BEEP, BEEP, BEEP! The alarm clock screeched in frustration as it was left to ring. Twilight moaned and hesitated to turn it off knowing that she needed to get up and that she wouldn't if she turned it off. She turned it off anyway and feel back asleep at her desk.
Spike walked into the room jumping onto Twilight's lap. "Bark Bark" (come on Twi! You'll be late for school.) Spike tried to wake his owner. He even started whining.
"Ugh, what time is it, Spike?" Twilight looked at her alarm clock and then jumped. "Oh no!" She looked out the window and saw the bus wasn't there yet
"Still have time, let's hope The Kings don't show up."
She quickly packed the speech she was writing for school along with a letter for her dad, "don't want my welcome to go wrong, or dad to feel like I forgotten him."
Her father was in jail for life, drugs were found on him, this caused so much depression with the Sparkle family that Twilight mom drank herself to death. Now Twilight lives with her aunt Starlight glimmer who is not around much thanks to work.
"Ok let's get my uniform on and head out!" Twilight started to change into a white collared shirt with a blue tie, and a grey sweater vest that had the school logo, a sun with a crescent moon, The skirt was the same color as the vest and went past the knees. She was also wearing her purple headband that had two pink and purple stripe on the left. This was her unique headband because it reminded her of happier days.
As she was rushing out, she saw a wedding photo of her mother and father; Oh, how happy and carefree they looked. Why couldn't it be like that again? She turned her head away and rushed out of the door.
FLASHBACK
-
Twilight was sitting on her family porch, reading a book about Socrates. Suddenly she looked up to see her father. "Mom, Daddy's home!" she shouted as she ran up to him. Her eyes shone with child-filled happiness. Nightlight Sparkle bent down to hug his little Einstein, "How's my little girl?" He picked her up. Daisy Sparkle could be seen at the doorway in an apron waiting for them. She smiled "Hello, Dear. How was work?"
Nightlight put Twilight down, looking sad for a moment he handed her a pink slip. "The company thought it best to 'restructure the factory' so...", he frustrated ruffled up his hair.
"You were fired…," Daisy whispered hoping that Twilight wouldn't hear, but the little girl stopped smiling. She sighed. As she was thinking about what to do. Her husband changed the subject. "Guess who has the chance to take the Honors Tests into Canterlot Academy!" Both Twilight and Daisy both couldn't believe it. Twilight had wanted to go there! It was the best school in the nation (and said to have the most extensive collection of books).
"You mean I can go to Canterlot," it still hadn't sunk in just yet. But as it did, Twilight had mixed feelings. How could that even matter right now when her father didn't have a job, but she didn't let her worry show on her face. Nightlight rubbed Twilight's hair.
"You have to pass the entrance exam first...with 100% preferably!", he chuckled, quite confident that she would. "Now, how about we celebrate this the right way, with cookies." He winked at Twilight who jumped up and down. Suddenly, a police car drove into the driveway. Nightlight Sparkle wanted to ask what they were here for, but they already started calling for him to go with them He calmly complied, holding his hands up. Daisy grabbed Twilight close to her.
WHAM! The officer took out her nightstick and beat Nightlight to the ground. He bit his lip to keep from making a sound. He didn't want to provoke them further or scare Twilight. He looked at Twilight, trying to pretend it didn't hurt. Twilight screamed and wanted to run up to her father, but her mother held her back for she knew what would happen if they interfered.
Nightlight Sparkle had gone to jail without there being any evidence that he had committed the crime. He didn't care because he knew that his family would at least believe in him. But after going home from seven months in prison, Daisy had developed a drinking problem; their finances had slipped, and she had to sell the house.
TODAY
-
Twilight eyes glittered with tears for a moment, but then she regained her composure. "See you spike, you be a good dog and keep intruders out of the house," Twilight said as she walked out. "Bark Bark" (Of course, I'll guard this door with my life!).
Twilight stood at her bus stop which was just across the street from her house. She sighed in frustration as she noticed her familiar harassers approaching.
"Well, well look who we got here Snips and Snails," Twilight stated in a monotone. It was the same old thing.
"Oh look, it's Sparkle girl. Attending a fancy school instead of the one that's just down the street. This know-it-all thinks she's better than that or something. You wish!" Snips keeled over.
"Hehehehehe!" Snails came uncomfortably close to twilight. He grabbed her by the jaw, and she glared. She slapped his hand away.
"How about you two losers leave me alone!" She yelled! A girl came into view.
Twilight turned and saw it was Candace, Queen of the Kings gang.
"Oh come on! Why do you always defend 'little miss academy'!?", one of the harassers grumbled.
"You heard what I said Taurus, or do you want Terik to remind you how things roll with the Kings," Candace said sternly ready to teach the boys lesson if need be. Her eyebrow was raised prepared to hear a response and take action quickly. The men stepped back and left, not wanting to anger the gang leader's favorite lieutenant. Twilight gave a sigh of relief. She was safe for now.
"Thanks, Candace. I wish the bus would get here already!"
Cadence smile and patted Twilight on the back "No problem Lil' sis. Hey, how about I stay with you till the bus arrives." Twilight nodded modestly, "I would love that, please." Both stood at the bus stop in silence till the bus came. Twilight boarded it, and wave to Candace goodbye.
