-Who gave her up? - Hailey asked while she geared up for the operation to bust Jordyn Woods.
-Her new man. Shaun Holland. - Kim told her while they started to head towards their cars. - He's scared of ending like her last two men apparently.-
Busting Woods hadn't been easy. It had taken some heavy fire from both sides, but they had finally been able to get her. Kim and her had interviewed her for a final time before sending her to prison, and she had confessed that she had killed Michael because he wanted to get away with her and she had said no, so he was going to confess everything to Lil Bebe. And she had killed Lil Bebe out of the guilt for killing Michael. She had wanted to control the business from the start but not only she had gotten involved with two men, drug dealing were mostly handled by men
Women had it though, even in drugs businesses
-Good job Kim. -she told her colleague who smiled at her.
-Thanks. You too. - she said nodding while she got her gun from the boxes.- Hey, I saw some of Liv's pictures. She is having fun right? -
Kim and Olivia had always shared a good relationship, and Hailey was happy with it. Obviously Kim would be involved in Olivia's life while she grew up, and unlike some mothers, she preferred that the wife of her daughter's father and her daughter shared a bond.
-She is. -Hailey nodded, looking up at the hallway where Adam had shown up.
Kim looked back at him and headed towards the locker rooms in silence.
-Hey. You free for dinner tonight? We could talk. - he offered standing in the doorway.
She nodded, before saying.- That italian place near my house? -
-Cool.- he said before heading towards his desk to finish up the paperwork.
-You picked a public place so we wouldn't yell at each other? - Adam asked Hailey after the waiter had taken their orders.
She smiled, shaking her head. - I think we are past that. -
He nodded, taking a sip of his glass of water.- So, we thought we should talk. Do you have any idea where to start? -
-We are ready to be honest right? -she asked him, and he nodded in silence.- Good. I want to leave Liv out of this as much as we can, ok? -
-What do you mean? -
-You're an adult, I'm an adult. We both have the relationship with her that we want and can have ok? I'm not here to judge you as a father.-she explained him.
-Ok, I'm cool with that.-he agreed, thinking that it was best.
Hailey nodded, staying quiet while they waiter brought their drinks, a beer for Adam and a scotch for Hailey.
-You wanted me to come back to the unit, you even went through the trouble to go to Hank about this. -she started taking her glass in one of her hands.- Is this your way of trying to give something back? Something of what I lost when I left the unit? -
-I said you deserved this chance. But Antonio made the call.-Adam told her.- I know you left because I didn't make things easy for you with Kim and the wedding… It took me a while to see how selfish I'd been.-
Hailey took his words in, trying to come to terms with his words.- I thought you and Kim were in love. -she said in a low tone, her voice a little over a whisper.- That's what made me strong enough to leave, to know that at least you were happy with her. That one of us was happy.-
One of them happy, not the two of them. Adam noted her words before replying.- I thought she and I deserved another try. She offered a shelter when I was going crazy thinking about becoming a father. I wasn't ready Hailey. You know that. You saw it. -
-Yeah, I knew, but that didn't make it easy to see you run away from me to go to her. - she left Olivia out of the equation on purpose.
-I know. I'm sorry. - he said.
-Stop saying you're sorry. It's not helping. -Hailey shook her head, moving her blonde hair waves by doing it.
-Ok. I just want you to know that I… I'm sorry I didn't give us a chance back then… it would have meant that we could have been a more normal family. And I don't regret just because of Olivia, but because of you too.-he finally said.
Hailey nodded, looking up at the waiter who was bringing their food. They both thanked him, and Hailey looked back at him. Her blue eyes always managed to disarm him.
-Could we just have a normal dinner from now on? -she asked him, trying to smile slightly.
-We can. But this conversation is not over. -he clarified.
-It's not. But maybe we deserve one normal and nice dinner without a toddler driving us crazy right? -
-Humour is my strong suit, not yours.-he joked.
Hailey smiled nodding, while trying to keep memories at bay.
-Da-da. Da-da.- Olivia babbled while Hailey opened the door to show Adam on the other side. Father and daughter smiled when they saw each other and he picked her up on his arms when he could.
-Hey princess.- he greeted her while Olivia covered him in kissed on his face.- Hey Hales.- he told the mother of his daughter.
Hailey shook her head. - It's dinner time.-
-I know. I don't have to eat, I can just sit with you guys.. but I've been undercover for a week and..-
-Adam, you can have dinner with us. Just call before next time, ok? -she told him while she invited him in. - And isn't Kim waiting for you at home? -
-I don't know, I came straight here after I was done. - he said with Olivia still in his arms, while he took a seat at the kitchen table, his daughter on his lap.
Hailey was going to tell him to put Olivia on her high seat but at seeing the kid talking to her father in her own language, she couldn't break the moment after they had been so many days apart.- Here. - she told him putting a plate of spaghetti in front of him.- You're going to eat with Dada? - she asked Olivia, who turned her blue eyes towards her mother's, nodding quickly.
-Da-da.- she said.
-Ok. - she said putting her pink plate in front of her. They were going through a cave stage, where she was eating everything with her hands. The little girl grabbed some spaghetti to put in her mouth.
-You'll need to wash that shirt after that. - Hailey told him while he grabbed a fork to eat as well.
-It's ok. - he said after swallowing.- She seems she got bigger since I last saw her. - Olivia turned back to look at her father when he spoke, with her mouth full of pasta.
-She's growing by the minute. - Hailey said receiving a glare from her daughter. -At least you recognise when we are talking about you. -
-Ma-ma.- Olivia said. -
-Mama is eating and so should you. -Hailey told her eating some of her plate. Olivia imitated her putting some of it on her own mouth with her little fingers.-How did the operation go? -
-Good. I'm just glad is over. -he said grabbing the glass of water that was in front of him to take a sip.
Hailey nodded, knowing he wouldn't say more. That was the way with Intelligence. She smiled when she crossed a look with Olivia. - What, peanut? - she asked her.
-Ma-ma happy. - she said smiling too, showing her smile full of sauce.
Hailey laughed and so did Adam at seeing her. - Mama happy, Olivia happy.-she said.
-Da-da? -Liv asked him looking back at her father.
-Dada happy. - Adam told her, giving her a kiss on her forehead, and looking at Hailey before saying.-I love you. -he told his daughter.
-I love you too. -she said to her father, before looking back at her mother.
-Love you three.- Hailey completed the sentence knowing that they had taught her that when she was barely a baby. Adam and her had made a deal that even if they weren't together, Olivia would still grow up in a family. An unusual one, but a family at last.
Now sitting in front of the man who had hurt her the most but had also given her the most important thing for her, she wanted to make sure he had good intentions and that he was being honest.
-Shall we? - she asked before taking a bite of her food.
Adam nodded, smiling at her. At least they were trying.
