Sorry for not upgating for a while between school and life and writers block its been kind of hard to write. If anyone has any ideas for my next chapter please let me know. Here is chapter 4 (finally).

Waking up

"Sam?" Abigail asked.

Hearing his name Sam woke up from the hospital chair. "Abbie, it's so nice to see you awake and to hear your voice." Sam replied reaching over to grab her hand. "Abbie this is my friend Ed. " Sam said.

"Oh, hi. Hey, Sam I'm thirsty." She said before taking a sip of the water Sam handed to her. "Sam why do you look so tired?" She questioned taking in his features.

"Don't worry about is Abs." Sam said trying to look more awake.

"What happened Sam?" Abbie asked him trying to get some answers.

"Not now Abbie, we will talk later." Sam replied, knowing she wouldn't drop it.

"But Sam,"

"No Abbie, we are not going to talk about this right now." Sam interrupted.

"YOU CAN'T PROTECT ME FOREVER SAM!" Abbie yelled, irratating her lungs, sending her into a coughing fit. What Abbie didn't see, but Ed did was how close to home that statement hit Sam. Their small argument took a lot out of both Abbie and Sam.

"You guys both need some rest so why don't I take you home Sam and we can let Abbie get some sleep too." Ed said trying to diffuse the situation. Neither one really liked that option because Sam didn't want Abbie to be alone and Abbie didn't want to be alone, but both were so stubborn that neither one would actually admit to it. Just then there was a knock at the door and Natalie poked her head in.

"Hey Abbie you're awake!" Natalie said, smiling walking into the room with the team trailing right behind her.

"Abbie these are our teammates if you are up for meeting people." Ed said turning to look meaningfully at Sam. The team walked into the room with big balloons and stuffed animals, making Abbie hide in her pillow.

"Hello Abbie I'm Kevin Wordsworth but everybody me Wordy." Wordy said placing balloons and stuffed animals on the floor. They went through all the introductions in about 20 minutes.

"Ok Abbie, Wordy, Greg, and Jules are going to stay with you for a bit. I'm going to take Sam home to get some sleep and Spike is going to take Nat home." explained shoving Sam out the door.

The car was silent as Ed and Sam left the hospital. "Sam she's going to be fine and we will find whoever did this." Ed said trying to reassure Sam. After Sam didn't respond for a few minutes Ed tried a different approach for conversation. "Do you remember the first time I met Abbie? It was about 2 years ago you were shot on a hot call. When the team arrived there was a young girl sitting next to you crying. I walked in wondering who she was and what she was doing here. She jumped when she heard the door open. It took her a couple of minutes to relax and know it was ok. She begged me to tell her the whole story. We were probably there for about an hour and a half or two hours. I told her about the job and what we do. By the time I was done the rest of the team was gone. I drove her home that night even though she has that same stubborn look about her that you have. I haven't seen her since that night. I didn't even recognize the name but when I saw her laying there the pieces clicked. She will pull through Sam I know that much." Ed said, he saw tears rolling down the younger man's face as he told his story.

"Ed do you ever, just ever think that if one thing changed past that everything would be ok?"

"Sam don't you dare even think about blaming yourself. Just think about it this way if you were there and you didn't find it you would be dead to." Ed said as Sam slowly nodded his head. Ed said as they pulled into Sam's parking space of his apartment building

After Ed made sure Sam was asleep he grabbed himself a beer and texted the team that Sam was asleep and taken care of. Ed also slept for a little bit on Sam's couch since everything was ok.
