A/N: Going through this chapter there were a lot of things I had to change to make it match the story. I also added some stuff so this is not completely like the old version in case you've read it. I honestly don't remember what I was smoking when I wrote this chapter, no clue what so ever so I will do my best to tie things up. As for future chapters we'll just have to see how it goes. For now, enjoy this chapter and hopefully I will not let you down too much.
Dark City, Dark Hope

Case 4 – The Dark Side of the Moon
~ 1369 ~
"My love, we will always be together! No one will ever come between us."
The gentle whisper seemed to echo in the silence that surrounded them.
"My body, heart, soul and blood is yours eternally."
The blood that didn't pump any more was chilled by the night.
"I know it hurt but soon you will be fine. I found you after 400 years."
A hand stroked the hair laying over the empty eyes. He leaned forward and kissed the cold, blue lips even though they didn't respond to his. The shell that lay on the bed had once been human and just three hours ago very much alive.
"Why won't you answer me, my love." He touched a cold cheek. "I'm sorry but that was the only way. Don't be mad at me. I know but it was necessary."
The door slammed open and the man snapped around with a snarl, showing his fangs to the shocked humans that crammed in the door frame.
"Oh God." the priest gasped. "Save us from this perverse wickedness."
"The Devils work." another man with a hay fork exclaimed with mumblers in the background.
The hostile dark eyes turned soft as he turned to look at the dead woman beside him.
"We only wanted eternity."

"The police report that the recent string of unexplained murders could be done by the same perpetrator, as all victims are said to have been emptied from blood in a similar manner. The police advice all against going out alone-"
Sessy flipped to another channel before flipping of the TV with a sound of disgust for two reasons.
One; they hadn't been able to track the murderer from the recent series of deaths, which was rare. And second: there were nothing AT ALL interesting on the air. It was times like these that he was happy that they weren't paying for it since they had free TV thanks to one of their clients who worked in the industry.
A door to the left was slightly ajar and the sound of running water came out.
The older man cast a look at the door and the faint mist from the hot water which spilled out before he looked away. He shifted so his neck lay resting against the soft pillow, his hair pulled over his shoulder as his mind traveled over the last days... all right, week.
He was hungry.
Not so that he would lose himself to it, but there was a low feeling in his gut that he wasn't satisfied. He got hungry more often now than ever before. Like his abnormal nature was moving too fast and he couldn't keep up with it. Just like when he was a child.
It bothered him to not be able to know why this was happening.
A sound from the shower drew his attention again and his eyes lingered when they caught a shadow moving inside, a very naked shadow.
He turned his eyes and closed them. The murdered... those that fitted with the signs were...
The door opened and out came InuYasha. With a towel around his waist and another over his head. He didn't say a word but walked right to the kitchen and the fridge. He pulled out a milk carton and took a swing out of it.
The cold liquid swept down his throat and chilled him from the inside.
Sesshoumaru could only stare at the naked, moist body in the same room as him. His eyes traveled up over muscled legs and a towel covering a firm ass, up over a slender waist and back that still were stained with tiny drops of water. He could see the muscles moving as the other drank and just that made his insides tremble.
His eyes narrowed and he couldn't hear anything, he was transfixed by the body and he could taste on his tongue the essence of the other. He wouldn't be denied-
Sesshoumaru tore his eyes away.
"Find anything?" he asked with his eyes fixed on the other side of the room, sounding cool and collected.
"No. I asked around but no one has seen anything." InuYasha replied once he finished half the content of the milk. "It's like this one disappears into the shadows. But I think..."
"What?" Sessy looked over his shoulder with a questioningly look in his eyes.
"I feel like this have happened before." InuYasha didn't know if it was a shudder or a shiver that went down his spine but he felt goosebumps on his arms and neck. "I can't say when or where but there's a strange sense of déja vú."
He pondered it a moment before he turned around so they were facing each other over the backrest. "No matter. We will eventually find it. No need to rush things."
Inu gave his brother a smile. "You're right." he flinched like he was stung. "That's right."
Sesshoumaru gave him a bemused smile. "What?"
InuYasha went to a section of the many boxes and began to move things when he finally found what he was looking for. He came closer to his brother and handed it over to him. It was an old gramophone disk. Those weren't used any more but there were still ways to get them.
"I found this the other day and I know you like the singer."
Sesshoumaru read the label and found it very nostalgic. To bad their gramophone player wasn't playable anymore.
"Thank you." he said sincerely.

The streets were busy and school students walked in different directions depending on if they were on their way to school or ditching. They walked in groups and chatted like the recent events didn't concern them. Adults walked among them too, going about their lives. Going to work or some other affairs. The sky was a little dull but with the sun still making its appearance it showed to be a good start. Some birds were piking at something below a tree before taking off when some kindergarten children came to close.
On one of the benches spread out in the middle of the main street sat Sesshoumaru. He wore his hair pulled back in his regular tail, a cap, lose clothes that were your all-day common and a pair of sunglasses. Some people still turned to look at him but mostly he went unnoticed. While no one was aware of it he watched for anything out of the ordinary or if he sensed something that weren't right.
The crime scene or back alleys weren't the only place you could find a lingering ghost or some other entity. Pretty much every human would be surprised at what haunted the streets or what hunted them day and night.
His eyes followed a group of teenagers and then too a passing pair of girls that giggled when they saw him. A woman in heels to high for her walked by while talking in a cell phone. A man in brown suit and most likely to his ignorance a stain at the lower part of the back of his jacket. A teenager walked by with his mp3 booming into his ears, completely unaware of the stalker behind him. Two men in their late fifties walked by in what you would most likely call Hawaii shirts and talking about something hilarious. A gang of "hot" girls walked by with their deep tans and bleached hair that defied nature, trying to swoon the "cool" older men at a shop. Or the middle age man that looked after them with a lecherous glint in his eyes.
So many things they weren't aware of and still they went on with their lives.
He had seen many scenes of this kind, throughout the ages that he's lived he had watched as this scene slowly changed and he still stayed the same.
He could remember a time when he had been a part of this. But that was so long ago and it seemed like another world. He knew that he could never let any other know when he was born or they would say he was crazy and a liar. For there were no humans that could match him, except if you looked in the bible.
While most knew the most famous names from the book they failed to learn that many of the 'first' humans supposedly lived more than seven lifetimes longer compared to your average human today. But then again... if they did find out then he would become the center of of a witch hunt and he would rather crash and burn into hell before that happened again.
Humans loved to hunt down and kill what they couldn't understand or accept.
Besides... he had InuYasha to think about. If the church or any other fanatic learned their secrets they would most likely be burned alive as the devil's offspring.
A shadow fell over him and he looked up to see a handsome face looking down at him. He thought for a moment at first that maybe he knew this person but a quick rush through his memories told him he had never met this guy.
But there was another thing that was chillingly familiar.
The scent of blood.
The brown locks fell over a high forehead and his brown eyes seemed to see right through him.
"Is something wrong?" asked Sesshoumaru politely. He made it a point not to be rude the first time he met someone new, if they hadn't earned his wrath.
The stranger just looked at him without saying anything, like he was trying to find something.
OK. First time over. "What the fuck do you want?"
The stranger gave him a small smile and it sent shivers down his neck.
Sesshoumaru was about to give him a really coarse piece of his mind when his neck was caught simply in a cool hand and his lips stolen right in front of everyone. It was a quick kiss and over before it could be taken seriously but it still left Sesshoumaru stunned.
"I finally found you, my love." he gave the other man a full fledged smile before disappearing into the masses, leaving Sesshoumaru stunned and swearing darkly in his head.

"There it is."
"Don't let it get away."
"Kill it."
A branch snapped and booted feet stumbled over a large rock before taking of at the same speed. Red eyes pulsed in the darkness.
He could see a strange light ahead where he was supposed, promised, to rendezvous with his lover.
He broke through the tree line and what little blood was left in his body was drained at the same time his voice rose in a high pitched scream.
His lover was dancing under the stars, surrounded by people, burning in the flame of justice.
His human lover was being charred by the ruthless fire and there was nothing he could do now. He could only stand in that second it took for his eyes to grasp that the outstretched hands wasn't seeking salvation from death but was actually blindly looking for him.
Then the black body fell in a strange way to the ground, never to move again.

When Sesshoumaru walked into their apartment he felt torn. Half of him felt angry and whispered curses under his breath that could make a sea-worn sailor blush. The other half of him felt confused and strangely calm. It wasn't like it was his first time being kissed by someone other than InuYasha but it left him strangely nostalgic and wary.
It was still in the early so Inu wasn't back yet from searching his part of town.
To vent some of the anger building up inside him he kicked the wall, leaving a bent in it but it wasn't enough to crack the wood.
He walked over to the desk and sat down in the worn chair and spun around once before taking a half turn back and settling for looking out the window. His mind walked over again and again what had happened today.
He was no fool. He knew the look in the man's eyes even through his sunglasses. He would never miss a predator when he saw one. And the smell still lingered in his nose, the scent of blood but also another smell. Something more detectable but he wasn't sure why.
He let out a quiet sigh while laying his head back and just looked out without really seeing, he knew by heart what the scenery would offer and it wasn't what he was looking for. In fact, he wasn't sure what he was searching for any more.
The hair at the base of his neck pricked and he turned around in a second and his eyes fell on the same man from this morning standing in the middle of the room.
"What are you?" Sesshoumaru asked hostile.
The man chuckled with a hand over his mouth before he met his eyes. "Shouldn't it be how the hell did you get in here?"
"Not really?" Sesshoumaru raised his guard even more and was happy InuYasha wasn't home. "I lost the interest in that question long ago." his senses tingled. "All I want to know is what you are so I know how to kill you the quickest."
The man tilted his head to the side and gave him a look that spoke of hurt. "Come on, baby. I've searched for you for so long I almost lost hope of ever seeing you again. I missed you horribly."
"I don't know who you are and I would like to keep it that way." Sesshoumaru couldn't understand why his consciousness was making his gut twist like he was hurting them both with his words.
"I will protect you this time. Even though you can't remember, I'm sorry I failed to do it earlier, but I'm not the same as I was back then. The world isn't the same as before either. We can hide easier in this age and we can always be together."
In the blink of an eyes he was standing leaning over Sesshoumaru, pushing the chair back slightly with his weight. Sesshoumaru felt himself become nervous at their proximity. His cheeks felt hotter and his hands felt sweaty.
"I missed you, love. I missed your scent." he took a deep breath. "your spirit." he gazed into the others eyes. "your existence." his hands moved closer so they brushed against his cloths. "your kisses." he leaned forward and Sesshoumaru was surprised that he didn't even attempt to pull back.
Their lips met and lingered sweetly. They parted slightly before seeking each other out again, this time for a longer and more sensual kiss. It didn't feel strange any more, in fact... it felt right.
Their lips parted and their eyes looked into each other. Amber meeting blood red. The unknown man fell to his knees on the floor so he came between Sesshoumaru's parted legs. His hand rested on Sessy's thigh while the other cupped his face in a gentle touch. Even with the other sitting on the floor Sesshoumaru didn't have to bend far to reach the others mouth.
This time it wasn't sweet and innocent kisses; but hot, passionate and arousing kisses. As if a curtain had fallen over them and veiled them from the rest of the world they surrendered to each other, feeling each other where they could reach and almost starving for each other.
Somewhere in the heat Sesshoumaru was lifted from his chair and they landed on the desk, his shirt on the floor and the button of his jeans open. His hands pulled the other as close as he could and tasted his skin. He let out a groan as his throat was nibbled. Hushed words were being spoken in between wet kisses over his skin. He lifted his legs and wrapped them around the other man's waist.
Throwing his arm up over the edge he knocked over something and sent it flying. It made a big thud when it hit the floor and caused him to cast a look even if he didn't care what it was.
There on the floor lay the record InuYasha had given him, half out from it's cover.
It could have been the memories of receiving that gift or something similar, but his rational side was shocked back to reality just in time to feel the fangs on his neck.
His natural instincts kicked in and without thinking wrapped his arms around the other and together with his legs he held him as close and tight as he could while his hunger began to devour the monster in his arms.
At first the man was tense but then he began to go limp as he lost his strength.
Not before long he was to weak to do anything but whisper against Sesshoumaru's neck.
"I knew you were dangerous and that might have been what drew me to you. From the very beginning I knew you would be the death of me if we ever met again. Maybe I wanted to make a bet with myself." He let out a soft burst of air in what should be laughter. "I'm so tired of living."
"Did you lie when you said you looked for me... missed me?" his voice almost broke. "Was I even the one? The one you loved?"
The man in his arm sighed. "Sorry. I lied. I honestly know you aren't the one... nor your brother. I've lived over 1400 years and I can't take it any more. I've waited for her to be reborn but nearly 200 years since I last found and lost her, and I've lost what hope I held on to since that day."
"But this feeling? If I'm-"
"That's the gift of my race. To make our hunting easier. And just as easily you will forget me when I'm gone. I'm nothing but a wandering figure that leave nothing behind. She was the only exception." And that was the reason they were hunted. "That's why I know you are not the one no matter what your heart wants to tell you."
Sesshoumaru's arms loosened and with new strength turned so he could face the other man and with gentleness he kissed him.
With a last tender moment the vampire in his arms turned to dust and vanished without a trace as even the dust was gone before it landed.
Alone, Sesshoumaru sat in silence where he only moments earlier had been swept away.
"Rest in peace." he whispered to the departing spirit.

~ 1853 ~
A young boy, no older than 10 years, watched over his baby brother in a run down building. The youngest, looking about half his age, was very sleepy and kept dozing off against his shoulder while the other kept a watchful eye for anyone that might come close. Their bodies and hair was caked in so much dirty and grime, and clothes torn and stained with blood, filth, and numerous things that stank, that they looked like thrown away rag dolls.
Suddenly a man sat in front of him. He didn't know who this man was but at the same time he did. The stranger looked at the brothers with a weird look in his eyes.
They sat there for many minutes just staring at each other. The child's golden eyes never faltered and dared him to hurt them.
The stranger smiled in a closed lipped chuckle. "Do you want to leave? Want to come with me?"
Soon after the three of them left the old church behind. One a man with blood red eyes and two small children with black hair that was turning white. The moon looking down over the trio and bathed them in its pale light. Witnessing the beginning of the end.
Six months later they were left at a small nunnery and with no memories of the one who took them in and left them there. Only a letter saying they were angels sent from the lord to ward off evil.
It would be another 10 years before the brothers moved in to their apartment complex that would be their home and office.

InuYasha came home and the sound of a woman singing filled his ears. The sound was raspy now and then but the overall quality was good.
"Are you ok?" Inu asked when he came into the room, finding Sessy sitting by the desk and just listening.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
Inu looked at his elder brother when the song ended and only the sound of statics filled the room before the next song started. It was a guitar and an upbeat voice singing.
"Then why are you crying?"
Sesshoumaru sat there, smiling and painfully aware of the tears that fell from his eyes. They were hot and burned his eyes but he couldn't stop them.
"No reason."
InuYasha knew better than to push his luck when his brother was like this so he dropped his jacket on the table, walked around and sat down in the sofa. He simply looked at the other and said nothing. Silently giving his support.
Sesshoumaru looked at InuYasha and even with the joy he felt when seeing his other half it couldn't erase the bitter feelings that filled him.
Even as he smiled he could taste the bitterness in his mouth.
Even though he smiled it didn't stop the tears from falling.
And the worst part?
He didn't know why he was crying.
End Case 4!
