Chapter 4 - Peppermint Creams

Angelic: Once I had posted the third chapter the reviews flooded in like crazy! I was so happy from your support I decided to get stuck into another chapter! Hope you enjoy!

Lavi: Will I be in this chapter?

Angelic: Maybe.

Lavi: Will Allen?

Angelic: Obviously.

Lavi: *sigh*

Angelic: Don't you sigh at me. I said maybe didn't I?

Lavi: Is Yuu going to be in this chapter?

Angelic: Yes He- STOP MAKING ME SPOIL THE STORY!

I do NOT own D Gray Man. (I wish)

"Allen-kun?"

"Hm?"

"Do you think I should buy lollipops or chocolate?"

"Why not both?"

"That's true, you can never have enough candy. Would you like to buy something?"

"Sure, let me take a quick look around." Replied Allen as he stalked down the crowded aisles of the candy store, barely hearing Road's voice over the volume of the surrounding crowd. He stopped at a shelf labelled ' Peppermint Creams ' In small golden letters. There were a few transparent bags of white and brown chocolates each the size of a penny. He lifted the bag and carried it to the counter. "Peppermint Creams?" Questioned Road as he passed it over to the cashier. "An interesting choice Allen-Kun." She took the bag of chocolate from the cashiers hand before Allen could even reach out. Untying the ribbon she slipped a chocolate into her mouth.

"At first quite sharp and strong, but then slowly melting on the tongue and soothing you with a minty taste." She explained and picked up another, holding it up for Allen to eat. He opened his mouth obediently as she fed him the Peppermint cream. She was right, it was as though he was standing outside on the first day of winter. The taste was exhilarating, Allen wondered why he had never bought Peppermint creams before. Road handed him the bag and turned back to the cashier to pay for her own candy. Humming slightly Allen ate another one of his chocolates before scanning the street outside the frosted window. It was a bustle of figures wrapped in thick furs and cloaks. Each hurrying, fearing the flurry of cold that swept past every so often. So chilling it would make even an open flame freeze over.

It truly was December. Many of the shops allotted on the sides of the street were lit up with small lights, and tinsel was twisted around the lampposts. The streets were filled with the sounds of Christmas carols and merry greetings. A hand on his shoulder signalled that Road had finished paying for her candy and it was time to leave the warmth of the store. Allen pushed his bag of chocolate into his coat pocket as they opened the door, the small bell tinkling slightly as they departed.

The thin layer of frost on the ground crunched gently underfoot as three figures trekked down the streets of a small festive town. Kanda stopped walking suddenly, causing Lavi to crash into him and fall backwards onto the pavement in a muddled heap. "Ouch! Yuu~!" The redhead whined whilst getting back up slowly from the ground and brushing bits of dirt off his trousers . Lenalee strode past them both, checking a small map of the town them were presently visiting. "This is definitely the direction Timcanpy pointed, so he must be somewhere here..." Mused the girl quietly to herself. She jumped when a hand touched her shoulder. "Why are you so uptight about finding Allen? All you need to do is call out his favourite food and he'll come running!" Exclaimed Lavi with a wink. He put his hands to his mouth and took a very deep breath. Kanda placed his hands in his ears and started to walk away, not wanting to be seen associating with a crazy rabbit.

" ROAST BEEF! DANGO! ICE CREAM! HAMBURGERS!"

There was a moment of silence before Lavi started shouting again.

CHOCOLATE! RAMEN! CANDY- "He paused." Lenalee, do you know Allen's favourite candy?" questioned Lavi. "Isn't it sherbet or something?" She replied randomly whilst examining the shop windows, not really caring at the moment.

"Wrong."

The trio whirled around to face a dark figure in the shadows of the sidewalk. It seemed to be waiting outside a tailors. What it was waiting for, the three exorcists had no idea. Lenalee was the first to utter a syllable, her eyes narrowed in deep suspicion. "Who are you?" The shape giggled slightly, making Kanda place his hand on Mugen, ready to act on a moments notice. "Considering that the Candy shop is just down the street, I'm amazed you haven't guessed." Lavi was the second to click, after all he wasn't a Bookman's apprentice for nothing. He hand zoomed automatically to his pocket where his hammer was glowing, feeling the need to fight. "Show yourself!" Cried Lenalee, Kanda would have face palmed if he hadn't wanted to keep his pride. That girl was unbelievable.

"I'm just waiting for someone, Why so frightened?" Said the person , amused. "We're not here for jokes, Road." Replied Lavi as the said Noah stepped out of the shadows, a wide grin etched on her dark face. She reached in her pocket to pull out a small red lollipop, unwrapping the plastic she sucked on the candy happily. "Would you happen to know where Allen is?" Questioned Lenalee, her gaze never straying away from the young Noah girl. Instead of answering her question Road looked thoughtful and said "Let me ask you something Lenalee, have you ever been betrayed by anyone?" Kanda and Lavi looked surprised and glanced at the female exorcist, who shook her head. "Then you wouldn't understand how he is feeling." Lenalee was confused, Who was Road talking about? "I don't know what you mean." She replied. The young Noah rolled her eyes in exasperation. "Are you blind? Lenalee? Do you not see what has happened?" Lenalee once again looked curious and slightly affronted at these questions. "If you're not going to tell me what this is all about, then fine!" The exorcist stated loudly, activating her dark boots. "I didn't come here to have a chat anyway!"

Before Lenalee could land even a single strike her path was blocked. Road smirked from behind the dark swirls of cloak that covered this new person. He seemed strangely familiar to her. "Don't you dare lay a finger on Road." He hissed. Raising his head, Lenalee let out a gasp and stepped back. Lavi froze and Kanda's breath hitched in his throat.

It was Allen.

But he was different, there was no kindness or passion behind his golden eyes. Hatred and mirth stared them in the face. His shock of white hair clashed against his darkened skin tone, darker than any normal human and the Noah insignia had already spread across his forehead. Crowned Clown seemed to be activated, however it was a cloak of black and a purple cross of dark matter on the back of his hand. His innocence had completely diminished and in its place dark matter lived on. The three exorcists stared on in shock, was this really their friend from all that time ago?"

"Its your welcome party, Allen-kun."

"... Arigatou everyone!"

"Three cheers for Allen! Our newest exorcist!"

"Hip hip... Hooray!"

"Hip hip... Hooray!"

"Hip hip-"

"You've changed so much, Allen-kun," Said Lenalee softly, her gaze calculating. Allen's expression of hatred never changed. "And who do you think is to blame for that?" He asked coldly. Road wove her arms around him from behind and hugged him, making the exorcists cringe in disgust and Kanda feel a burn of... Jealousy? "Allen-kun," The female Noah whispered in his ear. "You shouldn't have. I could have taken them." Allen smiled slightly at his companion. "I know, I just had a sudden urge to protect you." Road blushed slightly but it was unnoticeable due to her dark skin tone.

Kanda couldn't believe it. This was all his fault.

If only he had stopped them. If only he had stood up for Allen. If only he had stayed with him instead of pushing him away. If only he had supported his comrade when they were in peril. But no, he had to let his big stupid ego cloud his vision. He couldn't even see that his own friend was crying. So many things he could have done to prevent this from happening.

For the first time in a long time, Kanda felt ashamed of himself.

Lavi didn't know what to think.

Allen had been his good friend, right? Although Bookmen weren't meant to have friends. Had he been betraying Allen from the beginning? Maybe that's what this hurting in his heart was? Yes, Allen was his friend. Was, and still is. That is why Lavi realised he had to save him. But then he noticed the two Noah blushing and looking happy. Had Allen already been saved? If so, then there was no point to this mission.

He hated it when people fought without reason.

Lenalee was getting angry.

How dare this freak talk back to her. She had treated him like family and yet that still wasn't enough for him. Then the idiot Noah had showed up and completely ruined everything for her. She was itching to deliver a good kick to Road Camelots head. Why weren't her fellow exorcists backing her up? Had they been brainwashed? She gritted her teeth in frustration.

Why did everything have to go wrong?

"Allen-kun." Said Road as she eyed the exorcist cautiously. "We should leave anyway, they're not worth fighting." Allen seemed reluctant but sighed in defeat. "We are not finished here!" Lenalee said hotly. "Yes we are." Road replied, summoning one of her heart-shaped doors. Realising this was her last chance to get Allen, Lenalee dashed forward in desperation only to be held back by a pair of strong arms. She twisted around to stare into the green eyes of Lavi. "What the hell are you doing?! They're going to escape!" She screeched and struggled violently. But as she turned back to the retreating Noah she only caught a glimpse of the door before they disappeared. She was released and instantly rounded on Lavi.

"What the hell?! What were you doing?! You two faced-"

SLAP

Lenalee's head swung to the side as she was hit on the cheek. It wasn't a full-blown slap but it still stung. Her shoulders were grabbed by Lavi, who was trembling.

"No! What are you doing Lenalee?!" He yelled at her. She shook him off at once at glared. "I know perfectly well what I'm doing and if you're going to hold me back then I don't need you!" And with that she stalked off down the street away from the pair. Lavi stared after her in disbelief. What had happened to her? He turned back to Kanda who seemed to be in a state of shock.

And just like that, they were defeated. The shock of their loss still lingering, just like the strong aftertaste of a peppermint cream.

Lavi: Wow, that was an intense chapter.

Komui: yep *Drinking coffee*

Lavi: Put the coffee down! We have feedback to answer!

Komui: Sorry. *Pulls out envelope from nowhere* The first is from Scourge From BloodClan. *opens envelope*

Sweet chapie , mate ! I bet my name that Road will take Allen to the others ! And i don't know if there will be any deaths but I kinda hope there will * evil smirk * . Wonder what Allen's Noah powers will be ? Last question will this be a Road x Allen ? Fufufufu Sadistic Allen and Sadistic Road * evil laugh * now THAT would be an awesome pairing !

Lavi: Thanks for your review. To answer your questions, yes, this will be Allen x Road. I know the author is going for sadistic Road and maybe Allen too. You'll just have to find out! Character death may also be there, but the author doesn't like killing off too many people.

Komui: Next letter! It's from Seraph Amethyst.

Wow. Komui and Lenalee are... idiots. WHAT THE HECK THE MATTER WITH THEM?! Is Kanda the only one left with common sense in the whole Order?! Dang... That's just sad. *hides in fear* No offense, of course, Kanda! *clenches fists* Allen or Road better kill or maim Lenalee to knock some sense into her. I can see her going, "Oh, Allen! Why did you kill Link and the exorcist?" and Allen and Road going, "...Can I kill her now?" And YES, you SHOULD make Allen kill someone, even if it is a nondescript human *smiles*

Lavi: Wow. That is an impressive review. I like this Seraph Amethyst character. Thanks for the feedback, it really does help the author write more chapters so keep on giving your ideas! To answer that last review, the author is seriously considering character death now. But she's not going to tell you just yet. Heheheheheee.

Komui: ... *Drinks coffee*

Lavi: Pass me a cup.

Komui: *Hands Lavi another cup*

Lavi: *sips coffee* There you have it viewers! If your review wasn't answered then the author says she is sorry and she loves you all! Please keep reviewing. See you in the next chapter. Where hopefully I'll get even more screen time!

Komui: At least you were in this chapter.

Lavi: Yep. SUCKS TA BE YOU!
