When Elsa heard the news of her parents passing, she was devastating. It took everything in her power not to go to the funeral and grieve with Anna- her only family left. She cried and cried until there was nothing left in her but hoarse sobs.
She heard the chirps of birds outside her window on the nice summer day, and she felt like screaming at them all one by one. When she stomped to the window to shut the curtains, ice sprouted from her fingertips harshly. She grunted and swiped the dark shades in front of the pleasant day, leaving her room in darkness and sorrow. She collapsed right there by her window onto the floor, shaking.
If you lose someone (especially of this importance), you usually want sympathy or someone there with you. There was one person Elsa could think of, her name repeating over and over in her head. No, no, no.
There was someone else though- not a servant, but a childhood friend. One who couldn't be in Arendelle at the moment because of his duties someplace else… it was summer here, he wouldn't come anywhere near Elsa's broken city.
"Jack Frost…" she sobbed.
A bang caught Elsa by surprise. "Jack?" she whispered in excitement. She smiled weakly and opened the curtains. The light stung her eyes, but so did the discovery of no Jack.
"Elsa?" It was Anna at the door.
Elsa closed the curtains again and ran to the door. She pressed her hands on it and tried to cry as quietly as she could. Her knees gave in yet again and she sunk down. She pulled her knees to her chest and knew what Anna was going to say before she did:
"Do you wanna build a snow man?" she whimpered.
Elsa and Anna spent what felt like hours leaning against the door like that. Elsa wished she could throw the door open and comfort Anna and hold her and tell her everything was going to be alright, but she couldn't. She couldn't hurt Anna the way she did when they were kids.
When Anna got up to go to bed, Elsa figured it was a good time to sleep as well. The bright summer day had faded to night long past. Wind hit her window harshly, but Elsa didn't think much of it.
"Elsa, please open up," begged a familiar voice.
Without thinking, Elsa opened the window and caught her best friend in her arms. His hair was covered in snow and the cold breeze he unleashed on the city swooped in, but Elsa didn't care. Jack was here, Jack came!
His arms wrapped around her protectively, and Elsa sobbed into his shoulder, the strong tears all flooding back. He dropped his staff to hold onto her tighter, never wanting to let go. It hit the icy floor with a pang.
"How did you know?" she said into his chest.
Jack rubbed her back, "I was in Corona for the day, word spreads fast." He released her from his embrace and looked at her. He put his hands on her face tenderly, "Are you okay?" With the pad of his thumb, he gently wiped her tears.
Elsa shook her head in a daze. Jack looked very handsome tonight, besides the tear stains on his blue sweater. His bleach white locks blew in the wind behind him, the Man in the Moon (Jack had told her that story many times) shining bright behind his figure. "I'm so sorry, Elsa."
She nodded this time and looked down at her feet. Why was she so shy of him now? They've known each other for ages, best friends for a long time. Does Elsa… like him? No- it's the paranoia talking. No way.
Jack turned around and closed the window. Elsa rubbed her arm awkwardly. What now? She thought.
When he turned to face her, she was caught in the middle of a yawn. She rubbed her tear-stained cheeks and stumbled towards her frost-covered bed. Jack followed, and got in with her under the sheets without a word. He awkwardly wrapped his arm around her and whispered in her ear, "I'm sorry, all I can do is keep you cold."
Elsa turned on her side and faced him, "That's alright-" she yawned again and nuzzled into his chest, "The cold never bothered me anyway."
Jack chuckled and kissed her forehead. That was the only time that night Elsa got chills. "Good night."
Elsa couldn't even reply back before she drifted off to sleep, safe in his arms.
