Catching Love

Disclaimer: I do not own Pokemon…but you already knew that.

Hilbert: Huh. Back to this?

Ethan: I thought he was done with Pokemon.

Calem: I doubt anyone can be done with Pokemon or even Digimon. This one-shot is about Sun and Moon, featuring Sun and Lusamine.

Love For A Mom?

Lillie stands with Kukui at the Marina at Hau'oli City. The blue night shadows over the surrounding waters, illumination only possible by the tiny decorations in the sky. Our blond girl in white fusses with the straps of her backpack, nervous at what she's about to do.

"Lillie, you know that Kanto is pretty far from here right?" asks Kukui with a depressed tone. "Just so you know the lab is open for you. You can come back any time you wish."

"Is…is Burnet not coming?" she asks looking around for the shirtless professor's wife.

He gives a sigh. "She's not coming. She couldn't, not to say goodbye. She's not really good at farewells."

"It's not really goodbye," she says as reassurance. "I can come back."

"Then why haven't you told Sun or Hau?"

A guilty expression forms on her face, as she looks away with her own sigh. "I…"

"Lillie!" She flinches at the sudden shout of her name, before turning around to see Hau out of breath in front of her. "You were leaving and you didn't tell us?!"

"Lillie," speaks Sun, having to pause to catch his breath as well.

"Hau, Sun-kun, I'm sorry," she begins, her luxurious green eyes darting seriously at her two friends. They focus more on Hau as if avoiding the gaze from our solar protagonist. "I have to go to Kanto."

"Why?"

"Three reasons." She holds up her hand showing three fingers. "1, there's someone there who can help my mother recover. 2, more than that, I want to get stronger myself." She closes her eyes for a brief beat and reopens them. "I know it's sad to leave Alola, but the thought of going to Kanto also fills my heart with excitement! I want to become a real trainer just like you two, and meet all kinds of wonderful Pokemon."

Sun steps forward. It's his turn to ask her a question. "And the third reason?"

Lillie inhales deeply from her nose, remembering that time.

"Back when you were small, you would listen to everything I said, without question. For a time, even you were adorable to me, but you've changed! You've become ugly, ever since you met this boy and learned to defy your own mother! SUN! You hateful little Trainer! How dare you intrude upon this world that was meant for US?! It is not to be borne! And with Nihilego's power, I will show you how wrong you were to come here!"

After taking a breather, she blinks before saying, "You."

"…eh?"

"3, my mother's health will only deteriorate if she knows you're around me or her."

There's another brief beat before an ensuing scream escapes his mouth. "HUH?!"

"What did you do to her mom?" Quick is the dark-skinned teen to ask his rival the backstory of this situation. Unfortunately, our solar protagonist is just as perplexed as the rest, hands waving back and forth at a speed matched only by his head. "You must have done something!"

"When we brought her back, remember her reaction?" Lillie begins, causing the teen to have his own flashback.

Flashback…

"Sun-kun!" Lillie says calling out to her friend. He comes in through the door and enters to see Lusamine in the hospital bed with a heart monitor strapped to her. "Thanks for coming to visit."

"Of course I came."

As he steps forth, the sick mother looks up to see him. Her eyes widen staring at the boy before her heart beat starts going faster. "No. Get away! Don't take her away from me!" The doctors quickly push her down as she continues to scream.

"What?" The confused boy watches as Lusamine hysterically freaks out before Lillie takes his hand guiding him out the room. His eyebrows furled upward, he asks her, "What's going on?"

"Please, just stay out here."

End Flashback…

"Every time she saw you or heard your name, she would freak out. The poison affected her mind more than anything else, and you seem to be the trigger. That's why it's best you keep away from her," is her explanation, something hard to swallow for the boy.

"I know it'll be scary, but I won't give up. Because of the smiles you and Hau shared with me, I know I can make it. That's why I…someday…someday I'll come back to Alola again!" She tries to smile again here, which comes off more crooked than an upside down umbrella.

Hau is not pleased if his rapid head and hand movements weren't obvious enough. "But…but I haven't said any of the things I wanted to say to you! Damn it!" He stomps the ground. "So, I'll send you a letter! A really long one! Maybe every day!"

Her smile rises like a tidal wave as she goes up to hug Hau, his normally darker cheeks now a hue scarlet in coloration. She then goes to her Sun-kun, holding a Pokedoll in the shape of a Clefairy. "Sun-kun, it may be a little worn, but…that's just because this was my most treasured belonging once."

"Th-Thank you."

"Bye, Sun-kun." Lillie makes a nod to him, hugging the boy with all her might. She then boards the ship, as it takes off with her and the other passengers. As she watches, drops of tears fall from her face into the fleeting ocean, the last part of her to remain in Alola.

The three males watch as she disappears over the horizon, the professor giving a sigh of regret. "I'm going to miss that girl."

"Ngh…" Hau gets the sniffles. Tears pour down the side of his eyes like a broken dam as he keeps them on the ocean.

"Hau, Sun, I know what it's like when you can't help but cry," says Kukui, eyes overshadowed by his glare-free visors. "But you know, when you say goodbye to someone you love, the best thing you can do is show them one last smile."

"Yeah. I think I wanna go see grandpa!"

"Yeah! We all got families we have waiting for us here. Life goes on after all."

As his friends take their leave, Sun remains standing. His hands hold the doll close to his chest. His eyes keep their focus on the black horizon. Tears drop down by and on his feet. "Lillie, thank you for not saying goodbye."

One Year Later…

"I'm heading off," says Sun as he boards the ship.

"Make sure you change your underwear! You know how you forget!" shouts his mother, causing a bright red shade to expand upon his face. "And tell Lillie I said hello!"

"Mom…" he mutters, as the boat takes him away.

On board, he sits placidly in a chair as he stares up at the changing skies. He checks down at a letter in his hand, reading it:

"Sun-kun, it's been so long since we've last seen each other face to face. As much as I'd like to come visit, considering mother's treatments have reached a breakthrough recently, she still needs to remain for a bit. But, she wants to see you. If it's not too much trouble, please come visit. It'll be great for me and my mother."

"Lillie…" While glad he can go see her, that's actually surprising for her mother to actively call him out.

There must be more to this.

After finally reaching the Kanto region, Sun dismounts holding a bag of his gear on his back on Vermillion City's soil. He takes out a Pokeball and sends out Naganadel. Boarding his Pokemon, he says, "To Cerulean City!"

With no response, he groans realizing what's wrong. "Gotta go by foot huh?" While reluctant, he heads towards the floral lagoon city just two city's north of his position. Unfortunately, the Ride Pokemon don't extend past Alola.

By nightfall he touches down Cerulean City, searching for Cerulean General Hospital. 'I better check in to a hotel after this.' Once he enters the hospital he approaches the front desk, until he hears someone calling out to him.

"Sun-kun!" Hearing that unmistakable word, he turns to his left to spot the girl who left him so long ago. She looks a little taller and…bigger than before, almost like her mother, in the 12 months they've been apart. This comes to mind when she hugs him, and his face turns red. "I'm so glad we're together again."

"Lillie," he says, hugging her back a bit. "What's wrong?"

"Like I said," she begins, releasing him, "mother wants to meet you. She was insistent that you visit her as soon as possible, so you two could talk."

The blond then guides him towards the steps, up the steps, down the length of the hallway, towards Lusamine's room. She opens the door, revealing the 40 plus-year-old mother. "Mother, he's here." Seeing her, Sun holds himself internally.

She sits in her bed under the veil of the yellow light bulbs above her. Dressed in a white hospital gown, her beauty remains intact like he expected. Her hair which was formerly a fuchsia, black hybrid when they rescued her is back to the platinum golden shine only matched by her daughter, and maybe Cynthia if Lucas is to be believed. Her emerald eyes open up and gaze upon him.

There his heart restarts in fear. He remembers seeing them before, the madness within. Has she recovered? Words will only reveal. "Hello again, Sun-kun." She's mocking him. For some reason, he feels she's mocking him, by calling him by how Lillie does.

"Mother, if it's okay to ask-"

"Can you give us a moment?" she asks immediately, eyes never leaving her male target. "We need to have a talk, alone."

Taking the hint, Lillie obediently takes a bow before making her exit out the door. As the door closes behind, the stench of tension fumes within the room. Lusamine makes a smile, scaring him.

"Lusamine, did you really recover?" he asks, his tone forcibly polite.

"You don't believe me?" she asks as condescending as possible. "Then why bother coming if you weren't confident I had recovered? Or, is the all-mighty Sun-kun powerless to the voice of the girl he loves so dearly?"

"I wanted to believe it was true, that her avoiding me was worth it in the end and that you recovered from the poison of Nihilego. Did it work?"

She makes a nod to him. "Yes. My head is clear. I remember how you risked your life to protect her, and save me. You went through all that trouble, for the girl you love, who rejected you just so her family could stay together."

"Why are you mocking me?"

"Do you want to be a part of my family?"

"W-Well, let's not go that far yet. We haven't even dated yet."

"I'm gonna need a better commitment sentence than that," is her reply. She then looks down at herself, right where her legs are. "Less she suffers what I did."

"Suffer?"

"What do you know about Lillie's father?" That's a rather odd question.

"Just that…nothing."

"As a professor working for the Aether Foundation, he was the first person who confirmed the existence of Ultra Wormholes and Ultra Beasts; he was the progenitor of that project…" That opens up a bit of detail for Sun. "Five years before Lillie ran away, he vanished while on a mission trying to connect to an Ultra Wormhole. All we found was that weakened Cosmog that she dubbed Nebbie, some papers on Nihilego, and a theory on the wormholes…"

Sun looks at her with wide eyes. "Then, when you went to-"

"Before she left, I met him again. Mohn came back to Aether Paradise, fat and hairy." At that, Sun sweat drops a bit when he realizes that name and description fits someone he knows. "Mohn also forgot about us. Whatever, wherever he was, he forgot about his family…I tried to speak to him, to get him to stay, but he didn't want to. He left, and I never saw him again." Her sheet just above her legs become wetter as her voice shrinks. "He…will never remember us, and I'll never hold him in my arms again."

"Wow…" Some things start adding up for Sun. "Is that why you did all those things?"

"…" The gorgeous woman now faces Sun. "Lillie and Gladion are the only families I have left, and I will not let her leave me just so you can be happy."

"I'm not going to take her away from-" She quickly gets up and grabs hold of him. "Lusamine?"

"Then prove it. You want to be in this family, you gotta earn your keep," she says, staring deep into his eyes.

"How?" Lusamine walks over to the door and opens it, where Lillie stands patiently.

"Lillie, be polite and get us some dinner from the store. We'll all be sleeping here tonight."

"Okay mom," she says before making her leave.

Once gone she closes the door and grabs Sun's arm. "Eh?" He then tosses him to the bed face up. "W-wait, what are you-"

"If you resist then I'll take that as a sign that you won't comply with my demands." These are the last things she says before her chest and lips match up with his. Her hands glide south, causing a trail of crimson to leak out his nostril.

The rest is not silent.

Sun: (eyes widened) Did that just happen?

Hilbert: Has there been a Sun x Lusamine fic before? No? Okay.

Sun: I might have a problem with this.
