A/N: Maybe slightly less depressing than the others have been. The thing is… I haven't seen any episodes in such a long time so I'm losing inspiration… agh. Well anyway, hope you like it!I Know You're Lonely and Wonderwall lyrics
There's only one way/for you to heal
Raven drummed her fingers on the hard wood of the table and waited for the supervisor. She had been called to see him, so there was only one possibility: she was going to be fired. She could find a new community easily, so she wasn't concerned. She would, however, like him to hurry up and tell her that so she could start looking for that new place.
"You're being transferred."
Raven raised an eyebrow. This had been unexpected. "Transferred where, exactly?"
"Just the next county over. It's a very small community. They need another librarian; the other one retired."
"That's fine." She decided quickly. What did she care if she went to a different community?
"Okay, great!" This supervisor seemed a little excitable. "Can you start next month, you know get your stuff in order now…"
"Yep." Raven turned and started out the door.
"Oh! It's a much cooler climate, though, so you probably won't see the spring flowers until mid-May, at least. That's the only downside."
Raven shrugged her shoulders and continued out the door. As far as she was concerned, that was a pro, not a con. Less of the cheery but soulless warm weather was fine with her. The next few weeks went by quicker than normal as Raven packed up the house and got it ready to sell. It made her a profit since she fixed it up with her powers. Soon she was moving, driving higher up into the mountains to her new home.
This community was even smaller than the one she had left. She hadn't thought that was possible. Her town didn't have a thousand people. The local paper had asked to do an interview with her, for crying out loud.
It was a farming community, so she didn't expect to see much traffic at the library. She moved into her new house, a small old one adjacent to a cemetery, over a weekend and started at the library that Monday.
Raven met the other librarian (not the retired one). Her name was Miss Elena, and she gave Raven a funny, almost knowing look when Raven commented on how empty the library must normally be.
It was packed. And everyone seemed to be checking out in her line, rather than Elena's. Normally, it was very easy to keep her cool, but after a few hours of this madness she was starting to go insane.
Eventually it started to wane. "Miss Elena, what is going on today?" Raven asked, trying to control the annoyance in her tone.
The gray haired woman smiled. "Oh, sweetie, you must not have seen the paper this morning! Here, I'll get you a copy."
Soon Raven was holding it her hands, staring at the words in huge font: NEW, YOUNG LIBRARIAN STARTS TODAY. It was accompanied by a picture, in which, shockingly, she looked good.
"Great." She mumbled. That's why they had all been men in her line and why they had been giving her that look. "They're all here for a shot with the hot young librarian."
Elena chuckled. "Well, it's been a while since we've had one, dearie."
Because maybe/You're gonna be the one who saves me
"Good work today, Richard. Tomorrow we'll head into town for the farmer's market."
"Thanks, Mr. Cooper. Do you think the zucchini are ready or will we take them next week?"
Mr. Cooper leaned back in his chair. "Hmm… I think we had better wait until next week, let them grow a little more."
"Okay, sounds good." This was Robin's new life as a farm hand. Mr. Cooper was the farm owner, and had taken him in when Robin showed up out of nowhere on a rainy afternoon looking for a job. He was a caring man, and he and his wife had taken good care of Robin and watched over him like a son.
"You know, while we're in town tomorrow, can you stop by the library for me? I want you to pick up a book."
Robin was a little suspicious. "What's this about? You always run your own errands. Besides, you've never been much of reader."
"Well, maybe I want to start being a reader." Mr. Cooper defended himself, with a hint of a joke in his voice.
"Uh-huh, sure, and maybe the pigs out there are going to fly around the farm." Robin said, grinning.
"I don't know what you're talking-"
"Oh, Bill, have you seen the newspaper today?" Mrs. Cooper called from the sitting room. "There's a new librarian starting today down at the county library! My, she's pretty, too!"
Robin raised an eyebrow. "Oh, now I see how it is. You're trying to set me up."
"Well, you're a young feller, and you're out here in the middle of nowhere, and if a nice young lady happens to show up, well, why wouldn't I want you to meet her?"
"Fine. I'll go. But I'm not promising you anything." Robin said. Mr. Cooper really did mean well, but Robin only wanted Raven, and he knew that he might never be with her again.
~~~ The Next Day ~~~
They were finished unloading the truck at their stand and it was only 9:30. The market didn't officially open until 10, so Mr. Cooper turned to Robin.
"Now, will you go to the library for me? Pick me up… some book on farming." He waved Robin away.
"Sure, boss." Robin replied, smiling and shaking his head. He walked up a hill to the library, pushing on the glass door, a little bell announcing his arrival. He took a sideways glance at the counter on his way to the farm section. His heart jumped and his feet picked up, moving him even quicker to the farm books.
It was Raven. She was the new librarian. He couldn't let her see him. He glanced at her again, memorizing the details of her before quickly staring back at the shelves of books in front of him. Her hair was now black. He wasn't surprised that she had dyed it; purple hair did tend to stick out a little. It was long, too, and that did surprise him. She had always hated long hair, but now her hair was long, black, and trailing. It seemed sadder than her old short cut, which always seemed angled and sharp. Now it was withdrawn and sad, if a haircut could be those things.
She was still as beautiful as ever.
