Part 4: A Brief History Lesson

The corridors towards Lex's office

I followed behind Lois and Lex as the door to her room gradually blended into the steel grey corridors of the military facility. Ahead of me Lex kept looking back at me. Did he know where I had been? I avoided his gaze as the thought of him knowing of what I had done. I thought to myself that if he suspected me of breaking and entering to see her… Diana. What were they up to with her?

"So, Colonel Trevor…" Lois said breaking the silence between us. "Was the one who brought 'it' here?"

Trevor, that was the name of the man torturing Diana. I felt a slight rage burn with in me. What matter of man lays a hand on a woman? I looked up to see Lex looking past Lois and looking right at me. He smirked.

"Hello. I'm taking to you here," Lois said as she snapped her fingers in Lex's face. "We were in the middle of something before…"

Lois pointed at me.

"… this moron back there got lost…"

Lex didn't answer her, he just kept looking at me.

"You fought in the war Mr…" Lex began.

"Kent, Clark Kent," I signed.

"… Oh yes," Lex continued. "Kent. From Smallville, Kansas…"

I nodded. Lois looked shocked.

"How was that even possible?" she asked. "You are defective…"

Her words sting.

"No Lois…" Lex said as he stands toe to toe with me.

He looked up into my face.

"… he is perfect," Lex continued as his eyes stared into mine. "And yes, Colonel Trevor did recover the asset Lois."

Lex's eyes searched my face for a reaction.

I mouthed, "She has a name…"

In the silence of my moving mouth Lex cracked a smile.

"… Diana was it?" he asked. "My Morse code is a little rusty..."

I bear my teeth slightly. Lois rushed up between us.

"Both of you can have your peeing contest after I get my damn story!" she hissed.

Lex looked over the top of Lois's head and nodded at me.

"Forgive my manners Mr. Kent," Lex said as he backed away from Lois and me. "I must admit I am a little jealous. The asset has been with us for months. I would have liked to have been the first to communicate with her."

I frown as he referred to her has as a 'thing', but I knew to just let it go. If I wanted to see her again I would need to stay on this man's good side. Lex gestures for Lois and I to follow him once more. As we walked Lex kept looking back at me every so often in between his speaking with Lois. He never answered any of her question directly. Constantly shifting away from any real answers about Diana save Trevor acquired her for the benefit of the US military. Finally reaching what seems to be his office Lex.

"Why do you call her an asset?" I signed.

Lex watched my fingers as the move.

"Because where we found her, she is a God," Lex replied.

Room 1941

"Oh, I missed up too," I heard Trevor's voice hiss. "Diana…"

My skin crawled as I heard him speak. Thankfully I got the creature Clark out of this room before...

"… come now," he continued to hiss as he walked towards me. "What do you say when someone says they missed you?"

I spat at him as I pulled against my chains.

"… Oh, that fighting spirit Diana," he continued as he leaned into my face.

"Betrayer!" I hissed.

"Aww poor naïve goddess," he continued as his hand brushed against my cheek.

"Showing mercy isn't naïve!" I growled back. "You would have died if I didn't intervene. My sisters would have killed you…"

"And look where your kindness got you, here with me," he continued as he leaned in for a kiss. "And at my mercy…"

I watch his face lean in towards me. His lips press against mine forcing my mouth open. I bite down hard against his lips. The taste of blood filled my mouth. Trevor screamed out in pain as he forcible pushed me to the ground.

"Whore!" he hissed.

Wiping the blood from his lips Trevor lifts the baton in his hand and jabbed in deep within my sides. A sharp shock jolted through me and a shouted out in agony. The world began to fade as I felt my body tremble against the cool floor beneath me.

"I will get what we need from War Goddess…" I heard Trevor hiss. "… Circe hasn't been wrong this far. You will give us your power to defeat our enemy…"

Lex's office

Lois rolled her eyes, "A god? Are you on something Dr?

Lex opened his office door and stepped inside before he replied, "Ares apparently, if what the Colonel says is to be believed."

I followed Lex inside his office. There were monitors all over the back wall.

"You are talking nonsense," Lois continued. "Gods aren't real…"

Lex looked at me…

"Will that's what we are trying to find out," Lex continued as he took a seat at his desk. "But until Mr. Kent came she hasn't tried to communicate. As I said this is all based on Colonel Trevor word."

A god. She is a god! Is that how she forced me out of her room? Looking at the monitors behind Lex I noticed one was of Diana's room. Trevor was towering over her.

"Well if she is a 'war god' then she sucks at her job," Lois added as she pointed to the monitor with Diana and Trevor on it. "She got captured…"

Lex folded his hands a top of his desk.

"The Colonel said he had assistance from a woman called Circe," Lex added. "She told him to bind her. If he did so, then she won't be able to free herself. Something about an ancient curse from the gods upon her people."

I felt sick to my stomach.

"Don't mind the Colonel Mr. Kent," Lex said. "You might be able to help make his presence here not necessary."

"Him?" Lois asked puzzled. "All because he knocked on a wall and got an answer…"

"Yes," Lex answered.

Lex looked at me with a smile. He was trying to set me at ease yet somehow his attempted kindness made me feel even more uncomfortable. He was up to something, but what.

"She seems to want to connect with you Mr. Kent," he continued. "If you can get the answers that the military seeks Trevor's presence here will not be needed…"

Lex stopped in mid-sentence and looked behind him to the monitors. Diana was trembling on the floor.

"… and these kinds of actions would stop," Lex said. "So will you help us Mr. Kent?"

I looked from Lex to Diana and back to Lex.

"Will you stop him from hurting her?" I signed.

"Yes," Lex added. "We aren't the bad guys here Mr. Kent. The only reason why she is even here is because the Soviets were looking for her too. We sent Trevor and he got her before they could. If she truly is a god of war, would you want her in their hands?"

"No," I signed.

"So will you help us, will you help me?" Lex asked.

I nodded.

"Good," Lex replied. "I will schedule your first session for next week."

Lois stepped up and cleared her throat, "And my story?"

"Will come in time," Lex answered. "Speak with your father's men Trevor and Cheetah…"

"I want to speak with this so called 'god'," Lois added. "That is the real story…"

"The last him I checked you didn't speak Ancient Greek or understand Morse code, or was my observation incorrect," Lex smirked.

"Fine," Lois hissed. "But I'll get my interview with her!"

"Now if you will excuse me I have work to do," Lex said as he signaled for someone to come inside. "Please escort these Miss Lane and Mr. Kent off the base."

Lois was the first to follower the soldier out of Lex's office. I lingered for a moment as I Looked at Diana shivering on the concrete floor. She was alone with no one to help her. I had to help her because it could be me in chains.

"Until next week Mr. Kent," Lex said.

"Until then," I signed.

I turned and left Lex's office. Lois grumbled about not getting the story she wanted but I tuned her out as we headed back to her car.

"I'll be back," I mouthed. "Diana."

Lex's office

As Clark left my office I couldn't help but smile. All was falling into place.

"False Sun I have found you," I hissed.

With a snap of my fingers my mortal flesh melted away leaving the molten blackness of the core of the sun.

"…And you shall fall by my hand!"
