei, why do I have a loser like Sasuke on my team?! That Toya kid's related to him, I don't want him either!" A look of hurt flashed on Toya's face for an instant before he masked it as Naruto hit a sore spot.
'Well nothing new here, I'm not wanted.' Sasuke gave him a pat on his shoulder as he shot Naruto a glare. Iruka sighed and shot Naruto a look for his abrupt comment.
"Naruto, we put people on squads based on their scores from the academy. Sasuke had the highest, while you had the lowest. Also I don't think that your comment about Toya was called for." Naruto huffed and crossed his arms. Iruka then read out the members of the other teams. Before he left, he gave a parting message to the new teams.
"Before I go let me explain that some teams this year have more than three members because of more graduates than anticipated." With that he walked out of the class room, leaving the genin to wait for their jounin team leaders.
~About an hour and a half later~
Most of the jounin's arrived and picked up their squads a few minutes after Iruka left. Currently the only team left in the classroom was team 7, whose jounin was nearly 2 hours late. Naruto was pacing back and forth and it was starting to grate on Sakura's nerves.
"Will you sit down Naruto?" She said, very irritated. The blonde ceased his pacing and looked at her.
"But all the other sensei's came and picked up their teams and ours is taking forever." He suddenly got a bright idea and pulled a chair to the door they expected their sensei to enter from. He stepped onto the chair as leverage and wedged a powdery chalk erased into the top of the door, rigged to fall when the door opened. Sakura watched with mild interest.
"Naruto, I don't think that's a good idea." She said with slight worry.
'Cha, I love this kind of stuff!" cheered inner Sakura. Sasuke didn't even bother looking up.
"Loser our sensei is a trained jounin, do you honestly believe that they'll fall for a simple booby tra—"Sasuke was cut off by the sound of a chalk eraser bouncing off of a white haired ninja's head. Naruto was rolling on the ground racked with laughter, Toya was trying and failing to smother his laughing, and Sasuke was in his usual brooding position.
'Is this guy really a jounin?' Sasuke thought. Sakura tried her best to fake a look of innocence.
"Sensei, I told him not to do it, but he didn't listen!" she said with false sincerity.
'Cha totally nailed him!' Cheered inner Sakura. The ninja scrutinized them in a lazy manner.
"My first impression of you is—" He paused for a moment as if in thought. "—you're all idiots." The four genin sweat dropped.
"Meet me on the roof." The jounin said as he disappeared in a swirl of leaves. The four genin began to make their way to the roof to begin introductions with their jounin.
