-Sephiroth-
It is surprising how few differences there really are between Chaos and Vincent Valentine. I only had a moment to see Valentine conscious, and all I could see for a difference was eye color. Chaos possesses gold eyes whereas Valentine possesses red.
Of course...Chaos' true form is not even close to Valentine's. He is a demon. I think. Whatever he is, he is only vaguely human in his true form, possessing a head, torso, two arms, and two legs. He also has two bat-like wings, black, sprouting from his back, giving him the power of flight, and making some of the more difficult heists he and his partner made more understandable. His body is a hard red-black...armor, for lack of a better term. It is much like an insect carapace, making him impervious to most mundane attacks. Even I had trouble piercing him with Masamune. As for genitalia, if he has any, it is not shown. I do not care to follow that train of thought any further, so I turn to my kitchen, wincing as I pull at the bandages on my side.
Chaos scored several hits on me last night when he dropped out of Valentine's form. He was a lot faster than I expected, especially considering his size. And for some reason I cannot discern, Cure does not work well on the woulds he inflicted.
Resigned to having to do most of the healing the normal way, I shunt the pain to the back of my mind and walk into the kitchen. I cannot afford to let myself wallow in pain while I am unsure as to how violent Valentine may be when he wakes, or if the "ProtoMateria" will even continue to work. It was given to me by Doctor Crescent, but that does not mean it is trustworthy. If anything, it makes me far more nervous about it. I hate being their guinea pig, and I hate watching over their guinea pigs.
But, I cannot, in good conscience, hand Valentine/Chaos over to them, so I'm stuck. As such, I may as well focus on eating something. Deciding that with my aches and pains cooking would be too much hassle for what it is worth, I grab a bowl, my milk, and a container of cereal. I sit at my kitchen table, pop the lid off the cereal container, and swear as my doorbell rings. The doorman did not buzz me, so it is someone I've given permission to visit.
Leaving my breakfast on the table, I make my way to the door, opening it onto Tifa Lockhart, the last person I actually expected to see. She looks mildly annoyed, from what I can see of her face from under her cowboy hat. The hat dips over her eyes in that way that only makes the entire outfit she is wearing that much more appealing, which means she was eyed, and likely groped on her way here.
I am of the opinion that it is her own fault, though. Her feet are clad in knee-high cowboy boots, a darker brown than the short-so unfairly short-skirt and mini-vest that looks to be made of some animal's pelt. The shirt, if it can be called such as it barely covers her ample assets, is simply a white shirt, much like one I usually see her in, except that it appears to be from when she was much younger and...less endowed. Much less. I truly wonder if she lost control of "the twins," as she calls them, on her way here.
I step aside, letting her inside. I know why she's here, though I'm surprised she's heard of Chaos' capture so quickly. Closing the door behind her, I flip the lock, saying nothing. She'll talk first, telling me exactly where her mind is at. Although, with that get-up, she's looking for some serious information.
She silently follows me to the kitchen, sitting in the chair opposite mine. Unperturbed by her silence, I merely pour my cereal, milk, and begin eating. I get about three bites in before she leans over the table toward me, her eyes shining.
"I have heard you apprehended Chaos and Bakura last night."
"Your information is flawed." I comment, enjoying how her face sours. "Bakura escaped the Turks. I did, however, catch Chaos."
Her eyes brighten again. "Can I see him?"
"No."
"Sephiroth!" She whines. I just have another spoonful of cereal. She pulls her hat off, setting it on the table before removing her mini-jacket and speaking again. "Come on...You get to prove to your bosses that you aren't gay, but I don't get anything out of this arrangement."
"Oh, please, Tifa. We both know that's bullshit. Sure, I keep scrutiny off of me and my bed partners, but you know you get the better end of the deal. All the information you get out of me goes straight to AVALANCHE. Don't be coy about what we both know." I say, letting my spoon drop into my bowl. "Besides, I hardly ever touch you. Now, how about we drop the charade? My apartment isn't bugged, as I've shown you prior to this point, and I've no reason to rat you out."
Tifa frowns at me for a moment. "All right, fine. AVALANCHE has been trying to recruit Chaos and Bakura for awhile. If you will just let me see and talk to him-"
"No." The earnest face she had adopted while talking drops. "I know what you guys want with him, and I cannot allow that. I cannot hand you a weapon capable of destroying my job. We both know there is nowhere I could go without ShinRa."
"I know." Tifa sighs. "But I had to try."
"And I understand that." I sit back in my chair. "Besides, he is unconscious, and no longer Chaos." At her confused look, I shrug. "Don't ask specifics; I don't have them. Chaos is actually a demon or something living inside a man named Vincent Valentine. He had taken Valentine's form, and called himself Chaos."
"Huh." She stays quiet for a moment, thinking. "That's new. All right, then. I assume that's where you got the wounds that aren't healing." She motions to the bandages, and I nod. "I hear there's a girl, in the Sector 5 slums, who sells flowers. The rumor mill says she can heal things Cure materia can't. I'd look her up. See if it's true."
She stands, putting her hat and jacket back on. I watch, not too sad to see her leave. I'm waiting for Bakura to try busting Chaos out. It'll be less trouble if I'm alone when he does.
"I'll see myself out. Oh! One more thing you should know. Bakura has been seeing Seto ShinRa for awhile now. Exclusively." With that, she turns and leaves.
And, as she intended, I'm sure, I chew on that thought. Seto...Basically ignored by his father for his twin Rufus, Seto does whatever he pleases. That usually includes reading, and sparring with newer SOLDIER recruits. He's a damn good fighter, which is surprising, considering his father. But other than that, I don't know much about him. Rufus is much more in the spotlight, being the Vice-President training to take over the corporation.
I doubt he has anything to do with this, but it cannot hurt to have a chat. And since Seto disdains anyone without rank, or are, in his eyes, undeserving of their rank, I have to request this personally. I stand, walking into my living room after dropping my bowl in the sink and my milk in the fridge. On the footstool/coffee table, lays my phone, an innocuous little black piece of machinery, much like the one that led the Turks on a merry chase last night. It's a standard issue for SOLDIER and is made a lot tougher than it looks.
I hate it.
Every time it rings, I'm sent off to some remote area to "put down" whatever has gone wrong in ShinRa's eyes. And even though I know that without ShinRa I would have nothing, I still want that sometimes.
But I am too practical to give it all up so easily, so I sit down and grab my phone. Flipping it open, I scroll through the few contacts to find Tseng's name. I click, put it to my ear, and wait for the ringing to stop.
"Hello." Calm as always, Tseng doesn't sound the least bit disturbed by the hysterical laughing in the background. The laugh sounds familiar, but that is not a concern of mine. I never, ever want specifics on the Turks and their missions.
"I need to meet with Seto. Can you give me a hand?"
"Where?"
I grin as he forgoes asking why. "My apartment. I cannot leave Chaos/Valentine alone."
"All right. I will set it up. I will have Zack escort him. The only Turks he trusts are...busy."
"Thank you, Tseng. I owe you." Sephiroth hung up and settled back on the couch to await his visitor.
A/N: So...I've actually had this chapter written for quite some time. I don't know why I never posted it, and I'm very sorry. I do have the next chapter started, so with luck, I won't forget to post the finished thing. I think I forgot this was finished because I lost about 75% of it once, so...yeah. Anyway, sorry!
