The moment the heavy doors of Makarov's office closed, Natsu exploded. "How is she? Is she really alright?! Stupid stripper kicked me out of her room-"
Makarov lifted one small hand. "Calm down, Natsu, calm down. Just like I said, Lucy is fine." He put the hand to Natsu's knee. "Natsu, boy, I called you here because I have something very important to ask you. Something I don't want the guild to hear. They might jump into false conclusions and, hot headed as they are, try to hurt you."
Natsu lifted one eyebrow. " Something important to ask? Have no idea what are you talkin' about, Gramps." Makarov sighed.
" I can assure you that I am not one to judge you. What is done is done, and nothing can change it. Therefore I want you to be absolutely sincere. Natsu, have you ever done something, anything, to make Lucy think you are interested in her?" He looked into a pair of onyx eyes.
"Of course I am interested in Lucy! She's my friend!"
Master shook his head. This wasn't getting him anywhere. Natsu was too sincere in his feelings to purposefully play with Lucy in such horrible way. If he did mislead Lucy, Makarov would bet his pants that it wasn't Natsu's intention. But he tried anyways. If his age had taught him anything, it would be the fact that people are very complex creatures. Everyone had all kinds of emotion hidden in them, positive and negative. It was just the way they used them that made them good or bad.
"No, Natsu, not as in a friend. Interested in her as in a woman, a gorgeous and beautiful young woman she is. Have you ever done that? Remember, I need the truth."
The pink-haired man wrinkled his forehead for a second. "I told you the truth, Gramps! Lucy is my friend, no, more than a friend. She is my partner. That's all it is." He cocked his head on a side. What was going on here? What was wrong? Master said that Lucy was fine, why the questioning then? Did something happen?
Natsu's train of thought was interrupted by a firm knock . His head shot upwards, eyeing Makarov who opened the door. To the surprise of both men, Laxus stepped inside. "Gramps, you have to go downstairs. Someone spread rumours about Natsu being punished for hurting Lucy. The guild went berserk, they want revenge. I tried to chill them out, but they refuse to listen. Talk to them, Gramps - they will listen to you. Calm them down, before someone gets hurt."
Makarov sighed again. That was exactly the situation he had been trying to avoid. He knew his kids and he knew their short temper with anyone hurting one of their own. "Those brats..." If Natsu actually caused harm to Lucy, he would let them have their way, but the cofused boy sitting in his office was definitely innocent. And Makarov won't tolerate hurting the innocent. " So, Natsu. Make yourself comfortable while we go clean all that mess up. Come, Laxus."
The doors closed again, but this time Natsu didn't explode. He was quietly sitting in the chair, trying to comprehend what he had heard. His guild, his only family...has turned against him. How? And, more importantly: Why? What for? What has he done to deserve such hatred? What kind of sin had he commited? He didn't do anything! Someone hurt Lucy, yes, but it wasn't him! She was his best friend- how would he be able to lift a hand at her? And why would he do such a thing? She was always the one hurting him- when he came to sleep in her comfy bed, when he ate food from her fridge, when he came to bathe with her... He never as much as raised his voice at the blonde, and suddenly he would beat her to oblivion? Who would believe such bullshit?
Laxus watched his grandfather's face fall when the old man saw the apocalypse in the guild. The Raijin tribe, Erza and Strauss siblings were fighting against the mass of angry people. Screams echoed through the main hall, interrupted by angry shouts. Chairs flew through the air, tables were used as barricades. What he saw wasn't a guild hall anymore. It was a battlefield.
