Time for the simulation to begin...

I open my eyes. Not a single second has passed since they closed, and I take in my surroundings. The room appears to the school's canteen but all the tables are empty, and it's snowing outside.

A voice echoes from somewhere. "Choose." Is all it states. It shocks me initially and I look around to discover where the voice is coming from, and the person is located that is speaking, but all I can hear is the snow falling outside, and my footsteps shattering the silence.

My eyes drift to the table not too far in front of me, and I move forward to see two baskets there. I glance over them ,and see some cheese in one, and a long knife in the other. "Choose." The voice states again. My eyes drift from one to the other. From the knife to the cheese and back again.

"What will I do with them, once I've chosen?" I ask, slightly annoyed at the force of the speaker.

"CHOOSE!" The voice shouts, and I mutter 'I was only curious, sor-ry!"

I glance at the two baskets, and before I can decided which item to pick up, they vanished into thin air, the contents too.

The door squeaks open, and I hear light foot falls, and I turn to see who - or rather, what- it is.

A dog walked in, as large as you can imagine, and snarling at me; all sharp teeth blaring, showing the tips to me. I feel a cold shiver go down my spine, and I regret not picking up the knife or even the cheese. But something sparks in my brain - what was it that I read before? Looking into the eyes of a dog is how to agitate it further?

How do you show a dog submission? Thinking quickly, I can do the only thing that comes to mind, and sink to my knees on the floor, close my eyes and hang my head, hoping for the best.

I don't hear the dog come any closer, but when I feel something soft and moist fall against my face, I open my eyes, and see the dog sitting in front of me, licking my face. I hold my head up, and laugh, stroking the dog's head. He's not so mean after all!

But the peace is short-lived.

A young girl appears into the room, spies the dog and squeals "Doggy!" with her arms opened wide t embrace the animal. The dog's mood changes once again, as fast as it did before. It stops licking my face, and stands as I draw my hand away and stand myself. I can hear the animal growl once more, and I realise that it's going to attack the girl, who looks around six or seven years old. I doubt she knows what I did.

If I don't do anything, the dog could kill her! The dog leans more heavily on its back legs, and I know now I have just seconds to make a choice. I don't think, and run towards the child at the same time as the dog begins moving too. I stop before her, and turn towards the dog, holding my arms out to my sides, to have to dog attack me, sparing the child. I close my eyes, as the dog jumps and I feel a force that pushes my onto my back.

Winded for a few seconds, I keep my eyes closed in case the dog decides to start attacking me again.

It doesn't arrive. Instead I hear someone nearby shout to me. "Get up!" He growls, and I open my eyes to see that I'm now sitting in the middle of a bus, right in the isle and all the seats are taken. I rise to my feet, muttering a 'sorry' to the man and hold onto the pole near me to keep myself standing. I see the man next to me is reading a newspaper and on the front cover is an image of a murderer. somewhere in my gut, I feel a wrenching feeling - as if I know the murderer's face.

The man reading the paper notices me looking, and talks again. "Do you know this man?" he asks harshly, and I wince. His tone is not one that I enjoy being talked to in, but I have to be honest to him. He's capable of hurting me if I lie.

"Yes." I respond. "Yes, I do know the man."

The reader turns to me, folding the newspaper together and resting it on his lap. He wears sunglasses, so I cannot see his eyes, but his facial expression shows me that he's now filled with joy from my response. "Really?" He said, his face lighting up. "Because, you can help me if you do!"

I want to help the man, I really do. His scarred hands make me feel sympathy, but a jolt in my stomach tells me that it's still a simulation, and he's not real, I can't actually help him, nor do I really know the murderer. But, the gut feeling still remains there, and the man DID say he needs help. And I've come this far telling the truth.

"Yeah, of course I know him!" I exclaim to the man, going with the gut feeling once again. "Why would I lie about something like that?"

He smiles, and the bus stops. He gestures to the two doors at the back, and I climb out onto a broken city road that looks somewhere between the Abnegation and Factionless sectors of the city. Snow is thick on the ground, and I'm nice and warm with thick, woolen gloves to help me stay that way. I begin walking down the empty road, my footsteps making a trail behind me.

The gut feeling about the murderer vanishes as I walk, and it's only a few seconds before I see a figure sitting hunched over, sitting on the curb of the road on the horizon.

I walk towards it, curiosity growing inside of me, and I come face-to-face with a Factionless man. He's sitting next to a meager fire that is blowing itself out, and he looks freezing! I begin to feel sorry for the man, as nobody should have to live like that, so before I knew it, I took off my gloves and warm coat, and held them in my hands towards the Factionless man.

"Hey." I said soothingly, and the man looked up with a start. I can clearly see his lips are chapped and beginning to go blue. "Here you go." I say, handing the clothes to the man, helping him into the jacket, and zipping it up tight as he pulls on the gloves. "You need them more that I do." I state smiling, and I can already feel the bitter cold on my skin.

Suddenly, a large cloud of snow wipes everything out of my vision, and when it clears, I'm back in my normal clothes, and I can smell burning from behind me.

Before me now stands Meredith's house, burning. My mouth drops and something sweeps into my vision. Merry. I grab her arm and she struggles against my tight grip.

"Let go!" she screeches at the top of her lungs, tears flowing freely from her eyes. "My brother's still in there!"

The fire makes several of the windows upstairs explode and we cover our heads from the shower of glass, and we can hear Meredith's brother scream . I know what I have to do.

"Meredith." I say to her forcefully, and she looks at me, struggling to keep herself calm. "I'm going to go in there and save Dan - don't follow me in. Okay?" I ask and she nods. I release her hand from my grip and I begin sprinting full-on toward the growing flames, and Mr and Mrs Edwards walk forward to comfort their daughter. I reach the doorway and kick open the door, only to be met with a wall of flames that seem to engulf everything around me.

I hear Daniel shout for help from the far side of the room, and I jump over some of the fallen beams from the roof to find him trapped under another, with flames creeping along it, almost at his leg. Without hesitation, I run over and ease the beam off of his leg, when he screams again, pointing to something above my head, and I look in time to see a metal beam fall from to roof on top of me.

But before it can hit me, however, I find myself sitting upright in the mirrored room, with Tori looking worried, and a cold sweat forming on my forehead.

The Test is over.
