Meanwhile, inside an alleyway, the still glowing Spider-Man swung in and landed on the roof to the right side. This was the spot that the Web-Slinger chose to place his other belongings while he tested out his new lens, and after nearly missed it after inadvertently tapping into a strange glow that increased his speed. Upon arrival, Spider-Man quickly jumped from the rood to the left wall, and once he got close enough, threw his feet forward and allowed them to make contact with the surface of the wall. Moments later, Spider-Man used the wall itself as a boost to perform a backflip, which in the process, left a small crack. Finally, Spider-Man himself safely landed on his feet and near the right side of dumpster bin, which had a specially made 'web-cocoon' which contained his backpack, stuck to the side.
As he crouched down, Spider-Man took this moment to grab and pull off his mask, revealing the sweaty and concerned face of a now eighteen-year-old Peter Parker. He then placed his mask beside him for just a moment so he could look at his hands, which were still glowing with the blue energy, which soon fizzled out into nothing. Now more confused than ever, he took his right hand and used it to reach behind his head and felt two, deep, visible holes, which resembled bite marks from a small bug, in the back of his neck. He then looked back up at the wall, and more specifically, the small crack he made when he bounced off it and was astounded on how much the glow increased not just his speed, but his strength as well. "No way!"Peter said to himself in disbelief, still touching the bite marks. "That was caused by the spider bite…?"
…It too was just three years prior, and it was school field trip, and he and his class had just entered the large, circular room that was the genetics laboratory of the Oscorp, a company known for its pharmaceuticals and technology. Instead of a red and blue bodysuit, the younger Peter Parker wore a long-sleeved flannel overshirt with a T-Shirt with a picture of Albert Einstein sticking his tongue out underneath, blue jeans, white worn out sneakers and wearing glasses. He also had a very slender, almost weak frame, all which caused the captain of Midtown High's football team and his bully, Flash Thompson, to give him the nickname 'Puny Parker.' As his classmates followed the tour guide, who was an Asian woman in their mid-thirties, Peter looked around the room in complete awe as he saw numerous scientists in green jumpsuits, all working by either carefully mixing chemicals or a whiteboard writing and reviewing scientific formulas and equations. He turned to the right and looked up at the center of the room, and his eyes grew wide with amazement behind his glasses as he saw a large, generator-like machine with four screens at its top that showed cells. A machine which Peter already knew was the most advanced electron microscope on the eastern seaboard, and was a sight which made Peter grin with glee, for as he was such a passionate lover of science, seeing the world's most advanced equipment up close and personal made him feel like a kid in a candy store.
It wasn't until the tour guide stopped in front of a large, generator like machine with four screens at the top showing cells, did the class's teacher, a forty year old, red-headed Caucasian woman in somewhat casual but professional clothing, looked at her class to see who was accounted for and grew worried when she saw that Peter was missing. Frantically, she began looking for him, even standing up by her toes to get a better few, until finally, she noticed Peter looking at the microscope from a distance, and thus let out a sight filled with a mixture of relief and annoyance. "Mr. Parker!"
Hearing the teacher's irritable tone, Peter snapped back into reality and quickly turned to the teacher, inadvertently causing his glasses to fall halfway in the process. "Y-Yes, Ms. Carpenter," he nervously replied while fixing his glasses.
Once getting Peter's attention, Ms. Carpenter gave him a stern look as with her hands on her hips. "I'm glad to see that you're impressed with what goes on down here, but would you care to observe with the rest of the class?"
"Yes, ma'am," the sheepish Peter answered back, then hurried over to join the rest of his classmates, who all snickered and laughed on how he got himself scolded.
As Peter joined the group, he ended up standing next to two other Caucasian teenagers around his age who just so happened to be his closest and only friends. The first was a male with auburn hair and green eyes, was slightly taller than Peter and dressed in a blue, long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, complete with matching blue jeans and black shoes. Though he was popular around students and faculty, it was mostly due to the fact that his father was Norman Osborn, the billionaire who owned and operated Oscorp, and had given him the named Harold, but often told people that he preferred his nickname Harry, feeling that it made him feel less of a rich kid and made him feel more relatable.
While the other was a Caucasian girl, one who was very attractive with sky blue eyes, long red hair with two long bangs in front of her face dyed blond and dressed in a red long-sleeved shirt, black jeans with matching shoes. Like Harry, to whom she's currently dating, she was quite popular around the school, thanks to not just her beauty, but also her friendly personality and a bright mind, more specifically, a love for science which she shared with Peter and thus helped her in forming a long friendship with him. Her birth name was Madeline Jane Stacy, but to Peter, Harry, and the rest of her classmates, she went by 'MJ.'
And out of all the people in the school, there were only two people who saw Harry as a person and were his real friends, and one of whom was Peter, whom he gave a sly smirk once he arrived. "Nice of you to join us, 'Mr. Parker," Harry whispered in a snarky tone.
This comment only made Peter roll his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, I know, head in the clouds," Peter whispered back, annoyed, but once he looked back at the microscope, his smile soon returned. "But hey, can you blame me? This place is a scientist's paradise!"
Harry could only chuckle and shake his head at Peter's enthusiasm. For he, being the son of the man who owned the company, saw this lab and its equipment numerous times, mostly brought here by Norman Osborn himself to show him what he was going to be in charge of keeping up with the day he ran the company, and too his annoyance, was pressured into keeping up with his school work. Still, he was happy that at the very least, his best friend was having the time of his life. "Yeah, only you would think that, Pete."
It was here that MJ interjected. "He's not the only one," MJ told her boyfriend in a sassy tone. "You keep forgetting that you hang out with two science geeks, Harry."
Peter couldn't help but smile at MJ's retort, as it was one of those 'funny because it was true' responses. It was both her humor and mutual love for science that made Peter appreciate her company…but also secretly desired her to be something more than just a friend. Sadly though, he knew that she was that with Harry, and for his love and respect for both of them, Peter kept such feelings to himself and masked his sadness with a smile.
As for Harry, he turned his attention to MJ, sly smile still present. "Yeah, well, whenever you're around anything science related, you don't freeze like a deer in the headlights." Harry retorted, then pointed his right thumb at Peter. "Unlike somebody we know."
This resulted in Peter responding by giving Harry a cynical look. "You're very observant."
While she found their banters between her, Peter and Harry fun, she decided to be the one to put it to an end before Mrs. Carpenter scolded them again. "Well, let's get back to 'observing' this tour. So, I can get my science fix, you two can learn something, and we don't tick Mrs. Carpenter off."
And this was a suggestion that Peter and Harry, who knew that Mrs. Carpenter could give harsh punishments to students who tested her teacher's skin, agreed with, all which made them give MJ their answer in unison. "Noted." With that said, Peter and Harry joined Gwen and the rest of the class in listening to the tour guide's lecture on what scientific discoveries they made and how they were using them to help those who sick around the world.
However, unknown to everyone in the lab, be it the students or the scientists, it was on this day that they were about to receive a surprise that would turn their seemingly quiet and typical day into a hectic one. A surprise that was in the form of a small, red and blue spider, which had escaped from its cage just a few minutes before the class arrived and had long since created a web-bed next an air-vent that was right above the class itself. Aside from its unusual color scheme, this was no ordinary spider. It did not sit in its web, waiting for any flies to come in so it can feed on them. But rather it had a unique 'essence' inside its body. A strong life force that it is compelled to pass on to something else. Once it looked down, the spider's eyes noticed something that caught its attention. Or more accurately, someone.
That someone was Peter, who was listening hard to the tour guide's lecture about what they do in the lab, becoming more and more intrigued by the second.
With the preoccupied teen in its sights, the spider shoots a thin line out of its spinneret, and slowly began to move down towards the unsuspecting Peter. Moments later, it detached itself from its line, then fell and ended up right behind Peter's neck. Once felt that it was secure, the spider pulled its fangs back and drove them through Peter's flesh, where it injected its essence that was in the form of glowing venom, into young man's bloodstream.
For Peter, the pain from the bite was immense, like someone drove a hot poker behind his neck and into the top of his spine. As such, he let out a loud yelp, which caused his classmates to turn and look at him confused, and Harry and MJ to turn concerned.
As for the spider itself felt it's lifeforce dwindle after transferring its essence into Peter's body, and by the time Peter himself reached behind his head, it fell off his neck and landed on its back on the floor, where allowed its legs to curl up as it died, with its body changing to a lifeless black hue by the time Peter looked down and spotted the arachnid. Moments later, the spider's now dead body soon crumbled into dust.
Naturally, Peter was both shocked and confused on seeing this, but such feelings soon disappeared as he began to feel light-headed and saw the room spinning all around him.
Something which understandably concerned everyone present, but no more so than his best friend, Harry. "Pete, are you okay?" asked the worried Harry, with MJ following suit, also scared for Peter's well-being.
"I…I don't know…," replied the disoriented Peter, who just now started to feel hot and thus tugged at his collar. "I don't …feel so good…" Moments later, Peter dropped to the floor, causing nothing but pure panic. And the last thing that Peter saw was the entire class gathering around him before everything faded into black…
