AN: Soo... chapter 4 up! Feel as though I should have taken more time to read this through before uploading it but I´m afraid that if I don´t upload it now it´s never going to happen.
Long story short, this has been a really chaotic week since my one and a half piece apartment during the course of only one day has now been inhabited by my brother and his cat for an unlimited amount of time, and well... needless to say I´m getting a very, Very strong feeling that my work-space is going to suffer.
So without further delay... hail chapter 4! :P
Strangest in Ikebukuro:
It took minutes for Mikado to process what was actually… right now. This very instant. Taking place. In front of. His naked eyes. While. Wide. Awake.
The black haired boy couldn´t bring himself to move his feet as he petrified watched his Hinamizawa-friend run away with the most dangerous man in Ikebukuro draped over her shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
He could hear some uncharacteristically loud words of protest from the informant as his and Rena´s figures grew smaller and smaller. Looking to his sides he could see the same expression mirrored in Anri´s and Masaomi´s faces as he much assumed he had at this moment, their mouths wide open, their eyes the size of saucers.
"We have to… well we….", Mikado finally managed in making his lips move but struggled to form the words, "well we… need to…"
"Pretty much…", Anri said who´s mouth seemed to have come to life as well, "we should really…"
"Yeah", Masaomi nodded through his petrification, "we should kinda really….", he hawked as the last paralyze finally seemed to let go off him, "…do something".
"We should!" Mikado said as his feet as well finally seemed to realize the gravity of this situation.
The three friends only needed to exchange one look before they started running after the fading figure of their friend.
_._
"I´m flattered to know you find me irresistible enough to drag across the entity of Ikebukuro against my will" Izaya was struggling hard to maintain his nonchalant, teasing mask, "but as it is I have places to go and people to meet so I´d appreciate it very much if you allowed me to walk by myself"
The information broker had been struggling miserably in the slim girl´s arms, wondering where on earth she´d gotten all that strength from until he´d given up, refused to make any more of a fool of himself than he already had and attempted to put those mind twisting skills that had made him so successful in his line of work to good use. He had witnessed Shizuo´s strength many times before and even had a taste of it first hand during the few occasions the blond had managed in landing a clean hit on him with a vending machine, but this girl, this girl….
"Omochikaeiri! Omochikaeri!" she continued shouting happily seemingly oblivious to his words.
Now, Shizu-chan was a protozoan, unpredictable and oblivious to reason once his fury took over, but this girl seemed the very opposite of furious and somehow that made Izaya a thousand times more uncomfortable than the beast of Ikebukuro ever made him feel. She had managed in doing what Shizu-chan never did during their never ending chases and the seeming simplicity of her move had left Izaya more unprepared than any attack Shizou´d ever attempted. She had lifted him up, just like that without him even getting a chance to react, truly an accomplishment considering Izaya flattered himself on having the best reflexes in Ikebukuro.
"I should warn you that I have rather interesting connections" he continued, a lot calmer than he felt, a sweet smile gracing his lips "so as a favor to that pretty face of yours it´d be in your best interest to but me down".
"Omochikaeri, omochikaeri!" her chants of euphoria were if possible even louder than before.
Izaya half considered reaching for his switch-blade but doing so would put him on the same level as Shizu-chan and being even remotely comparable to the beast may potentially be even worse than whatever this buffon of a girl intended to do to him.
"I am in possession of a large sum of money", he attempted with the same calm, "whatever you want I can provide".
"Omochikaeri, omochikaeri!"
Izaya drew the conclusion that she definitely wasn´t after him for his money. It seemed talking himself out of this one would be a difficult task.
"Do you want information?" he tried, "just give me the name and I´ll have all you need to know about them within at most a week".
"Omochikae…"
Izaya had tuned out her voice after that. He concluded that finding his way out of the clutches of this beast would likely turn out to be one of the greatest trials he´d ever faced, but after all he was Izaya Orihara and there was no obstacle Izaya Orihara couldn´t get passed. At least until now that was... the informant sighed as he worked on his escape-plan.
_._
"I can´t believe this!" Masaomi exclaimed in frustration as he stopped to catch his breath, "where the hell could she be?"
Anri sighed as she leaned up against the wall, they´d been looking for the exchange student and her unlikely hostage for over half an hour now and the group had almost given up hope.
Anri at this point didn´t know what to feel, surprised, baffled, scared? What had happened instances before was just to absurd to grasp even for her own less than ordinary standards, underground doctors, headless fairies and last but not least her own hidden curses or gifts depending on how one chose to see it, but what Rena had just done… She had just picked the most dangerous man of Ikebukuro and thrown him over her shoulders as though he´d been no heavier than that teddy-bear she´d had caused such a ruckus over yesterday.
"Well", Mikado hawked looking awkwardly at his two friends, "she did say something about `take home` so perhaps we should just go to the apartment and…"
"And leave her with him for another second?" Masaomi´s voice was practically a roar, "do you realize what kind of person we´re leaving her with?"
A person that was kidnapped by a petite high school student, Anri thought. Had she actually cared for the informant in the slightest she would have been more likely to fear for his safety than Rena´s.
"Over there!"
An exclamation by Mikado suddenly interrupted Anri in her thoughts.
"That looks like her dress, doesn´t it?"
Anri looked the direction of Mikado´s pointed finger and discovered the blue and white clad figure leaning against the wall, in the ally ahead of them.
"It does", she nodded tensed.
"Shall we?" Mikado nodded in the direction of the figure who from where they stood looked like it was catching its breath.
"At least it seems she dropped the creepo off!" Masaomi muttered as he started moving towards the brown haired figure.
As Anri approached the figure, its low muttering grew stronger and stronger and stronger the closer they got.
"He got away, he got away!" Rena chanted as she looked into the wall that she was leaning against, "he got away!"
"Rena?" Mikado said tentatively as he placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Oh?" Rena´s eyes widened as she turned towards the others, her gaze wandering over her surroundings as though she´d just woken up and found herself in Wonderland, "how did I get...?"
Anri exchange a glance with Mikado before looking at Kida who seemed equally clueless as she herself was. Did Rena honestly not remember...? As if to confirm her suspicions Rena blinked twice before looking directly at each one of her three roommates.
"How did I get here?" she said, "when did we..?"
Silence hung between them as Anri exchanged a serious glance with Mikado, his eyes confirming that he clearly knew the gravity of this situation.
"No!" she drew a deep sigh as she seemed to realize something, "it didn´t happen again did it?"
The silence lingered on a little longer before Mikado finally managed in breaking it and open his mouth.
"What, happened again?" he asked gently.
Rena let out a few miserable whines as her large eyes wandered everywhere but on her friends faces.
"It well…", she blushed, "Rena space out sometimes and…", she hawked, "sorry if it causes inconveniences. Now, should we head back before it…?"
Anri exchanged yet another glance with Mikado. No matter what it was she referred to it seemed she didn´t want to talk about it at the moment and judging by the hardly visible nod her friend made Anri figured it best to just follow along with whatever she had decided for now.
"Of course", Mikado gave a broad smile, "we must get a chance to drink our tea before dinner, don´t we?"
"Yes", Masaomi grinned, "can´t allow ourselves to miss out on that goodness, can we? After you my lady!" he extended his hand in an exaggeratedly graceful gesture as he pointed ahead of them.
"Okay", Rena gave a timid smile as she walked towards his pointed hand.
Anri had just started walking after the hesitant brunette as she was interrupted by Mikado´s voice, now a lot more cheerful than instances ago.
"Well, Mr Kida!" he grinned towards his blond friend, "aren´t your forgetting something?"
"What?" the blond boy raised an eyebrow.
"Well…", Mikado´s smile grew positively malicious, "a certain promise you made to the winner of today´s competition".
Again the silence filled the air, but now for a different reason.
"Really?" Masaomi groaned, "haven´t I paid for my arrogance long enough now?"
"A promise is a promise", Anri smiled sweetly as she recalled what they´d been doing before Izaya barged in on their peace of mind, her hand somehow finding its way to the yellow beak that Masaomi had now dropped down the boy´s neck effectively pulling it up to his nose again.
"I won´t forget this!" Masaomi muttered as he raised a warning finger, before lifting his leg up again, flapping his arms up and down, "praah, praah, praaah, praaaah, praaah!"
She could hear both Rena and Mikado utter genuine giggles, and soon joined in with them as they walked towards their apartment. But deep inside she couldn´t help wondering … what exactly Rena meant `happened again`?
_._
Catching his breath Izaya made sure to stay out of public roads. He didn´t know exactly how he´d done it but somehow he´d managed to slide out of the girl´s iron grip and shake her off, but he felt far from safe.
Sitting down on the rooftop that had helped him during his escape he tried to make sense of what had just happened. He lived in a world of dullahans, Saika, men with super human strength and hopefully one day an open door leading straight to Valhalla but school-girls that just randomly threw him over their shoulder and yelled about "taking him for take-out" wasn´t something he´d ever expected to come across, no matter how many obsessive teenage admirers he´d had in his life.
As much as it hurt his pride to do so he actually considered following Shizu-chan´s order and stay away from Ikebukuro, at least for a few days. By then he could if possible gather information of this absurd creature and her intentions, granted she indeed had any and perhaps even see if those powers of hers could be of use to him.
"So, you win for now Shizu-chan", the informant gave a sickly sweet smile, "but don´t flatter yourself".
_._
"Praah, praaah, praaah!" Masaomi made one elegant leap before putting his lifted leg on the floor, overstepping the border between the apartment and the outside world, "and nooow", he sang as he looked back at his three friends, "the nonsense game is over!"
"Too bad", Mikado chuckled as he to stepped inside and started taking of his shoes, "what are we going to entertain ourselves with now?"
But despite of his cheerful words Mikado was in deep thought. What had happened today? Just instances ago? Mikado had spoken to Rena for a year and she seemed to tell him pretty much everything about herself, but what was that just half an hour ago? She had said that she went wild whenever she saw something cute but… she couldn´t seriously think that Izaya was…. How had she even managed such a thing in the first place? It was practically impossible for a girl her size to…
"So", he looked from face to face as he pretended as though his friend hadn´t just attempted to kidnap one of Tokyo´s most dangerous men, "shall we get started on that tea?"
"Yeah", Masaomi nodded with a raised brow, "but you do it, or miss Sonohara", he glanced at his tormentor for the day, "because I´m taking a seat on the couch, my right leg hurts like hell!" he groaned slightly as he made his way to the living-room, "you guys have set up one hell of a situation for yourselves for the coming weeks".
The coming weeks, Mikado smiled inwards despite of his current thoughts. Chances were of course that his friend´s thirst for revenge would land Mikado in a similar this situation sooner than he´d expect but he decided the risk was definitely worthwhile to see Masaomi repeat this show once or twice. After all, old-maid didn´t truly seem to be his game.
"Green or black tea?" he heard Anri calling from the kitchen.
"Black!" he heard himself say without hesitation. After all he could use the calming effect after today´s to say the least peculiar event.
"Green!" Masaomi held up his hand with a grin.
"Errhm…, green!" Rena said with a timid smile, her gaze slightly facing the floor.
Looking over his Hinamizawa-friend´s confused facial expression he truly wondered if revealing it to her was that great an idea. Having known Rena for as long as he knew how embarrassed she could get when being caught doing things that were considered out of the norm, and as much as he knew that today´s event may lead to trouble later on his heart couldn´t bear putting her through such mental torture during her first official day in Tokyo. Besides, there would always be other occasions to tell her. Like tomorrow, like the day after, like a month after, like neve….
"Mikado-kun, Masaomi-kun", her eyes turned wide as she looked at the two boys as though she´d read his mind, "what exactly did Rena take this time?"
"Well you…" Masaomi started before Mikado gave him a hardly visible headshake.
"A pillow", Mikado said, sweating heavily, "there was a kid passing us by carrying a pillow, but we brought it back to her, so don´t worry".
"Oh!" Rena drew a sigh of relief, "at least it wasn´t the child this time. Imagine if I´d actually kidnapped someone!" she giggled softly, "that would have been really bad!"
Over Rena´s shoulder he could see Masaomi rolling eyes at Mikado´s bad excuse but sharing his friend´s expression of horror as he as well seemed to come to terms with what exactly her reply meant.
"Yes", Mikado laughed hoping he did a good job hiding his nervousness, "yes, that would have been…. really bad!"
Yes, that would have been, really, really bad! Mikado moaned miserably from inside as he tried not to think about what Rena´s almost-kidnap-victim may be plotting this instant.
AN: Welp... short chapter is short! But I hope it was enjoyable. Next chapter will introduce Shizu-chan so for those of you wondering where he is, you won´t have to wait for long :D.
Guest - Yeah, Izaya has a horrible personality but yet he somehow manages to be cuter than even Hanyuu in my opinion. I guess it´s something about his childishness and utter sillyness that makes even the most awful things seem well... harmless lol. Anyway, thanks for your comment , I honestly thought it would take centuries for anyone to find this story since Higurashi x Durarara don´t seem to have that many fans :).
Well... the chapter 5 will be out... I don´t know when :P. But until then, if you know anyone that would be interested in an Higurashi x Durara-fic, direct them here. Until next time! :D
