Prompt: let him/her fail.
She tried to say on, but with little success.
Her eyes closed tightly, waiting for the impact that would jolt her painfully to a stop. Just as she expected it, it happened.
She hit the ground hard l amist the trampling of hooves stomping the ground in a fury. The bucking horse was eager to unseat the unpleasant weight that it had been forced to bear.
"Eowyn!" She heard her name being called out through the kicked up dust.
She opened one eye to see her brother barreling towards her with her cousin not far behind. "Eowyn!"
She managed to push herself up, coughing on the settling dust as she did so. Eomer dropped to the dirt and helped support his sister's shoulders while she gained her breath.
"That was quite a tumble..." Theodred painted once he came to a stop. He doubled over, placing his hands on his knees to maintain his rapid intake of air.
Eowyn could not speak, but gave him a small forced smile. She was in pain, but she could manage.
"You are supposed to stay on the horse, not fall off." Eomer stayed with a hint of mirth. Eowyn let the smile fade to a dark look, allowing her hard and determined stare bore into her older brother.
"Wise words spoken from a rising horse master." she managed to say as she rolled her eyes at the sarcastic comment. "I'll remember that next time."
"Next time?" Theodred knit his brows in worry as he watched the young blond girl push herself to her feet. This was not a good idea and it certainly did not need to be repeated. His cousin was bound to get hurt.
Eowyn only nodded once before she and set foot after the young steed that threw her.
"Cousin!-" Theodred tried to stop her, but Eomer's hand clamped on his shoulder halting him.
"If she is to ride as a Rohirrim and pride herself as such, she needs to do this. She can not back down now. Let her fail. Just as you and I learned, it will either break her, or strengthen her."
